Afficher toutrice(40) chicken(22) noodle(22) clay(22) soup(16) chinese(16) dumpling(16) recommend(14) dishes(11) authentic(11) beef(10) clean(9)Nice Chinese restaurant. The beef & eggs stone pot rice is flavourful. It comes with a soup as well. Chicken rice with a lot of ginger on it. Personally i like ginger, so i dont mind. Appetizers are tasty especially the deep fried pork. Cold served spicy chicken is juicy.
I feel sorry to rate 2/5 because Pinophyta has unique items, the service is so great, but the food really disappoints. This is the epitome of just because you are different, high quality, & put in a great effort it does not make you good.
First, if you are going to serve COLD blanched flavourless chicken (poulet salivant) then please clarify so. The fridge-cold chicken 🐔❄? was unexpected & unpleasant.
Secondly, the wonton soup hits you with a disappointing broth smell. Strange flavour & taste, & the meat inside the wonton not properly cooked, or wrong flavour idk (pork or beef + shrimp). It's weird bc it feels like they did put in a great deal of effort. I also found the noodles underwhelming, but still high quality, not cheap.
Good peanut butter dumplings 🥟 & the service from the dark haired lady (early 20s maybe) with glasses very polite & respectful.
Maybe the food is really authentically Chinese & my taste buds have adapted to Chinese-Canadian expectations too much. Until then, this place is only 2/5 for me, but I find it great others like it so much the average goes to 4.8/5, provided the reviews are authentic.
Worth a try, but expect very different & potentially unpleasant. Go if you want an unexpected experience while accepting the risk of positive or negative.
very authentic chinese cuisine, their cold chicken appetizers has a fair amount of chicken considering the price of the dish. we also ordered their scullion oil noodle, the noodles were sticking together & the dish was cold when delivered. despite the coldness of the dish everything was good. recommend the chili oil wonton, very nice taste & the filling was very tasty. would come back again!
This is a hidden gem. The food is wonderful - you have a great selection of northern & southern Chinese food - & it's very delicious. Terracotta rice / clay pot rice is just like what you can get in Hong Kong. We arrived at around 12:40PM on a Friday & the food was served quite quickly. Reasonable portion for a reasonable price, I would even say it's a bargain because how delicious it was. Restaurant is very clean & staff is very nice. I would definitely come back here again.
My newest find for amazing Chinese food! This is truly a gem for Chinese food & we need more of these in Montreal!
We came here 3 times & I can def say the food was delicious & fresh. Hats off to the chef owner because the Clay pot dishes, Hainan chicken & DanDan noodles were better than many many places I've been to all over the place.
I def recommend this place for great Chinese food.
The'Mouth Watering chicken' (cold dish) is the perfect dish to start off with. Then you can try the Dandan noodles & clay pots. Hainan chicken is very hard to find a good place & this place hits the spot for very good!
Expect to see me here often !
One thing they can improve on is the ordering. out of the 3 times I was here, first time the waiter complelty forgot to order the clay pot, second time got the wrong clay pot order.
still a 5 stars for me!
Different Chinese food. Nothing typical about this place. Spicy tripe & pig ears.
After exploring around McGill University, I found this Chinese restaurant. I tried the cold beef & spicy kelp?both were authentic & delicious. The braised pork intestine noodles were also amazing, with rich marinade & a flavorful broth. The attentive service & cozy atmosphere were a big plus. Highly recommend!
Still one of the best authentic Chinese restaurants in Montreal
This menu features Chinese classics like Hainan chicken, beef noodle soup, & chilled beef shank. I found the flavours familiar but somewhat muted for the occidental palate but not their wallet. I suggest trekking to Chinatown or the suburbs for the real deal at lower prices & larger portions. The service & ambiance were impeccable.
Pinophyta may have an unusual name, but it's a hidden gem for neighborhood, family-style Chinese cuisine. I only ordered a few small bites & a clear soup, but everything was comforting-exactly what a traveler needs. The restaurant is clean (no sticky tables!) & well spaced, making for a relaxed & pleasant dining experience. I'd definitely come back, & I highly recommend it as a go-to spot for families or everyday meals. 10/10.
Best Chinese food ever! Real whole food done in tasty ways. Very clean & great service.
