Review Summary

Reviews indicate Shali Restaurant serves authentic Persian cuisine with tender kebabs grilled over charcoal, including koobideh and joojeh, and meat dishes paired with fragrant saffron rice and fresh salads. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable, with a bring your own wine option that adds value. The atmosphere is warm and family friendly, and the staff are described as cordial, attentive, and welcoming, though service can be slower when the place is busy. Reservations are advised for weekend evenings due to high popularity. Desserts and starters receive praise such as barley soup, saffron ice cream, and baklava, and the overall dining experience is described as flavorful and comforting. A few reviews note occasional lapses in service or cleanliness, but the consensus is that Shali stands out as one of the best Persian restaurants in Montreal, especially for kebabs and the overall quality of food.

Honestly, compared to other restaurants, the food didn't taste that special. The koobideh was the only thing that tasted pretty good.
For dessert, we ordered baklava with tea. The tea was really fragrant & tasty, but the baklava was awful - like, so bad that I almost wanted to tell them we didn't want it anymore.
As for the service, the restroom was dirty, which is honestly surprising for an Iranian place. Also, there wasn't even a single napkin on the table, so you had to ask the staff for one.
Overall, I'd give it about a 3 out of 5.

An amazing authentic & wonderful Persian restaurant on des Sources blvd ❤?❤? We made reservations for my mother's birthday & upon entering the venue saw many families & friends enjoying the food of the restaurant 😇😇 The staff was super welcoming & answered all our questions about the food ! We started with complimentary Barley soup which was incredibly tasty ❤?❤? For the main dishes we opted for the BBQ Flame-Cooked Meats as my mom had the Tender Barbecue Chicken Thighs while I had the Tangy Chicken kebab (breast) & each meal came with saffron rice & salad with the BBQ Tomato. Each bite was a gourmet's delight & super delicious & our full compliments to the chef 🙏🙏 For dessert we shared a Baklava & it was just as amazing ❤?❤? Cannot wait to come back with the entire family & friends to this 10/10 venue & try other items in its excellent menu 😇😇 MORE UPDATES: Went with my friends & had wonderful lentil soup followed by very tasty & delicious chicken dishes ❤?❤? For dessert we all had the saffron ice cream & it was heaven on earth 😇😇

The service was excellent & the portions were generous. The food was tasty & well cooked - not too salty - though a little oily. The atmosphere is peaceful on weekends & parking is convenient. Overall, a very satisfying dining experience that I'd happily return to despite the slight greasiness.

The kebab was tasty & juicy. I just wish the chicken kebab had been saffron-flavored, but overall the quality of the kebabs was good, & I would recommend this restaurant

The food was really tasty & definitely worth the price(honestly better than many other Iranian restaurants in Montreal). The kebabs were very good, especially the kebab torsh, which was excellent. The rice was acceptable, though not perfect.
The service was generally fine, but water wasn't served initially, & when we asked for it, it took quite a long time to arrive. Overall, it's a good place for quality Iranian food, especially if you're there for the kebabs. Hope they keep their quality.

It was our first time there, & everything was excellent. The staff were very polite, friendly, & well-dressed. It was a cozy place for families, & they offered a variety of dishes, including Persian kebabs. Most of us ordered koobideh kebab, which was very soft & delicious. One of us ordered soltani kebab, & it was also incredibly tender. All the food was very tasty, but I didn't like the rice, & the tahdig (crispy rice) had become soft.

The waiter made an interesting suggestion: instead of a full portion of rice, she offered to serve half rice & half salad, which was a good idea. The soup was also very tasty. The prices were average - neither expensive nor cheap. There were enough parking spaces available. The restroom was clean. The dining area was also clean, the tables were tidy, & everything was neatly set.

I recommend that the restaurant owner provide napkins on the tables to make the setting a bit more elegant, & consider changing the rice. I strongly recommend visiting this place.
