When it hits it hits. I don't know what it is but the inconsistency is what takes it away from me. Over the decades this has been an iconic place to visit with friends or anyone travelling to the city you would say go here or across to Main's but Maine is now closed ... I prefer the take out section rather than the sit in If you're lucky then you'll get one hot & really tasty .. if you're not so lucky it'll still be good . Katz's deli in NYC & Schwartz's in Montreal are both amazing for pastrami & smoked meat So if you enjoy meat stop by & make sure stop by next door at Coco Rico & get that dark meat chicken sandwich with extra hot sauce & peppers You're welcomeView more

This place is an old time deli with delicious smoked meat. The chicken & steak was good as well. I was nervous about trying the smoke meat. But is was so good & the service was good. We call it pastrami in NYC but apart from the different name the smoke meats at Schwartz's is amazing. & you can get it with poutine! Schwartz's always has a line but it moves fast & is worth the wait. Love the classic diner atmosphere & no frills service. Enjoy sitting with strangers who share the common interest of delicious cured meats. Along with the smoked meats get half sour pickles, cole slaw & poutine. Must visit in Montreal.View more

This is a place that you must attend if you are in Montreal. The service, staff & the atmosphere were all top notch excellent! The portions of food were amazing & this was the best smoked meat I had ever had. If you go, the dill pickle & the coleslaw & a Cott Cherry Cola is a must. I cannot wait to go back. I came to Schwartz's Deli - Sandwiches - Steaks for lunch a while ago & tried their Smoked Meat Sandwich. It was delicious. The smoked meat was amazing, there was a good portion of food, & it was excellent value. Another must try place in Montreal & I'd give it 9/10View more

I have no idea what happened to this place but damn it's nowhere near as good as it used to be. The meat was dry, unflavoured & overall disappointing. I remember back in the day thinking this was the best smoked meat sandwich I've ever had but it barely passes as a good sandwich anymore Wait. That's the exact review someone just posted. I went there & I can concur 100% how true that person's review was. On top of that the staff were so darn grumpy today. The cashier was nice but the guys taking the order & prepping the sandwiches were just so grumpy. I got 4 sandwiches & a frozen pack of 10 slices of deli meat & it was just under $100. Wow! But just refer to the first paragraph. I just cut & pasted a previous reviewers comments because it was so true! I couldn't have stated it any different or any different.View more

A local favorite & delicious smoked meat options. A must try if you're visiting Montreal. Getting a seat is almost winning a lottery. But takeout orders are served quickly. Took some medium-fat meat. It was dryer than what I would have liked. Thing is, if I had taken fatty only, it would have been too much for me. Prepare to pay, unlike other smoked meat places, the plates do not include fries, coleslaw, pickle nor a drink (pop). All those are extras.View more

You come for the experience- not to sit, chat & stay for a meal with friends. There is usually a line up from what I gather; we waited about 10 minutes before being seated. Seats are close quartered so you are likely sitting next to people you don't know- everyone keeps to themselves & comes to eat their food & leave so I didn't see an issue with this as it is apart of the "Schwart'z experience." My partner has always raved about Schwart'z as his family & him always go when they come to Montreal, this was my first time coming here & his hype lived up to the standards. We ordered 2 smoked meat sandwiches on rye with pickles on the side; DELICIOUS. My partner says they taste how he remembers them, as it's been a while since he had gone. You can tell when the orders go out as the place goes QUIET from everyone enjoying their food. Big fan & will definitely be back the next time I'm in Montreal!View more

This restaurant does two things right, sort of! One: Great marketing for a really lousy, nasty restaurant. Two: Speedy service but that's because the restaurant is treated like a production line.
We arrived at 11:40 in the morning & there was no line up. Upon entering we immediately noticed that it was dirty & cramped. In fact, so cramped we were seated with strangers & required to share condiments. This is the norm & not exceptional.
The waiter who informed us there were no combos, although they are clearly on the menu, was rushed, inattentive, unhelpful & definitely lacking charm. Our order was taken almost immediately. My fries & my husband's poutine came first. About five minutes later came our smoked meat sandwiches by which time our fries were cold. The fries & poutine were both lacking seasoning. The gravy on the poutine was thick, cold & bland. The smoked meat sandwiches were incredibly dry on stale bread & very little mustard. The meat fell apart not because it was tender but because it was brittle. The best thing we had were the soft drinks & that's probably because they came in a can otherwise fountain soft drinks would probably have been a disaster as well. They were also very necessary in order to wash those dry sandwiches down our throats.
Our bill was handed to us while we were still mid-meal. We paid our $50.00 & were out by 12:00 (20 minutes total) by which point there was a line up outside.
This restaurant is severely overrated. It is not only the worst smoked meat I've ever eaten, it is the worst restaurant at which I've ever eaten period. What kind of icon & institution is that? You can literally get better smoked meat anywhere, perhaps even in a dumpster. Go anywhere else!

On se présente, on s'assoie où l'on peut à une table qu'on partage avec d'autres clients.
L'endroit est un peu crasseux, mais on ne s'en fait pas avec ça, tout ce qu'on veut, c'est un bon smoked meat!
L'ambiance & le personnel sont sympas à leur façon! :)
Le sandwich est servi sans fla fla.
La viande est d'une tendreté & d'une saveur exquise & unique.
Juste à y repenser, j'en ai l'eau à la bouche!

Ceux qui visitent Montréal ne devront pas manquer cette institution du smoked-meat nord-américain. Schwartz's Deli est un petit endroit devant lequel se tient traditionnellement une queue venue goûter à ses sandwichs légendaires. Heureusement pour moi, il y avait peu de personnes à ce moment-là.
En général, c'est pas terrible mais moins bon que ce que je pensais.
Le service est rapide mais assez ordinaire. Ils devraient ajouter de l'air conditionnée car il peut faire chaud quand le temps est humide. Les sandwichs sont bons, quoique pas les meilleurs que j'ai goûtés. J'aurais préféré la viande un peu moins sèche & le prix est un peu plus cher mais pour les curieux, ça en vaut la peine.

Ce resto est un attrape touristes. Il est aussi très cher pour la quantité de viande servie.
Si vous commandez pour emporter, ne vous laissez pas avoir lorsque vous payez, ne donnez pas de pourboire, ce n'est pas du tout necessaire.
Le personnel n'est pas chaleureux. Vous commandez, & sortez.
Il y a d'autres très bon resto à Montréal qui servent aussi du smoked meat; La Main, Pete's.
This place is a tourist trap. It is very expensive for the quantity served.
If you order to go, do not leave a tip.
The employees are not too friendly, you eat, & get out.
