Display Allsmoked meat(204) sandwich(173) poutine(51) deli(50) sandwiche(49) pickle(39) fries(30) schwartz's(29) viande(29)The worst smoked meat sandwich I've ever had in Montreal. Dry, crumbly overly salty meat, soggy pickle, weird cole slaw, greasy fries . Just horrible. Three servings cost over $80. Not what it used to be. Go to the Platesu.
Oh my gosh! It was a great experience! Like a travel to the old days
Highly recommend! It worth the time spending in the line, don't forget to get the pickles 🥒😜View more
Là place pour le goût authentique de Smoked meat !! Une institution montréalaise qui se démarque par ses délicieux classiques (Smoked meat sandwich & pickle pour moi)View more
Schwartz's Deli is a true Montreal institution & an essential stop for anyone visiting the city. Nestled in the heart of the Plateau, the deli is surrounded by eclectic shops & fashionable boutiques, making it a vibrant part of the neighborhood. Its laid-back, communal vibe has long been a favorite for both locals & visitors, no matter the season, offering a one-of-a-kind experience every time.
The smoked meat sandwich, paired with a pickle & a black cherry soda, is an absolute must-try-it's easily one of the best in town. During our visit, we were lucky to have an excellent server, she was extremely attentive & friendly. Though the place was bustling, there's a welcoming atmosphere where you can easily share a table & strike up conversations with fellow diners.View more
It's a city staple for a reason. Give it a try. Don't forget to add an order of pickles.View more
Great sandwiches.. just NEVER order it on UberEats. Your only options are medium. It doesn't come with the damn pickle either. In person 5/5 On Uber 1/5View more
Doesn't really need my review, but on the other hand, the sandwich today was delicious, melt in your mouth. Generous pickle order & great fries. We went during the off hours, & weren't rushed.View more
The best of the best for smoked meat & Cole slaw & Pickle & Black Cherry Cola!View more
I can't recommend this place, but did not have the heart to tell my server I didn't like the smoked meat sandwich. It's obvious the staff pride themselves in their work, but the sandwich & overall experience just wasn't good. The sandwich was soooo fatty, & not caramelized fatty or rendered fatty. Just gross looking fat. The mustard was just cheap yellow mustard. The poutine was decent & the best part of the meal. The pickles were standard, but I thought it was silly to receive just two pickles for that price. They should just embed the cost in the price of the sandwich so customers have something for "free." There was food underneath our table & the place had a weird smell, so I feel like it's not the cleanest. If you are familiar with other famous delis that sell coveted smoked meat sandwiches, just know that this place doesn't compare at all & will probably disappoint you.View more
Schwartz's in Montreal is the ultimate destination for smoked meat lovers. Their legendary sandwich is a must-try, packed with juicy, flavorful meat & a touch of mustard. Fast service, nostalgic vibes, & unforgettable food make this spot a classic. Full Review: Schwartz's delivers a dining experience that's as rich in history as it is in flavor. The cramped seating, where you might share a table with strangers, adds to the charm of this old-school deli. The walls are lined with photos of famous patrons & newspaper clippings, giving the place a lively & nostalgic atmosphere. The menu keeps it simple, focusing on their iconic Montreal smoked meat. The sandwich is a masterpiece-piled high with tender, flavorful meat & just the right amount of mustard. It pairs perfectly with a pickle, & if you're dining with a companion, sharing an order of fries & coleslaw is more than satisfying. Service is impressively quick, even during peak hours, & the staff are casual & friendly, making you feel right at home. The deli embodies a time when decor took a backseat to exceptional food, & Schwartz's proves that great taste never goes out of style. If you've never been, make Schwartz's your next foodie destination. It's an experience you won't forget.View more
A must eat in Montreal! I come back to Montreal just for this 🤩 Their smoked meat sandwich & dill pickles are so good.View more
Far be it from me to bad mouth an institution but here goes: I'm sorry to say it but the Smoked Meat sandwich is too dry. There is the lightest schmear of mustard on it, but the bread absorbs it entirely. The meat IS tender, credit where credit is due. It falls apart in your mouth but it is not what I would call juicy. But the sandwich was small but sufficient. Additionally, I personally, didn't particularly like the pickles, & found them rubbery. Also, the macaroni salad is the pretty standard fare from any deli anywhere (meaning, if you were expecting any novelty on that front, I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you, but prepare to be disappointed). Unfortunately, the overall the experience was lackluster. If there were fixins I could have added to the sandwich ameliorate the dryness, I was unaware. All that said, the service is good & the employees were pleasant. Oh yeah, & the cherry soda is really pretty good. The last thing I'll say (particularly for any New Yorkers reading): comparisons to a certain deli are overstated. Definitely enjoy (or not) this Montreal fixture on its own merits.View more
Exactly what I needed walking through the city on jetleg upon arrival. Meat is amazing. Vibe very welcoming & traditional. Take their black cherries softdrink, add a pickle 🥒. You won't be disappointed...View more
For those confused about this place, I'll shed some light. First, why it's popular & second the quality of the food, & why people get these quite different things mixed up. Popularity: The smoked meat sandwich is a big deal because it's a LOT of meat, which makes the price of 14.50 + tax "good, not great" in my books. This, along with the long line (which can be bypassed for takeout) & "no frills" atmosphere make it different & fun. It's an institution, it's original, it has character, & the line of tourists (notably, not many locals) draw attention & adds to the hype. There is value in hype, I respect that. But.. The meat: Usually, when good meat is slow cooked, the connective tissue softens ending in a "melt in your mouth" effect. Schwartz is not that unfortunately. They are clearly aware, as they try to compensate for the dry texture by including a bit of extra fat. It gets about half way there. The sandwich: A good sandwich is about balance. The mustard has a decent sweet tang, & the bread (seemed slightly stale) offsets the tough meat somewhat. A pickle would go a really long way though, or any kind of acidity really. My stomach is struggling hours later due to the tough lean protein... be warned! Conclusion: If you want a lot of meat that looks cool & is an experience, do it. If you just want a good, tasty & balanced sandwich & aren't impressed by the hype & the vibe...eh. There's a place on Mt Royal that is far superior, cheaper & bakes their own sandwich rolls fresh. Forget the name, but it's on the Jeanne Mance side & that line is 100% about the food. Edit: It's called Kahwa Cafe & is rightfully rated better than Schwartz. Granted it's different, but I'd wage 9/10 people would be better off going there.View more
We waited in line in the rain for 40 minutes & it was worth it. Ordered smoked meat sandwich, poutine & a pickle. Server was fabulous & the food was even better!! They have a take pit window also. They have several tables & a counter to sit at. We sat with 4 other people at a table for 6.View more
Time capsule of an amazing place. Memories from my childhood are exactly the same. The most perfect smoked meat sandwich ever, paired with a pickle that you cut like a steak & a Cott's black cherry pop! Share a table with everyone in the place & it's always busy. Waiting in line is worth it. The servers seemed nicer than I remember this time... Although the rough edges add to the charm.View more
Must go place. The meet was amazing. Get pickle on the side as well.View more
Classic Montréal deli with excellent smoked meat. It has the kind of atmosphere that other places try to simulate. Plan on an early lunch or late breakfast to avoid long lines. The classic order is the smoked meat sandwich with a cherry cola. Popular sides include sour kosher pickles & Cole slaw. It's one of those classic meals you have to have a least once.View more
Classic place in Montreal ! U have to go here if visiting. Sometimes there's a wait but usually doesn't take long. It's an old style diner vibe & very fast paced super fun ! Food is amazing!! Try the smoked meat poutine or smoked meat sandwich with a pickle & an old coke.View more
Smoked meat is tender & tasty. Pickles are good, & black cherry cola is delicious. Fries are very average.View more
I was looking forward to trying their famous smoked meat sandwich during my MTL visit. This was my first visit & sadly will be my last as I was disappointed in the food & service from the takeout counter. I ordered a smoked meat sandwich, pickle & cherry coke. I was shocked by the small portion size given the price charged(almost 30$ for everything) & that there isn't a combo offered at the takeout counter. My sandwich was kind of dry & made me feel sick later; also my pickle seemed rotten(I had to throw it away after my first bite). Plus I witnessed the cashier coughing & then giving the takeout order receipt to the guy making sandwiches after I received my order. Her customer service was lacking & I see that seems to be an issue from others' reviews. Plus no straws for soft drinks? I wish I had read the reviews beforehand but oh well. I will try another spot for smoked meat next time & hopefully have a better experience.View more
Definitely lived up to high expectations- tasty sandwich & a unique experience sitting at the counter in a legendary Montreal dining establishment. The kosher dill pickle & coleslaw were terrific too. Will definitely return.View more
I always come here every time I visit Montréal. They have the most delicious smoked meat. The service is very quick, specially during weekdays. I ordered small smoked meat with pickles. They serve it with bread in case you want to make a sandwich with it. But, even the small size platter is too much for one person. Lol I also recommend their coleslaw, as it's creamy & delicious.View more
A gem! We opted to share the large platter (~$24) & it came with the bread shown, we could assemble our own sandwiches & apply as much mustard as our heart desired. $2.50 per pickle & I recommend slicing it up for your sandwiches. Yum! We ordered medium cut (not too fatty) The style of dining is communal, there are 6 person tables that they seat mixed groups (in our case, 3 pairs of strangers) they are full at all times & do this to run efficiently, if you come in solo I noticed you were sent to the high top to sit without much wait in the queue. Notice the plate of fries in the top right corner of the photo? That was our table mates food, so it's cozy & tight, not a place to be able to privately chat, but more so a place to strike up a simple conversation with fellow hungry table mates. One of them told us about the Cotts black cherry pop as a must try, & it was very sweet but did cut the fat of the meat. Poutine fried done just right. Would return & recommend. They have a take out storefront next door also.View more
Fantastic diner experience with very tasty food. The food is freshly made & very hot. The smoked meat is heavenly juicy & delicious, the coleslaw is intriguingly sweet but acidic tangy at the same time & the whole pickle is fantastic paired with the meat. It is better to have a light schedule because the line is generally long especially if you are a party of 4+ people. I went on a friday night at 20:30 & the place was packed with a 20-25 minutes long queue.View more
Wow wow wow, did not disappoint..! Smoked Meat Sandwich 5/5 (Outstanding..!) Coleslaw 5/5 (Soooo good..!) Pickle 5/5 (Perfectly tangy & crunchy) Fries 4/5 (A touch greasy) Gravy 5/5 (Great flavour) Black Cherry soda pop 5/5 (The perfect accompaniment)View more
Great smoked meat & pickles. It's not a NYC deli, but it has a quality of its own that is nice.View more
Great smoked meat sandwich on rhy. Was in Montreal for the weekend & had to try & was very impressed. Make sure you order a pickle too 😋😋View more
We call it pastrami in NYC but apart from the different name the smoke meats at Schwartz's is amazing. & you can get it with poutine! Schwartz's always has a line but it moves fast & is worth the wait. Love the classic diner atmosphere & no frills service. Enjoy sitting with strangers who share the common interest of delicious cured meats. Along with the smoked meats get half sour pickles, cole slaw & poutine. Must visit in Montreal.View more
This was a really fun stop. The place hearkens to a different time & feel. A true Montreal deli with atmosphere in abundance. The food was good, but be prepared to pay for experience as much as your meal. A sandwich, pickle, & can of coke was just over $35 for one person. It was worth the price of admission, but I am not sure there is enough here to keep me coming back.View more
