About

Saiko delivers a focused selection of traditional Japanese staples centered on the art of sushi preparation. The menu emphasizes raw fish quality through precise knife work and consistent grain texture in rice seasoning. Patrons encounter a variety of nigiri, sashimi, and maki rolls that showcase standard flavor profiles typical of regional Asian culinary traditions. The preparation style prioritizes structural integrity and balance, ensuring that ingredients remain the primary focus of each piece. Minimalist plating techniques highlight the natural aesthetics of the seafood and seasonal garnishes provided. By concentrating on technical proficiency rather than excessive ornamentation, the kitchen maintains a predictable standard for those seeking core Japanese preparations in a functional setting. This approach provides a straightforward interaction with established raw fish techniques and staple culinary practices found within the broader regional category.

Guests frequently praise the restaurant for its warm, welcoming atmosphere and the attentive, friendly nature of the staff, who are often described as professional and accommodating. As a cozy, intimate bring-your-own-wine spot, it has become a favorite for those seeking an authentic dining experience that consistently exceeds expectations, with many patrons highlighting signature rolls as must-try items. I've been twice, the food is delicious & well worth the cost, however the atmosphere & service leave something to be desired.

Service: during our first visit the service was fantastic, they were understaffed that evening but very kind, checked in often, & apologized many times for delays caused by being understaffed even though we stated multiple times it was okay. We didn't feel that service had suffered in anyway & wouldn't have known they were understaffed if we hadn't been told.

During our second visit the service was great to start, but they'd set a 1h30min limit to our seating without telling us & 2hrs is typically the standard seating time given by restaurants. We were only advised of the limited seating time when we asked to order more, as many tables around us had done without issue, at which point the waitress told us that she'd forgotten to tell us that our table had a limited seating time & we needed to leave in 10-15 minutes, though she was smiling her tone wasn't very friendly. We told the waitress that we were still hungry, we'd like to order more. From that moment on staff wasn't very friendly, & we kept getting what I could only describe as death glare from staff near the cash. As far as we could tell, we were the only ones told about a limited seating time & they were able to push two tables together to accommodate the reservation that they claimed to need out table for so I really don't understand why they didn't just to that to begin with.

They set a seating time limit lower than what's standard, it was their responsibility to tell us at the moment we reserved, or at the very least when we'd arrived. Their failure to mange the restaurant should not have been put on us, had they notified us prior & not taken 45 minutes for everything we'd initially ordered to be sent to our table we could have easily accommodated the limited time.

Atmosphere: its a very small restaurant, which is fine except for the fact that they take an insane amount of delivery/takeout orders which means the restaurant door opens constantly. This wasn't an issue during our second visit because the weather was much warmer, but during our first visit in winter we were freezing. Every time the door opened we felt the cold February air, the thick usually way too warm sweater I was wearing wasn't warm enough & our feet were cold despite our warm boots.
