Romados emerges in these reviews as a Montreal staple famous for juicy, smoky Portuguese rotisserie chicken, generous portions, and a pastry and dessert counter that many say rivals the best in town. Visitors praise a welcoming, efficient staff, a clean space, and a pronounced aroma that signals the grill, with favorites spanning chicken sandwiches, bifana, chouriço, poutine and a variety of sides. Pastel de nata and other pastries are repeatedly highlighted as standout treats, and the poutine with chicken or sausage is often noted as especially satisfying. While the experience is described as fast, friendly and affordable, several reviews mention price increases and occasional inconsistencies, with some batches of chicken drying out or sauces being too thin or mild and portions evolving over time. Some commentary notes a shift after ownership changes but others feel the kitchen has regained its former energy and flavor, and the overall tone remains loyal and appreciative. All in all, Romados is seen as a dependable go to for bold flavors, hearty portions, and a range of Portuguese bites that keep customers coming back for the nostalgic, comforting mix of grill, spice, and sweet pastries.
Great poutine. The small without meat was more than enough for 2 looking for a snack. More would have been too heavy. We liked the helpful, friendly staff & the Portuguese pops they had in the fridge.
Ok, so you know, it is 5 stars for the food, the 4 stars have nothing to do with the food.
A staple in Montreal since Fernando Machado opened Romados in 1994. George Karaglanis & Vicki Eliopoulos took over Romados, a Portuguese chicken restaurant in from the Machado family in 2021.
This place has character, history, tradition, pride, & has become a staple in the Montreal foodservice scene akin to Schwartz's on the Main.
They have been pumping out some of the best Portuguese rotisserie chicken in the city, & whenever I am hungry & in the area I end up having an impulsive meal filled with perfectly home made french fries & succulent chicken that rivals any competitor. To not eat here is a restaurant experience sin!
Atmosphere is nothing to speak of & service is pretty good given the (what always seems like) a constant line of people rushing to eat.
Go, eat, enjoy, & tell me I am wrong - I dare you.
Not sure why, but I noticed less customers after Romados reopened after a long closure a few years back. Since they reopened I've found their chicken as good as ever & recently ordered 3 chickens for a potluck dinner on May 19th. Everyone raved about the flavor. I will keep taking advantage of the smaller lineups & keep going back.

Casual restaurant specializing in Portuguese-style rotisserie chicken, fries & pasteis de nata. I tagged along with a meat eater; there weren't many vegan options for me other than fries & a side salad.
