Food was fantastic. So many choices on the menu. Service was OK.
Very disappointed in Shekz; first thing is that we had to wait 15 minutes just to get menus, they said they didn't have enough (the place was only half full), how could a restaurant not have enough menus for every seat?? Then once we got them we were being rushed to order!
Two separate waiters offered us bread on two occasions, which we accepted yet they never brought until we flagged our waited down and asked for it. That took about 20 minutes.
Our food finally arrives (after about an hour), and it was good, not great.
The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and they had a singer/guitarist offering nice music....that is until the owners friends came in and sat nearby; the owner was chatting very loudly with them and the curse words were coming out non-stop....did not help with the atmosphere and displayed a lack of class from the owner.
The wait staff was very nice and friendly, it wasn't their fault that the food was slow.
Unfortunately, the cons outweigh the pros at Shekz, therefore I will not be returning.
First time at this restaurant and last time. We were a party of 40, the service was so slow we got there at 7 and only started to eat at 9:45,. The waiter keept asking us what we had ordered at least 4 times. Some guests had order some drinks at the begining and toward the middle of the evening the waiter came around to ask who ordered what drinks, they had lost the drinks order. We finally walked out at midnight. When we went to pay, it took forever. The food was fair and not that warm. Very pricey, they do not accomidate to kids, finally got a plate of chicken knuggets 6 pieces and some fries for $22.
Ce fut ma première fois à ce restaurant et je n'y retournerais pas. Malheureusement, la nourriture n'avait pas de gout et pour ce que nous avons payé, c'était dispendieux. Le service par exemple était excellent!
The food was good, the staff attentive but I don't think they understand the concept of 'fusion' cuisine. This concept is blending ingredients from one region to the cuisine of another. Like: using lemon grass instead of lemon for the classic Italian rosemary and lemon chicken. It's not about having two entirely different menus with cuisines from different continents... Nonetheless, it was good but I'd only go if I'm in the neighbourhood, I wouldn't travel to go.
Nous avons été à ce restaurant suite d'un cadeau reçu de notre garçon...on a bien aimé, bonne bouffe et super bon service... :)
Before i start my review on Shekz, let me just say that i like the place..never really had a bad experience there, but there are some minor things that make me not want to go as often even if i gave them a 4-star rating.
In Defence of this Shekz, Many people have strongly disagreed with me about my feelings about this restaurant. (No, its nothing personal!)
Being a former east-ender, i have been at many private parties at Shekz and have dined there at least 10 times with friends and family already and so far, each time my dining experience has been good and the service amazing...
Ok, your probably thinking now "Whats his problem with Shekz then? For me, its the food, it can be un-consistant at times. The szechwuan plates though good can be very salty at times (but i know people who like that), the sushi is good but rolls are small and much too expensive compared to Sushi places across the city and the italian plates that ive eaten have been just normal and nothing to go crazy about.
Basically some plates are delicious and some are tasty but not exciting, i never know which one im getting so every plate can be a hit or just normal (but too their defense, its never been bad!) and the prices are not cheap for a szechwuan fusion restaurant.
Shekz as well is not located in the best of areas, forget scenery, your surrounded by garages, companies and Shekz is in a commercial building but inside the resto, the decor is very impressive and modern.
So to recap, Service is excellent, Decor is nice, it has a romantic setting, food is good, sushi is good and but can be better, and the prices are VERY expensive, sometimes too much for what you get, but most of what you get is good so you cant really complain that much!
Yes, i would admit this is one of my most confusing reviews ever...but listen, i do like Shekz. I just dont think about ever dining there unless we have an event to go too or if we have a couples night that my gf would organize!
On the record: My Gf really likes this restaurant!
That being said, i still recommend you going there and taste what they have to offer! Many of my personal friends love this place as do alot of the reviewers here so i might be in the minority right now but i still stick to my review!
Great ambiance, friendly staff, and the Food is phenomenal. Somewhere you can impress whom ever you are entertaining with their 5 star menu reasonably priced. What more could you ask for. Go experience the best kept secret in east end Montreal.
Food was great, very flavorful and big portions. Service was a little slow, on the upside it gave us ample time to digest in between. Definately a must try for people living in RDP.
Shekz will always have a special place in my heart because that's where I proposed to my wife and luckily she said "yes".
I felt like the waiter was genuinely happy for us.
He then went on to serve us a beautiful meal which consisted of sushi, General Tao chicken and homemade dessert.
A must-visit ! A true delight for RDP.
Le service ainsi que l'ambiance, incroyables. Parfait pour une soirée romantique, soirée de famille ou PARTY avec des amis.....les serveur sont excellents, et très amiables...fortement recommendé :)
If anyone has ever studied Marketing they know that there is a huge difference between a unsatisfied customer, a satisfied, a happy, and a delighted customer. This restaurant has found the recipe on how to delight their customers. From the consistent outstanding food to the impeccable service and friendly/family atmosphere I insist that you must try this restaurant. I have been a regular customer for 5-6 years now and will be a client for as long as it stays in business, which I hope is for a long time, even if I move to Mont-Tremblant! Forget what you know about those dirty holes with the singing trout hanging on the wall as decoration, for the same price go to Shekz. Congratulation to the owner and all the staff. To my friends that work there, keep up the good work. A+, 5*, two thumbs up whatever...bring your a** to Shekz my friends.
I live in RDP and I'll be brutally honest we have nothing!! We lack in restaurants...too many old man bars...too little commercial cafes...and no real amenities or services except for pharmacies and groceries stores. Shekz is probably the best restaurant in this little corner of Montreal...It has a nice atmosphere and a nice ambiance (for RDP). I had the General Tao chicken and although im not a big fan of the oversweet szechwuan style, the GT chicken was delish. It was decently priced...and close to home (for an eastender). Unless you have a friend in the east end that you haven't seen in eons...dont head on over from Kirkland just to try Shekz....but if you like the fusion craze...Italian and szechwuan is quite interesting!
