Mastard is frequently described as a standout Michelin starred dining destination in Montreal, offering modern refined tasting menus that highlight local Quebec and Canadian ingredients with precise technique and inventive pairings. The setting is intimate and elegant, with attentive service and well-curated wine and non-alcoholic pairings that enhance the flavors without overpowering them. While most reviewers praise the quality, creativity and value, a few note small portion sizes in the multi-course format, occasional inconsistencies in service or wine timing, and the challenge of securing a reservation, but overall the experience is described as memorable, immersive and worth returning for again and again.
I wanted to love Mastard so much but there are just too many issues. The food is tasty but the timing, portions, attention to detail need to be improved. For instance, we got the wine pairing but our waitperson would consistently pour our wine 15 min before the course it was meant for arrived. By the time food arrived, the 3 oz pour was gone or not at the right temp anymore. Another example: the portions are tiny & spaced with more than 20 min between courses. The same course can arrive at the same table in wildly different sizes. Lastly, the wine pairing consisted of mostly Eastern European wines...about as good as it sounds. Also, just know that looking at the pics of the food, the portions have gotten smaller with time (very similar dishes but with 3 then 2 & now one scallop). Maybe by the time you read this, there won't be any scallops left!?
One of the best value-for-money meals of my life. Impeccable presentation & masterful execution. Even the humble Jerusalem artichoke has become noble. Wines off the beaten path, yet in perfect harmony with friendly & amiable service. It clearly shows that the team enjoys working together. Moreover, the kitchen is calm, with no apparent stress. I became addicted after my first visit, & it certainly won't be the last.
The food was excellent - little works of art! The service was also excellent & very hospitable. We had a small problem with the choice of orange wine at our table which was addressed & handeled very graciously. I have already recommended you to three people since last night & will definitely come back!
Amazing & creative dishes. Delicate tastes & combinations. Excellent wine pairings. The amuse-bouche was the least interesting item & was outrageously priced compared to the rest of the set menu. I would definitely repeat this experience.

I went into this dinner & restaurant with high expectations, & I have to admit that the experience at Mastard hit every note perfectly. Every plate was complex yet accessible, warm hearted, balanced & exciting to the palate. I usually don't choose to go for the wine pairing in restaurants but if there is ever a place to try it, it's here. Great service, great food, great wine.
My wife & I stayed at an AirBnB several blocks away for our anniversary vacation. A bartender at Isle de Garde recommended Mastard for our anniversary dinner. It was perfect. Every dish was superbly crafted. The wine pairings were so unexpected & well selected. The staff was so professional. It was an unbelievable experience.
Might be the best restaurant in Montreal currently. Seasonal, creative tasting menus, excellent wine pairings & fantastic service. I've eaten here 4 times & each time was better than the last.
This was my second time at Mastard & I have only good things to say. The food is incredible. Each plate is even better then the other. The wine selection was so perfectly well balanced to the plates. & not just that, but the staff is always so friendly & super professional. Can't wait for my third visite !
Exceptional service & extremely high-quality food & wine service. A welcoming atmosphere & cutting edge concept for an excellent tasting menu featuring superior local ingredients crafted & presented by skilled chefs showcasing their talents. A must-see for anyone who appreciates truly amazing local cuisine. We will return!
Wonderful dinner, unique lesser known wines & excellent service. Emphasis on tasty light sauces & vegetables. Only marred by a broken air conditioner on a very hot day.
Casual atmosphere.
Refreshing to enjoy a straight forward prix fixe / Carte blanche menu. Despite being a tasting menu, appropriate alterations were made for our party with one of the guests being pregnant. The corn tart dish was our favourite of the night, & the canteloupe dessert was phenomenal as well. The wine pairing was very interesting to try new wines. Thanks for a wonderful night back in Montreal!
