Sabaidee! Welcome to Sep Lai! We serve traditional Laotian food using many local ingredients to create unique and authentic dishes. As is the norm in Laos, all our dishes are made to be shared! Although you may find similarities with other Southeast Asian dishes such as Thai or Vietnamese dishes, Lao cuisine is a distinct cuisine with its own complex and exciting flavors. Full of fresh herbs, raw vegetables, flavorful meats and always accompanied by a basket of sticky rice, we are proud to share this cuisine with everyone, including vegans, vegetarians and those sensitive to gluten! We hope that the dishes of our parents and grandparents will inspire you with the same comfort and joy as they do us, and that you will exclaim: "Sep lai! It was delicious!"

Sep Lai is widely celebrated as a cozy, welcoming neighbourhood gem conveniently located near the Charlevoix metro, known for its authentic Laotian cuisine and delightful atmosphere. Many visitors highlight the fresh, flavourful sharing plates, particularly the tasting menu, papaya salad, and signature soups, along with excellent vegan and gluten-free options that cater to various dietary needs. The charming backyard terrace serves as a standout feature for summer dining, offering a peaceful and beautiful setting. While experiences regarding service and seasoning occasionally vary, the majority of guests appreciate the friendly, attentive staff and the added value of the bring-your-own-wine policy, making it a frequently recommended spot for dates, group gatherings, and family meals.
They have tons of vegan options well indicated & some items can be made vegan on demand. Everytime they use fish sauce or other things like that, they indicate it. So very friendly for different diets & allergies. The food was sooo good, portions are perfect & prices are pretty fair. So all in all I very much enjoyed my experience. & the terrace in the back is very pretty & cozy, I warmly recommend trying Sep Lai (went with my friend from Laos, she liked it too !!)
Great little spot in Pointe-Saint-Charles. I came here with some friends in late summer which is a good time to come as they have a quaint outdoor area in the back. We ordered about 10 different dishes & pretty much every one was excellent. We particularly loved the crispy chicken skins, pork skewers & fresh mango salad (medium spicy). Family style (sharing a bunch of dishes) is definitely the best way to experience this restaurant, though I definitely did wish I had a few plates all to myself. The food felt very authentic, though I've never been to Laos. The waitress was very helpful & friendly & the service was just right. Love the BYOB/W aspect as well of course, & they also serve mocktails if that's your thing. Easily recommended, would definitely return.
What an amazing experience! At first I wasn't sure what to eat since I don't like fish sauce, but then I found out they can make most of the dishes without it upon request! Many of the dishes can be made vegan as well. The terasse is cozy & magical, & the food is so fresh & flavourful! This has quickly become one of my favourite restaurants. Highly recommend! ❤?
Honestly I really want to like it so badly, I even went second time & ordered completely different dishes. But everything is great except the food. It's overly salty, we had to rinse the vegetables in order to be able to eat it.
The flavour is flat, we tasted more of the fish paste & saltiness than the mix of flavours that were described in the menu. Perhaps that's how Lao food is like & we might have the wrong expectation.
Unfortunately would not recommend this restaurant for food flavour.
