Review Summary

Restaurant Kung Fu is described as a small, cozy, family-style spot with warm, attentive service and strong value, where dumplings, dim sum, spring rolls, and shrimp dishes are praised for freshness and flavor. The food is generally delicious and affordable, with large portions and a wide range of options that make it easy to try several items, though a few dishes are noted as overly salty or garlicky and one beef with broccoli order was criticized for imbalance. Takeout and late hours are common themes, with many reviewers appreciating the convenience and consistent quality across visits, even as some say hours or availability can be unclear. The atmosphere is welcoming and unpretentious, and the staff are repeatedly described as friendly, contributing to a sense of a homey place where regulars would return. Overall, the reviews sketch a dependable budget Chinese option with generous portions and approachable prices, best for a quick and comforting meal, while acknowledging occasional menu gaps or changes that have affected perceptions of quality.

The service was fast, the food was ok. It's not the best Chinese American food I had in mtl. The fried rice was good. The sauce for the general Tao was ok. I'm just not super impressed with this place. I might go back to tried the dim sum.

Service was great. Food... not so much. Ordered beef with broccoli & it's more like broccoli, onion with beef & overpowering flavor of garlic from a jar. It wasn't good at all. Neither of us ate it, we ended up taking it to go & it ended up in the trash unfortunately. The fried dumplings were okay & the prices are reasonable however I won't be returning.

Quite an enjoyable meal! The lunch special offers excellent value-it included a main dish & a choice of soup, either wonton soup or hot & sour soup. The wonton soup featured shrimp wontons, & it was absolutely delicious. I loved the stir-fried beef rice noodles-the flavor was incredible, with perfectly stir-fried ingredients. The fried dumplings were amazing as well. At the end of the meal, they even gave us fortune cookies & fresh orange slices. They also served water infused with lemon, which was a nice touch. Everything was fantastic!

Food was extremely salty for the whole table we were a group of 8 & we all had a bad experience Its too bad If it was not for the hyper salty food it would have been good Fried rice, different kind of noodles Plates went back at least once We had some dietary restrictions & we appreciated that they accommodated everyone with their restrictions

two stars: 1 for service, 1 for price we were 2 ppl & ordered the siu mai, in addition to the wonton soup ($5.50) & cantonese chow mein lunch special ($13.50). the siu mai & wontons were SO small, i was shocked. especially considering the dim sum dish is min. $5.50 & only came wih 4 small pieces. i expected the cantonese chow mein to have crispy fried noodles & instead it was super drenched & soggy with sauce. it had nice presentation (which i didn't get a photo of) with plenty of toppings, but was subpar overall. unfortunately, we do not plan on returning.

Aug 2024: Basic ambiente, food acceptable with concessions. Dumplings okay, but fried tofu nr. 87 comes hard like a grilled bread, with only few vegetables & hardly any sauce. Do not order 87. Sake carafe for 9 CND $ very okay. Food prices in the lower range for Montreal. Therefore restaurant is recommendable, except fried tofu nr. 87... Staff was friendly, no complaints, & gave out wifi password upon request.

Portions & flavour were great for everything I ordered: peanut butter dumplings, Siu mai, fried pork bun, friend pork sticky rice beignets, marinated beef, & ginger chicken. The only comment I'd make is I'd prefer the sauce for the chicken be thicker so that it would stick to the fried chicken.

The service is very friendly & the environment is quite simple & clean. The flavor is of inexperienced poo poo, the fried river noodle is a bit dry & rather bland. Other than that, it's not bad.

we got dimsum combo B, a chicken fried rice + wonton soup, & salt & pepper pork chops. it was $70 total. we were 3 people & we were absolutely stuffed! really good amount of food. dimsum food quality was not the best but i still think it's a great spot for an affordable casual meal

We came for the dimsum but were greatly surprised by the quality of the other dishes! We bought some salt & pepper pork chops, & it turned out to be one of the best we've had. The yang chow fried rice was also very good! The har gow was, however, slightly overcooked, which led to it being a but mushy. The siu mai, on the other hand, was still slightly pink & could be cooked for a little bit longer. Overall, it was a great experience. The food was definitely tasty & very affordable, & the red chicken feet & fried wonton were perfect! The service was fast, the food fresh & the ambiance nice. We will definitely come back to try their other dishes.

Just had dinner at this newly open restaurant with my wife. I used to be a waiter in a similar restaurant back in my days so I ca mn make some comparisons. Portions: We ordered the combo F, which is supposedly for 2 people... we could not go through all the food they brought us! I think it was meant for a family of 4! Service: food arrived a bit too quickly at the beginning (we barely started eating our soup & they started serving the entree), but they readjusted the pace afterwards. Taste: I was surprised at the freshness of the food & it tasted amazing. Among all the plates that were brought, there was the classic general tao chicken. Too often, at least in my taste, there is way too much breading but not in this restaurant! It was light but tasty! Fried rice was also a positive surprise, not too heavy on soy sauce. Overall experience: I highly recommend this place. Small place, sitting for approx 25 people but does not feel cramped. A must try if you are around.
