But I wonder what's with Montreal's obsession with oily blackened french fries? Doesn't everybody understand that 1) The best fries are the golden yellow colored fries & 2) the reason they are soaked black with oil is because the oil is overused & fries taste worse because of that?View more
The worst smoked meat sandwich I've ever had in Montreal. Dry, crumbly overly salty meat, soggy pickle, weird cole slaw, greasy fries . Just horrible. Three servings cost over $80. Not what it used to be. Go to the Platesu.
Doesn't really need my review, but on the other hand, the sandwich today was delicious, melt in your mouth. Generous pickle order & great fries. We went during the off hours, & weren't rushed.View more
This was hands down one of the best Montreal-style sandwiches & poutines I've ever had! The flavours were incredible, with the sandwich perfectly stacked with tender, flavourful meat, & the poutine had just the right balance of crispy fries, rich gravy, & gooey cheese curds. The place was worth the wait in line, as the vibrant, bustling atmosphere added to the experience. While the prices were slightly higher, the quality & taste made it worth it. It's a spot I'd gladly return to for a memorable meal.View more
Excellent Smoked Meat. However unseasoned fries & Questionable Poutine. Remember the Deli has 2 lines one for dine in & another for take out. Be sure which line you are standing in.View more
Schwartz's in Montreal is the ultimate destination for smoked meat lovers. Their legendary sandwich is a must-try, packed with juicy, flavorful meat & a touch of mustard. Fast service, nostalgic vibes, & unforgettable food make this spot a classic. Full Review: Schwartz's delivers a dining experience that's as rich in history as it is in flavor. The cramped seating, where you might share a table with strangers, adds to the charm of this old-school deli. The walls are lined with photos of famous patrons & newspaper clippings, giving the place a lively & nostalgic atmosphere. The menu keeps it simple, focusing on their iconic Montreal smoked meat. The sandwich is a masterpiece-piled high with tender, flavorful meat & just the right amount of mustard. It pairs perfectly with a pickle, & if you're dining with a companion, sharing an order of fries & coleslaw is more than satisfying. Service is impressively quick, even during peak hours, & the staff are casual & friendly, making you feel right at home. The deli embodies a time when decor took a backseat to exceptional food, & Schwartz's proves that great taste never goes out of style. If you've never been, make Schwartz's your next foodie destination. It's an experience you won't forget.View more
We ate our way through Montreal this weekend & if I can do any repeats I would choose this place every time! The smoked meat was meltingggg in my mouth with juice & flavour! The poutine was THE best we had!!! The gravy was THICC & the fries were a perfect crisp.. topped with more smoked meat & curds, this was worth the line up & every pothole!View more
I came here because a friend recommended Schwartz's Deli & their famous smoked meat sandwich. I was lucky to get a seat at the „bar" with a good view on the meat. The guy behind the counter was really friendly, taking the time to introduce all the options they have, & what the famous specialities are. I went for the smoked meat sandwich, with a portion of fries. My meal came really quickly, & I must say: it was sensational! The sandwich was so packed with meat, that it was impossible to eat it with my hands. I went for fork & knife. The delicious meat with mustard & some bread was the perfect combination. Not dry, not super moist, but exactly at the right point. The fries were crispy, & really the cherry on the top. I took a Canada Dry out of the glas bottle with it - perfect really. A glas-bottled Canada Dry. As simple as that. Prices are relatively high if you order all that, but it's worth every penny in my opinion. Outstanding experience, great vibe, sensational food!View more
Had to try it wouldn't be back, waited in line 45 minutes to get inside, We were very disappointed in the food & the coleslaw vinegary almost tasted like sauerkraut, was the worst the French fries were not cooked enough & the meat was extremely fatty.View more
French fries were not good. Meat (steak) was fantastic.View more
Finally made it here. Ate in at the take out side. 3x water, 3x cherry colas, 2x sandwiches & a fries total with tax $61.98! The sandwiches were great. Just didn't seem to be priced right for the size at $14.50! Canned cherry cola was $3.50 each. Very pricey for the experience & taste. I did love the sandwiches just didn't feel the prices were justified. (July 28 visit)View more
Smoked beef sandwich was awesome with reasonable price Fries was not good One of the staff was very rudeView more
Roast beef sandwich is highly recommended! My American rueben lovers should try a version of reuben sandwich with white bread instead of rye without sourkraut & thousand islands but with mustard 😋 Fries could be better.View more
The smoked meat sandwich was fantastic, with meat that melts in your mouth-highly recommend! However, the Schwartz poutine was disappointing. Despite the delicious gravy, it had very little smoked meat, & the fries were burnt & stale. I wouldn't recommend it. The sitting area is so limited that there were about 30 people outside under the scorching sun waiting to be seated, while there's not much merit in sitting in the dining area anyway. The takeout side on the other hand, was well-managed & the line was almost non existent. I would recommend choosing takeout instead.View more
First time here & we went to fall in line, luckily a guy said there was available seats at the bar area for two, & we were seated immediately. I gotta say, their smoked meat sandwich is very good! Fries was crispy & just got out of the fryer. Service wise, the guy in front of the counter was kind & welcoming. In terms of seating it is hard for a family or a large group of people to dine in. For two people, usually just go for the bar area.View more
Long line. But worth the wait. Had a nice steak & fries there.View more
Smoked meat is tender & tasty. Pickles are good, & black cherry cola is delicious. Fries are very average.View more
Just ok, it is a good sandwich yes, but definitely it is overrated, for $20 you should get some fries too.View more
A gem! We opted to share the large platter (~$24) & it came with the bread shown, we could assemble our own sandwiches & apply as much mustard as our heart desired. $2.50 per pickle & I recommend slicing it up for your sandwiches. Yum! We ordered medium cut (not too fatty) The style of dining is communal, there are 6 person tables that they seat mixed groups (in our case, 3 pairs of strangers) they are full at all times & do this to run efficiently, if you come in solo I noticed you were sent to the high top to sit without much wait in the queue. Notice the plate of fries in the top right corner of the photo? That was our table mates food, so it's cozy & tight, not a place to be able to privately chat, but more so a place to strike up a simple conversation with fellow hungry table mates. One of them told us about the Cotts black cherry pop as a must try, & it was very sweet but did cut the fat of the meat. Poutine fried done just right. Would return & recommend. They have a take out storefront next door also.View more

Stopped by on a Friday night, there was a line out the door but they move really quickly, especially if you opt to sit at the bar. The menu is pretty straight forward smoke meat. Got the smoke meat sandwich fries & a pickles & it was great. The protein was tender & moist, & the portions are satisfying.View more
Took some medium-fat meat. It was dryer than what I would have liked. Thing is, if I had taken fatty only, it would have been too much for me. Prepare to pay, unlike other smoked meat places, the plates do not include fries, coleslaw, pickle nor a drink (pop). All those are extras.View more
This restaurant does two things right, sort of! One: Great marketing for a really lousy, nasty restaurant. Two: Speedy service but that's because the restaurant is treated like a production line.
We arrived at 11:40 in the morning & there was no line up. Upon entering we immediately noticed that it was dirty & cramped. In fact, so cramped we were seated with strangers & required to share condiments. This is the norm & not exceptional.
The waiter who informed us there were no combos, although they are clearly on the menu, was rushed, inattentive, unhelpful & definitely lacking charm. Our order was taken almost immediately. My fries & my husband's poutine came first. About five minutes later came our smoked meat sandwiches by which time our fries were cold. The fries & poutine were both lacking seasoning. The gravy on the poutine was thick, cold & bland. The smoked meat sandwiches were incredibly dry on stale bread & very little mustard. The meat fell apart not because it was tender but because it was brittle. The best thing we had were the soft drinks & that's probably because they came in a can otherwise fountain soft drinks would probably have been a disaster as well. They were also very necessary in order to wash those dry sandwiches down our throats.
Our bill was handed to us while we were still mid-meal. We paid our $50.00 & were out by 12:00 (20 minutes total) by which point there was a line up outside.
This restaurant is severely overrated. It is not only the worst smoked meat I've ever eaten, it is the worst restaurant at which I've ever eaten period. What kind of icon & institution is that? You can literally get better smoked meat anywhere, perhaps even in a dumpster. Go anywhere else!
