Sabrosa is described as a lively, well located spot in Old Montreal offering Mexican and Latin street food with a warm, festive vibe and a pleasant outdoor terrace. The reviews praise freshness and flavor across the menu, with standout dishes including birria tacos, Al Pastor tacos, fish and shrimp tacos, ceviche, guacamole, papaya salad, and corn on the cob, along with house hot sauces and generous portions; drinks are generally tasty though not always standout, and some guests find them decent value for the location. Service is often noted as friendly, attentive, and efficient, with some servers earning special praise, while a few visits mention slower service during busy times or occasional inconsistencies in execution. The atmosphere, decor, and opportunity for people watching are repeatedly highlighted as positives, making Sabrosa feel like a go to option for a relaxed lunch or dinner; a few comments point to a touristy vibe and price considerations, but overall the place is viewed as a solid choice with high memories of flavor and a lively setting.
Highly recommend getting food & drink or even just cocktails!
Wonderful decor, really lovely atmosphere & good selection on the menu. Super friendly waitress who was so attentive, gave us recommendations & was serving everyone so well. Thank you for your great service!
Ordered a couple cocktails which tasted so lovely - good layers of flavour, texture & presentation.
We tried the tuna starter which was tasty, maybe a little too fishy, but came with great guac & elements. Papaya salad was refreshing & was lots of it.
Then had the fried chicken tacos & pork tacos - pork was outstanding, chicken was probably more fried batter than actual chicken but it was still tasty & nice selection of hot sauces on the side.
Wish we could've tried the prawn ceviche or the beef biria tacos as those looked great too.
Only slight downside was the price - it adds up quickly! But then the service, drinks & food overall was tasty.
We went to Sabrosa for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. The restaurant is located at a prime corner in old town facing the port. This area of old town is lined with many restaurants & street vendors/artists.
The menu has limited vegetarian options given their rice & beans used chicken stock. We ordered guacamole & chips, the quinoa & kale salad & the vegan tacos.
The guacamole & chips were what we expected. The quinoa & kale salad was a simple (mostly kale) salad with a zesty dressing. The vegan tacos come with three tacos, are soft tacos & the filling is guacamole topped with cooked mushrooms. Unfortunately, we were disappointed in lack of flavor. The tacos were stuffed well, however.
We sat outside, though the ambience inside is also nice. Only downside to outside on a nice day is the random bee(s) that keep flying around, trying to land on you or the food.
We got the papaya salad, fish tacos & braised beef tacos! The tacos were really good. I felt like the salad could've used a bit more sauce. Overall we sat outside in the middle of Old Montreal, vibes were great.
We ordered shrimp 🍤 tacos, mushroom quesadilla & green papaya salad. Shrimp tacos were great, very tasty. Mushroom quesadilla was alright. Green papaya was tangy, not really sweet. Food was served fast. It was hot & we didn't sit outside. It'd be nice to sit outside in summer on a cooler day or at evening times.
Sabrosa is by far the best restaurant at Place Jacques-Cartier. The location is prime, & the food was outstanding. The salads & ceviche were incredibly fresh & flavorful, & the tacos were delicious as well. The service was warm, attentive, & efficient. Highly recommended!
We had an absolutely lovely experience dining here. Here's what we ate:
- Papaya salad: It's not the same as Thai salads. Taste wise okay!
- Corn on the cob: Excellent!
- Fish tacos: Was good. Missed seasoning. Could have used more salt.
- Chicken tacos: Super flavorful. Really enjoyed these.
- The Obsession cocktail was really good.
Justin was a great server to us. :)
Highly recommend coming here.
One of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time! We ordered quite a few different things including fish tacos, green papaya salad, shrimp ceviche, guacamole, etc & everything was not only explosively delicious but also beautifully made. This would make a wonderful spot for lunch dates (when our family ate there for lunch yesterday). Vibes there are amazing & the service was excellent. 5/5 easily!
I went here VERY skeptical. Mexican food in Canada? In a super touristy area? C'mon. But, the food was great! Very fresh ingredients & vibrant flavors. I had the shrimp ceviche & Sabrosa kale salad with a glass of orange wine. I enjoyed it very much. The atmosphere was cosy yet modern. Service was warm & attentive. This is a lovely spot to stop for a meal while in the main shopping area of Old Montreal.
We ordered a salad, El Pastor, calamari, a mojito & beers. I gave 2 stars because on average the waiter & waitresses were polite. The El pastor was very oily that they dripped & I had to ask for extra napkins. The salad was super salty & I complained to my main waiter & he said he never heard that before. I complained to another waitress & she asked me if the service was good & I said sure but the salad is very salty & her response was at least the service was good. I said you know what it's okay & I paid & tipped them 20% & left. The salad was so salty that it was not edible. So they took back the full plate of salad. It seemed the oily El pastor gave me serious indigestion & I didn't sleep well that evening. Please speak with the chef & have him improve the menu because the reception is really good with the young Brazilian friendly girl. Maybe contact Gordon Ramzie before your restaurant becomes a kitchen nightmare. I will not complain about the super small servicing of calamari.
One of the best meals I've had in recent memory! Great location right in Old Port, the terrace was absolutely lovely & not too hot, & our server Ismail (spelling?) was phenomenal - made great drink recommendations, was prompt & accurate, had excellent knowledge of the menu, & was an absolute delight to chat with! We got the ceviche, birria tacos, corn, & green papaya salad, & everything was incredible. Definitely on the pricier side but I was pleasantly surprised by how filling the food was - especially the tacos. Would come back, hands down - one of the best dining experiences I've had in Montreal!
