I can never have too many. I particularly recommend the pork, shrimp, & scallop. Yum! I've been here countless times (at least 30). They have a new outdoor patio which is nice but the service was a little slow. The waiter started talking to his friend as I was halfway through my order. Nevermind. Go for the dumplings.View more
First time eating here. It was difficult to find a day where there wasn't a line all the way onto the sidewalk. However, friday at 5pm, there was hardly anybody. The service is very nice & we got to enjoy seats on the terrasse.
Spicy & sour soup: the soup was watery, not spicy & the bowl was as big as my small asian hands. Definitely not worth it for 4$.
Steamed dumplings: The lamb & cilantro was so good. The broth was flavorful, the lamb wasn't stinky. The dough has just enough chew & isn't too thick. Perfect dough to filling ratio.
Pan-fried dumplings: it's my first time trying pan-fried, & although there was a crunch from the fried dough-water, there wasn't much browning under the actual dumpling. Also the crunchy part stuck to my teeth a bit. Idk if that's normal. The pork & cabbage filling is very basic & tastes basic. Which is good, but I think I had higher expectation. I think I would have liked the pan-fried dumpling more if had I chosen another filling.
I would totally recommend this place for their steamed dumplings. Easily the best steamed dumplings I've had Montreal, especially for a very reasonable price. The ones at Qing Hua are too thick in dough, in my opinion. The other dishes are not worth it. The one at Mont-royal has muuuuch better soup!View more
One of my favourite places for soup dumplings in Canada. I have been going since its opening years ago, & quality has not changed at all! Paper-thin dough, broth-filled dumplings are served in a bamboo steamer directly on your table. I always go for the classics (pork & cabbage, pork & chives) but the other options, especially anything lamb-based, are also worth a try. Vegetarian options are available & also tasty (egg & tofu-based.
I went around 2 pm on a weekend day, & even if lines were relatively short, the wait times for food once seated were very long (around 1-1h15 for steamed dumplings). There might be a staff shortage right now; still a wonderful place to grab a bite, but just be mindful of the wait times even when seated in case you’re on a schedule.View more
