Although the restaurant wasn't busy & we were seated quickly, the service was off from the start, our three cocktails arrived long after the appetizers, which is such a basic service mishap. The drinks were just okay, & so were the appetizers, nothing memorable. The basil chicken, touted as a special, lacked any real spice & was surprisingly dry. The main courses didn't fare much better as the meat was tough, & the masala wasn't properly cooked, missing that crucial flavor balance. Strangely, we overheard another table also disappointed. Considering the glowing 4.8 rating on Google, it's baffling this felt more like a 3-star experience. Just add a line at the end stating that usually I don't rate the restaurants where I have bad experiences, but seeing 4.8 rating, I felt like it's my moral duty to let people know that this definitely does feel like an organicly gained 4.8 rating.
Only two things are possible: either the locals along with all other high reviewers have an exceptionally low standard for food or they genuinely believe they were tasting great food in which case their taste buds are completely shot. The chicken tikka masala was near inedible & chewy & could not even be cut through & the taste itself was salty & terrible. The paneer laababdar wasn't any better. Do not recommend.
had the butter chicken here - it was really good! Probably the best butter chicken I've had so far 😊
Stopped by due to a strong craving for Indian food. Since we're new to the city, finding parking was our only initial concern. We ordered chicken & methi paneer, & both dishes were really good. The breads were well baked & nicely soft.
The only downside was that no side appetizers like papad or vinegar onions were served with the meal, which we usually expect. Also, the server didn't seem very welcoming or engaging, which made us hesitant to ask questions or seek recommendations.
I got so hyped with this place due to the 4.8 stars & the tons of reviews, but honestly the reviews are probably bought or something
The worker was so nice & talked about it like the best Indian restaurant around.
I paid 30$ for a bol of very ordinary rice, a few spices & pieces of chicken. The dish was absolutely not restaurant level, it could have been okay for a quick take out counter food for 10-15$ tops.
Would not recommend!
Some of the best food I've had in Montreal! We came as a big group for a friend's birthday & our server was very accommodating, even allowing us to split the bill in a bit of a complicated way & double checking to be absolutely sure our friend with a cashew allergy was safe.
The portions were extremely generous too. I ordered the basil chicken tikka (an appetizer, & one of their specials) & it was more than enough for a meal. My friends all got different kinds of curry. Everyone loved their order! The basil chicken tikka was incredibly saucy & garlicky, & just overall delicious. I'll be returning soon for sure!
The food was very good & the atmosphere is nice. I had the butter chicken & murgh Meri Malai. Shaurya gave us great recommendations when ordering & was very nice. I also really liked the Veg Manchurian
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE OR LISTEN TO PAID INFLUENCERS ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE FOOD. I am genuinely surprised at how high rated this place is....It was absolutely not good at all. I got the dum chicken biryani & murgh rajputani. First bite of the chicken biryani & it tasted bitter & definitely NOT fresh. There was more chicken than biryani, & both the meat in biryani & curry were burnt. Murgh Rajputani didn't taste like anything special, & just a regular curry dish. We didn't finish the food told the waiter it wasn't all that good, he offered dessert for free but...we declined because if the food was bad, i doubt the dessert would have been good.
So the wife & I loveeeee Indian, & we are always looking for places that just do it well but also put there own twist on things to elevate it. Here at @rendezvous_indian_bistro I'd have to say it's probably going into my top 3 favourite Indian places in Montreal right now. Its just so different & so much more flavourful then anything I've had in a while, & at the same time sticking to the roots of what make Indian food so delicious.
Like most Indian menus it's quick extensive what they have in terms of choice but if you feel overwhelmed, just ask them for recommendations like we did my buddy & I when we went & they really understood the assignment.
We first got served with the Veg Manchurian which were a light a fried Veg Ball coated in this nice, sweet & tangy sauce. Really delicious first bite. Followed by the Chana Papdi Chaat. Kinda like a deconstructed samosa of sorts as it has almost all the same fillings. But with even more texture with the crunchy toppings. It's always been one of my favorite apps to order when going out for Indian.
Now, I always like to try different stuff then the butter chickens, lamb vindaloos or tikka masala because Indian cuisine is so much more extensive then that. Se we went with a couple of there recommendations.
Murgg Mathi Malai is a Chicken Cashew Cream sauce dish & it's so rich. Similar to a butter chicken but imo a little more depths & complexity behind it. Really a stand alone choice.
Next something I normally wouldn't have gone out of my way for but I'm glad I did, the Bhutta Methi Palek, a vegetarian option filled with sweet corn in a fenegreek & spinach like gravy as they call it. Surprisingly fresh tasting even tho its cooked. Really hardy & full of flavour, I'd go back for this for sure.
Last but not least the 2 standouts of the day, the Dum Chicken Biryani which was freaking amazing. The chicken was so juicy, & the portion size for what you get is insane. You get a little of everything in each & every bite, my favourite biryani I think I've ever had. & then we have the Ragasthani Laal Maas, lamb pieces in a rich & fiery chili gravy with aromatic spices. This plate transcended me!
