If you're looking for authentic Peruvian cuisine in Montreal, Solymar Restaurant is well worth the visit.
The causas are a must-try. My favorites were the Octopus Causa with an olive sauce & the Causa Acevichada, . If it's your first visit, order the three-causa sampler, it's the perfect way to discover this classic Peruvian dish.
The ceviches are also outstanding. The salmon ceviche was incredibly fresh & paired perfectly with an imported Peruvian beer.
Located in the heart of La Alameda Peruana (Montreal's'Little Peru'), this restaurant is just one block from the busy Saint-Hubert shopping district & metro station, making it easy to find street parking before continuing toward the Jean-Talon Market area.
From the outside, the restaurant is fairly modest, but don't let that fool you. Inside you'll find a surprisingly spacious dining room, an impressive wine selection, & an extensive Peruvian menu with enough variety to keep you coming back to try something new.
A fantastic spot for anyone wanting an authentic taste of Peru in Montreal. Highly recommended!
I've tried the best ceviche in Peru & this was just as good.
On the other hand, the'Jalea Solymar' dish was a bit of disappointment. Underneath the fried calamari, there's a huge amount of another type of fish that's noticeably bland.
At the very bottom there's also fried Yuca which was cold & extremely dry. Not even a generous amount of salt could save it.
Otherwise, the service was excellent & I could see that many Peruvian locals trust this place for authentic food.
An amazing Peruvian restaurant that truly delivers on flavor! The lomo saltado was absolutely outstanding, perfectly cooked, well seasoned, & easily one of the best I've had. Having recently traveled to Peru, I can say the authenticity here really shines through in the dishes.
The ceviche was slightly on the fishy side for my taste, but everything else was spot on. From the quality of the food to the overall experience, it was fantastic. Definitely a place I'd highly recommend if you're craving authentic Peruvian cuisine!

Un classique des restaurants péruviens. Le ceviche & la jalea sont toujours aussi bons, mais les portions ont diminué tandis que les prix ont augmenté. Idéal pour les groupes.
I'm editing my review. After coming back a couple of times, I've noticed several improvements. The quality of the plates has improved, especially the ones based on seafood. Ceviche is always good & Pisco Sour is the best I've tried in a very long time. Propably the most common plates are not so good (I don't like Jalea or Lomo Saltado here) but other plates are delicious (like Chupe, Pariguela). The desserts have also improved, I recommend the picarones. The prices are still a little high, but they're similar to other Peruvian restaurants in Montreal.
Institution peruvienne à Montréal, ce resto est très bon ,moules à la chalaca, jalea, ceviche, lomo saltado , picarones , vins pas cher, bières aussi , ambiance latine , le service d alex impeccable...
Very good food, got the ceviche solymar & t-bone. We were both super full & satisfied. We had to wait a bit, but the waiter was nice & attentive. Atmosphere was good, quiet, we could talk & enjoy our meal.
This is my'go to' place. It's not downtown Montreal, but the trip to the east end is well worth it. Authentic Peruvian cuisine, great atmosphere, & live music on some nights. Ate there dozens of times over the years, success every time. Make sure to hold back the spicy'rocoto' when ordering ceviche, unless you know what to expect!
This place is phenomenal, simply delicious & full of flavours! A weekly go-to as takeaway, a mix of the seafood rice, the fried seafood platter, ceviche, & then we try a newer dish as well. The sauces are also delicious, always a treat to order from this place.
