My partner & I visited Sammi & Soup in Chinatown, & it was such a treat! Despite how busy the restaurant was, the staff moved diners through quickly, & we were seated within 15 minutes. As a dumpling enthusiast, I was thrilled by the variety on the menu-fried, soup, & steamed options with so many delicious fillings to choose from. After much deliberation, we decided on the pork & chive soup dumplings, lamb soup, & sweet pork fried dumplings. The soup dumplings were absolutely incredible-bursting with flavor & perfectly tender. The fried dumplings were a touch greasy, but the pork filling was juicy & satisfying. The vibe of the restaurant is upbeat & casual, with a mostly younger crowd, making it a great spot for a quick, flavorful meal. If I lived in the area, this place would absolutely be a regular stop for me.View more
This place is really, really good. Cheap prices, good service, & ultimately excellent dumplings. Went here with my boyfriend, & we got two servings of dumplings. The first was the spicy pork steamed dumplings, which were an absolute delight, extremely tasty. We also got the fried dumplings (I believe pork & cabbage). Which were also really good.View more
Looking to try a delicious steamed dumplings spot? Then you have come to the right place. Ordered the steamed pork & chives which is my absolute favourite along with the classic pork dumplings. Both were delicious! I will definitely be back here. I also want to mention the service we received was top tier! Water glass never went empty & our smiles never stopped.View more
Delicious! We had to wait a bit because it was full, but well worth the wait. Service was really fast. We had cucumbers & both steamed & fried dumplings, & everything was perfect.View more
Had the egg & chive dumplings (steamed) & they stand among the tastiest I've ever hadView more
Clearly the best dumpling in the town. The steamed ones are unique. The pork & leak, pork, leak & shrimp & lamb coriander are the best. Same is true for fried dumpling. If you are two persons, order one steamed & one fried Dumpling. If you like pork, you can order shanghai fried buns, they are delicious. Some vegetarian dumplings are also available. For starter, hot & spur soup, wonton soups, seasoned cucumbers & many other options. If you are visiting montreal, this is a must go placeView more
The best soup dumplings in Montreal! Staff is friendly & helpful. However, the seating area is small, so it's crowded quite often. Definitely would recommend the steamed soup dumplings!View more
I got fried & steamed veggie dumplings, which were very good. I went during dinner time & it was pretty busy (~35 min wait). They had mistaken the order as only fried dumplings but quickly fixed it.View more
I love these dumplings. They're always so comfortings & on point, & so affordable. I pretty much always get the steamed pork & chive ones, because they're consistently good & I can be a creature of habit, but I know a lot of the other options on the menu are good too. The fried ones are also good but if you want them to be soupier on the inside, I recommend steamed.View more
I love this place for quick steamed dumplins my fav are the shrimp coriandeView more
Small, crowded place with good food. The steamed & fried dumplings are both good. Prepare for a bit of a wait during lunch hour, since they don't have much room. The wait staff are very polite & friendly.View more
First time eating here. It was difficult to find a day where there wasn't a line all the way onto the sidewalk. However, friday at 5pm, there was hardly anybody. The service is very nice & we got to enjoy seats on the terrasse.
Spicy & sour soup: the soup was watery, not spicy & the bowl was as big as my small asian hands. Definitely not worth it for 4$.
Steamed dumplings: The lamb & cilantro was so good. The broth was flavorful, the lamb wasn't stinky. The dough has just enough chew & isn't too thick. Perfect dough to filling ratio.
Pan-fried dumplings: it's my first time trying pan-fried, & although there was a crunch from the fried dough-water, there wasn't much browning under the actual dumpling. Also the crunchy part stuck to my teeth a bit. Idk if that's normal. The pork & cabbage filling is very basic & tastes basic. Which is good, but I think I had higher expectation. I think I would have liked the pan-fried dumpling more if had I chosen another filling.
I would totally recommend this place for their steamed dumplings. Easily the best steamed dumplings I've had Montreal, especially for a very reasonable price. The ones at Qing Hua are too thick in dough, in my opinion. The other dishes are not worth it. The one at Mont-royal has muuuuch better soup!View more
One of my favourite places for soup dumplings in Canada. I have been going since its opening years ago, & quality has not changed at all! Paper-thin dough, broth-filled dumplings are served in a bamboo steamer directly on your table. I always go for the classics (pork & cabbage, pork & chives) but the other options, especially anything lamb-based, are also worth a try. Vegetarian options are available & also tasty (egg & tofu-based.
I went around 2 pm on a weekend day, & even if lines were relatively short, the wait times for food once seated were very long (around 1-1h15 for steamed dumplings). There might be a staff shortage right now; still a wonderful place to grab a bite, but just be mindful of the wait times even when seated in case you’re on a schedule.View more
