Our filet mignon was so soft & flavorful. Our appetizer garlic Knotts with dipping sauce was amazing. Service was good. We were seated right away & he lit a candle on table. The neighborhood was a little sketchy as we had homeless people yelling at us .

I loved the celery root carpaccio, but as an American, the steak disappointed me. The sear marks are pretty, but the steak itself had no seasoning. Every steak I've had in the US has a nice crust & at least a saltiness to it that enhances the flavor. I don't think this steak was seasoned at all. It comes with a mustard & a peppercorn gravy. The gravy, I wasn't a fan of, too bitter for my taste. The mustard is too overpowering to dip the steak in it, wouldn't taste the steak. If this is something you would like, enjoy, but if there are any americans considering this, it's likely not to your taste. I saw reviews from two years ago really liking it. In general, I have this attitude of, you can't go wrong with a steak at a restaurant. I don't feel that way anymore. There were two waitresses for the whole restaurant. I'd say short staffed. I sat & ate alone. It was easy to notice the difference in how I was treated. I ordered the carpaccio & then later when I ordered the steak. I was never told the specials. I get it, one person eating doesn't make the same amount in tips… If the steak was delicious I wouldn't have cared though.
First timers, stopped in on Keela based upon a random Google search as a way of kicking off our first night of the Montreal Jazz Festival & were not disappointed, not in the least.
The atmosphere is energetic warm & welcoming -- the food & drink pairing is beyond satisfying. The oysters on the half shell were a perfect way to get things started, complemented by a local Montreal craft beer & a cucumber infused summer time mocktail followed by a spectacular celery root carpaccio & melt in your mouth baked scallops.
Time for a house specialty cocktail named Anger & Resentment -- don't know the inspiration for this flavourful concoction, but it works & is likely cheaper than therapy it implies is needed.
To top off our first time culinary experience at Keela, we indulged in the fall off the bone baked dill pickle enhanced ribs. So good.
In conclusion, Keela is a gem in the heart of Montreal & we are better off for having experienced it.
Kudos to Lucy the bar keep for the evening ending shot of homemade Lemoncello
What a lovely hidden gem. The food was amazing, service was thorough. They were very flexible & understanding of us being late, as our uber dropped us off a 10 minute walk from our destination. Just beware if you are ubering as the restaurant has stated this has happened before. Super worth it, everything was so fresh!
Celebrated a birthday here. The staff was so nice! & the food was excellent! The celeriac appetizer was incredible. Loved my experience here, thank you so much for having us!
I went on a Friday & before writing this I saw a review complaining that the singer speaks English. Yes. Obviously. He's a singer, not a language test subject.
Are we really at the point where someone should lose work because they don't perform language perfection for a customer? That feels less like feedback & more like someone looking for something to be offended by. 🙄
If you're coming here to spread that kind of energy, maybe pick a place 100 years in the past.
I recommend THIS BAR cause while I was there the vibes were great.
