Welcome to Shabu Shabu Kagayaki in the popular Montreal's Chinatown district. Here you will discover a traditional Japanese specialty known has Shabu Shabu The origins of Shabu Shabu cooking date back many years, where families gathered around a large hot pot for their evening meal. Shabu Shabu means splash-splash. The customers receive thin slices of raw meat and vegetables, which they cook quickly in a pot of boiling water. These are dipped in a sesame sauce or ponzu sauce (soy based sauce). After the meal, the remaining broth is used as a soup for noodle or rice. Today, the freshest meat and seafood available, delicious Japanese sauces and a bowl of rice is all that's needed for a classic Shabu Shabu meal and Kagayaki is the place to experience what Shabu Shabu is all about. Along with great food, Kagayaki offers a great friendly atmosphere, traditional decor and great fun whether you are with a group of friends, family or in couple. I'd had this place on my wishlist for a while, always wanting to try their sukiyaki hotpot, finally got the chance.
The toppings were fresh & well organized, & our waitress was super nice & attentive, helping us out the whole time. Unfortunately, the broth was extremely salty. I ended up pouring my entire glass of water into it just to try to balance it out, but it still didn't help much. I'm not sure if that was just an off day or their standard broth, but given the price of the set, I don't think it's worth a revisit.

Nous avons été plusieurs fois à Kagayaki & on commence à être déçu…les bouillons sont délicieux par contre les portions ont diminuées au courant des 5 dernières années surtout le plat de légumes mais le prix a augmenté énormément.

Japanese hot pot was awsome, we took it with wagu. AC was broken but food & service was great. They have Japanese sake.
Yuzu lemonade & mochi dessert was so good too!

Good food but very expensive given the customer does the cooking. You have to pay attention to the server when they tell you how long to cook things I the boiling broth. The AC was broken when we were there so it was very warm inside. But still a good experience. The server was very attentive.

Absolutely Fantastic!
Top friendly staff helping at all times & keeping a constant eye for the hot pots to be at ideal temperature. Their suggestions & explanations really made the difference. They took time to explain the differences & the ideal cooking time for each ingredient.
The menus for 2+ people are great to try different meats & seafood.
We found the price very reasonable for the quantity, quality & variety that it offers.
The set menu includes a lovely dessert.
Reservation can be recommended.
Most of the food is gluten-free (GF).
We look forward to visiting again when in the city.
