Sabaidee! Welcome to Sep Lai! We serve traditional Laotian food using many local ingredients to create unique and authentic dishes. As is the norm in Laos, all our dishes are made to be shared! Although you may find similarities with other Southeast Asian dishes such as Thai or Vietnamese dishes, Lao cuisine is a distinct cuisine with its own complex and exciting flavors. Full of fresh herbs, raw vegetables, flavorful meats and always accompanied by a basket of sticky rice, we are proud to share this cuisine with everyone, including vegans, vegetarians and those sensitive to gluten! We hope that the dishes of our parents and grandparents will inspire you with the same comfort and joy as they do us, and that you will exclaim: "Sep lai! It was delicious!"
Our Specialties
Spring rolls, Imperial rolls, Khao Poon soup, Papaya salad, Laap, Som Pak, Lao burger & Winter melon noodle soup.
Sep Lai is described as a warm, casual spot with vibrant Laotian flavors, where dishes arrive beautifully presented and many guests appreciate the BYOB option and a lively terrace for sharing plates with friends or family. Reviewers praise friendly, attentive service, varied options including vegan choices, and memorable dishes like soups and desserts, with several noting the tasting menu as a great way to explore the menu. While some meals are noted as salty or portions feel small for the price, most visits are described as delicious, affordable, and welcoming, making Sep Lai feel like a neighborhood gem worth returning to.
The space was very nice & the patio was pleasant in Mid May. My first time trying Laotian cuisine so I have nothing to compare it to. The food was solidly good, but not great. Everything could have used like 15% more flavor. Nothing was bad, just a little flat. The shrimp was cooked perfectly but could have used a bit more flavor. Same with the red curry soup. The temperature needs some work too. I got a pot of hot tea that was lukewarm. My soup was lukewarm, as was my shrimp. The food came very fast & service was excellent
Wow! What a little gem of a place.
Right by Charlevoix metro, it's super accessible either by public transit or by cycling from the nearby canal bike path.
We decided to order the tasting menu for 2, which had most of the items we wanted anyways. Plus, our server modified some items for similar ones that we preferred!
The spring rolls were incredibly fresh & tasty, & the peanut butter sauce was pure goodness. Same thing for the soup!
I'd say it's not the ideal place for vegetarians as there's a lot of fish & oyster sauce in most of the meals, but it's perfect for pescatarians.
They also use local mushrooms & shrimps from Gaspesie.
The mini crème brûlée was the perfect ending to the night.
They're a shared-table style of restaurant, but the tables are very big so you wouldn't feel much different than at regular tables that are close to each other.
I can't wait to come back for the terrasse!
Bonus points for it being a BYOW. :)

Cute resto right next to the Charlevoix metro, it looks smaller than it seems. There are different types of seating & in the summer you can sit outside. We tried different soup dishes, brochettes, meatballs. Tasty dishes ressembling other southern asia areas.

We were group of 11 so we had the tasting menu. Service was quite good. The food was very tasty, although the warm dishes, especially the Nem Khao, were very salty. The soup was amazing.

I was really excited to try Sep Lai for my first taste of Laotian food-& while the food itself was delicious, the overall experience left a lot to be desired.
We waited over an hour to place our order, even after telling the waitress multiple times that we were ready. When the food finally started arriving, it came in waves-so people at our table were eating at totally different times. Some were still waiting while others had already finished, which made things pretty awkward.
I had the dried meat with a super tasty sauce, the chicken spring roll, & the soup. All of it was genuinely delicious, & I was very happily surprised.
The biggest downside: we were seated on the back terrace, right next to a pile of garbage that smelled strongly of dead fish & cat litter. It was disgusting. We had to step away several times because the stench was unbearable. That really ruined the vibe.
Food was great-but bad service & a gross setting made it hard to enjoy.
They have a very cute yard. We didn't sit in the yard because it was supposed to rain but we checked it out after. It was really cute. The food was good. I liked the soup with meat & noodle better (the non creamy one). The beef skewer was good too. Not a big fan of the steam sticky rice tho. Overall we had a good time there!
Food is spectacular & great sized portions! So tasty!! Our table tried about 8 different things & i can't even tell you which was the best because they were all 10/10!!
The coconut red curry soup is so unbelievably delicious & hearty & the crispy chicken wings are so fresh & flavourful & huge!!
The sticky rice even being as simple as it is was so delicious!
💯 will be back & often!
Can't wait to sit on the patio in the back!!!

If you happen to be near Charlevoix metro station in cool weather, going to Sep Lai restaurant & having hot soup will be your best decision. I will definitely come back here again! Thank you:)
What a lovely find. The food, service, ambiance & experience all together was fantastic. The soup, chicken wings mango salad were all exceptional. Will be back for sure.
Excellent Laotian food! They have a good mix of plates to share & individual entrées, & Mains. The staff consistently have good recommendations. I was apprehensive about the laap but it was great. The soup is amazing. I highly recommend. It's BYOW & they'll bring out an ice bucket if you have white wine.
Excellent dining atmosphere, the food was tasty, & the desserts were really good. However, the portion size was very small. I ordered an appetizer (soup), a main dish (meat), & a dessert (crème brûlée), spending over $50 & still felt very hungry. Service was slow. We waited for a long time. The chair wasn't that comfortable. Overall, great food, but too expensive for what they offer. Don't think I will be back. I think this place is only suitable for people who has small appetite & who don't know much about Southeast Asian/Laotian food. It's pretty Westernized food.
