Un restaurant japonais de Montréal a reçu des amendes de plus de 10 000 $ pour des invasions de souris & de coquerelles qui semblaient avoir pris le contrôle du commerce en 2023 & 2024.
Quand deux inspectrices en salubrité alimentaire sont passées au Saizen Sushi du boulevard Décarie le 31 mars 2023, elles voulaient simplement s'assurer que le commerçant respectait la réglementation sur l'utilisation d'ustensiles en plastique. Mais ça s'est terminé en inspection en règle face à une quantité impressionnante de crottes de souris un peu partout, dans la cuisine, sur des emballages d'aliments, des tablettes & une grande quantité au sous-sol.
« Il y avait des excréments sur le plancher sous une table sur laquelle se trouvaient des contenants de sauce soya & un panier à vaisselle avec des verres », note entre autres la police de la salubrité dans un rapport d'inspection obtenu par Le Journal.
Le propriétaire a aussitôt plaidé qu'un exterminateur viendrait dorénavant toutes les semaines, mais il n'avait à ce moment aucun rapport d'extermination à montrer. Il assurait également que si la situation était si grave, c'est que l'employé responsable du ménage était en vacances depuis deux semaines.
Le rapport d'inspection ne mentionnait pas si l'entrepreneur en rénovation était lui aussi en vacances, mais on y notait l'état général problématique du restaurant, avec des portes, des plafonds & un escalier en mauvais état, des tuiles de plancher brisées & des trous dans les murs.
Une amende de 4900 $ a été imposée au Saizen Sushi en février 2024.
DE NOUVEAUX AMIS
En novembre 2024, une des deux inspectrices a payé une visite de suivi au commerçant. Le responsable du ménage semblait toujours en vacances.
« Dans l'aire de préparation des sushis, lorsque j'ai tiré la grande planche à découper qui sert de surface de table de travail, j'ai constaté la présence de deux très petites blattes vivantes, note-t-elle d'entrée de jeu. »
« Dans l'aire de préparation des sushis, il y avait aussi la présence de dizaines d'excréments de souris sur une tablette basse d'un comptoir de préparation central, ajoute-t-elle plus tard. Les excréments sur la tablette se trouvaient parmi du matériel alimentaire en entreposage, dont des emballages jetables. Plusieurs excréments se trouvaient aussi sur un contenant en plastique blanc. »
La présence généralisée de vermine a incité un juge à imposer une amende de 6000 $ au récidiviste.
The food here is genuinely top-tier-the Honeymoon Roll is a must-try, & the Salmon Popper Salad is consistently excellent. It's some of the best sushi in the area.
However, the service could definitely use a personality adjustment. The waiters often seem like they're having a bad month, every month. If you can ignore the moody service, the food is well worth the visit.

The sushi was OK - but I feel like most specialty sushi restaurants I've been to, & even sushi bars, are better, especially for their prices. The cheesecake was good. The service was pleasant. This place can get pretty loud, but overall nice vibes.
Saizen Sushi Bar is outstanding. The fish is super fresh, the rolls are full of flavor, & the presentation is great. Service is friendly & quick, & the atmosphere is warm & inviting. Easily one of the best sushi places around-highly recommend!
What Saizen lacks in atmosphere & service, they make up for in food quality & presentation.
We enjoyed delicious sushi, pasta & dumplings.
The staff weren't attentive & the menus were well worn. The cleaning staff were hauling garbage through the seating area.
A few small changes could really elevate the experience significantly.

Nous étions pressés & nous devions manger rapidement, alors nous sommes entrés par hasard. Quelle perle cachée! Excellent service & probablement les meilleurs sushis que j'aie mangés cette année!!!
Had an amazing experience at Saizen Sushi! The food was absolutely delicious-fresh, flavorful, & beautifully presented. From the moment we walked in, the service was top-notch. Karen & Sara were our waitresses, & they were both fantastic-super friendly, fast, & very attentive. They made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed.
The whole team at Saizen was on point, & it really made the dining experience that much better. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for great sushi & even better service!

We ordered shrimp tempura & the mini boat platter. The shrimp tempura was not even actual shrimp. It was basically shrimp paste fried up. The sushi platter was ok. Too pricy for the quality of food. 85$ for only 30pcs of sushi.

I placed a large platter order & had to make a bunch of adjustments for allergies. The staff were amazing & super helpful. Everything was ready when I arrived & there were two stunning platters that separated out the pieces with allergies. The sushi was fresh & delicious.
Way too costly & the food was average. Strange to get an assortment of dipping sauces with your Sushi & Sashimi. The Hot Saki was cold & the cold beer was warm, not to mention that the price for the Saki was extremely over priced!! The quality of the Sashimi was questionable! The owner really needs to rethink their food quality & pricing. The facility is nice, there is potential if the owner can get it figured out?
