I've been going to L'Avenue for over 15 years-first at the Mont-Royal location & later at the Notre-Dame one. Over all these years, the food has always been excellent: consistently well prepared, generous plates, & usually very friendly staff. It's one of the reasons my family & I have kept coming back regularly since the Notre-Dame location opened.
However, I've had a disappointing experience with the same server two or three times now at the Notre-Dame location. For lack of a better way to describe it, she seems to saunter from table to table, rarely smiles, & does not come across as particularly friendly. During our last visit, she was actually rude to me.
I always order a single pancake with strawberries & chocolate for our 6-year-old. This time, she brought the full version (three or four pancakes). When she came back to the table later, I mentioned that we had meant to order the one-pancake version. Her response was:'Ben il fallait me le dire,' which is not the level of customer service I've come to expect from your restaurant.
It's unfortunate, because we've been loyal customers for many years & genuinely enjoy the food & atmosphere. But experiences like this do make me think twice about returning.
I would be happy to discuss this further with management if that would be helpful.
Thought it was going to be better with all the rave reviews. Not sure why this place is so popular. The pancakes taste gummy. The potatoes taste like they were overcooked in the microwave. My dish was served cold.
This wasn't my first time here, but this visit was mid. The wait time was extremely long, especially in the cold, & table turnover was very slow even though some tables were already empty. Groups that arrived later were seated before people waiting in groups of one or two, which felt unfair. The bacon was very hard & overcooked, & the scrambled eggs didn't taste fresh. Loved the pancakes tho.
L'Avenue delivers an exceptional dining experience that is both refined & memorable. From the moment we arrived, the staff were warm, attentive, & impeccably professional, creating an atmosphere that felt both welcoming & refined. Service was seamless-prompt without ever feeling rushed, & thoughtful without being intrusive. From the very first sip to the final bite, every element reflected thoughtful craftsmanship & impeccable quality.
We began with the detox drinks, which were remarkably invigorating-crisp, well-balanced, & wonderfully refreshing. They cleansed the palate while setting a vibrant tone for the meal ahead.
The Bobby Discovers Istanbul was a true standout. The poached eggs were executed with remarkable precision, boasting a luxuriously delicate texture & flawless consistency. Each bite was rich, aromatic, & layered with depth, easily ranking among the finest poached egg dishes I've encountered. The chicken patties complemented the dish beautifully-succulent, expertly seasoned, & cooked to tender perfection, offering both comfort & sophistication.
To conclude, the Strawberry Nocciolata pancakes were nothing short of indulgent. Impossibly light, airy, & exquisitely spongy, they melted effortlessly with every forkful. The harmonious blend of fresh strawberries & nocciolata created a decadent yet balanced sweetness that elevated the dish to an unforgettable finale.
L'Avenue excels in delivering bold flavors, refined textures, & an elevated culinary experience. A truly outstanding establishment.
Probably the best brunch spot I've ever been to. I'd come back to Quebec just for this place! The vibes were fun inside & our waiter was so nice. GET THE LEMON RICOTTA PANCAKES WITH BLUEBERRY COMPOTE! You won't regret it!
les oeufs bénédictines & le pancake au matcha étaient délicieux! Les serveurs sont attentifs & gentils 🫶🏻
Service was horrible, no one checked on us for coffee. Took forever to get our bill. The food was mediocre, but the pancakes were great. This a tourist trap, locals avoid.
Huevos Rancheros were great.
Indecisive Sticky Toffee Pancakes were yummy too.
Shakshuka is my favourite.
I rarely stand in line for a restaurant but since we are on vacation I happily joined the crowd. The big surprise was that this decadent brunch spot was worth the wait. I wouldn't & couldn't eat here often & still fit into my clothes but we all thoroughly enjoyed every bit of our brunch. The service was initially slow in this busy restaurant but once our order was taken the service was attentive & upbeat. The vibe of the place is great with cool design features & great attention to the music. I'd recommend the blueberry pancakes with cream & lemon drizzle & the hazelnut latte.. but leave time for a post brunch nap!
This place is the perfect brunch spot. The'Indecisive' platters help you have a taste of everything, & we thought it was all good. The pistachio cream french toast is incredible, as are their pancakes.
Great food, huge portions. Service was good. I love the race theme of the restaurant very clean.
Comfortable seating. I really enjoyed the Indecisive with blueberry & lemon pancakes. It was all good really.
Food was delicious. Toffee Pudding Pancakes were amazing. Laurie was our waitress & she was great. We did wait an hour for our table but it was worth it. Can't wait to go back.
It's really too bad. My fiance already wrote the place off but decided to give it another try since I wanted the blueberry ricotta pancakes. I had to get up to go ask for a coffee refill, 10m after i had already asked someone while i was seated. His eggs were just about over hard when he asked for over easy. It took forever to get our food. Forever even to stop our waiter to pay our bill. Our waiter said how busy it was the 3x he came to the table. Sure the place was full but there was no line up, they were clearly understaffed for a Monday that most people took the day off. Still... for the price of breakfast these days, it felt like we wasted 60$.
Loved the food at L'Avenue! Went as a party of two around 11 AM & we didn't have to wait very long at all, though we saw larger parties having to wait for a while. Got the Indecisive Sticky Toffee Pudding Pancakes & a latte & both were delicious (the breakfast potatoes & the scrambled eggs were especially good). Highly recommend for a good brunch!
Tl;Dr - Upgrade your Benedict to a French toast base instead of English muffin for only $5, thank me later Just going to start off with, everything we ordered tasted amazing. Came here back in November 2023. We literally took 15 minutes going through the menu because it was so hard to decide what to order, everything looked amazing & sounded amazing. We decided on trying the avocado hummus with braised lamb & pomegranate seeds, a mushroom Benedict, & some pancakes. The hardest thing to decide was which 3 dishes to get, because we are not from Montreal & won't be coming back often. So we wanted to try as much as possible. Luckily, they have an option to switch out the English muffin & upgrade it to French toast for only $5. & yes, I definitely recommend ALWAYS doing that. I don't even like hummus, that dish was supposed to be primarily hers. But she just kept eating the French toast mushroom Benedict, & I ended up having most of the hummus, which was really good, especially for someone who doesn't like hummus. We also love how their potatoes aren't fried. Like 100% of all brunch places in Toronto does fried potatoes, & pretty poorly at that. It was so refreshing to have something different. Every time we go back to Montreal, or even pass by Montreal, this will definitely be a stop we will be making.
Music's too loud. Laurie was an amazing waitress Carrot cake pancakes were delicious but the icing was way too sweet. All in all it was a pleasant experience.
Service was friendly, many options for side dish customization. Large portions, unique French toast & pancake styles were a hit. Smoothies are quite big, but easily shared between two people. Decorations remind you of being in a basement party in the 90's.
Shocked there was no line around the block as we heard so many great things about their food. Rebecca was our server & made excellent recommendations. The Bendictine Truffle Duck Confit was spectacular, the Indecisive Choice with Blueberry lemon pancakes & homemade sausage was delicious. Gordon Ramsey would only say good things about this dining establishment.
