Pub Le Sainte-Élisabeth functions as a traditional destination for hearty pub fare and classic comfort food within a distinct historic stone environment. The menu centers on perennial favorites like crispy, beer-battered fish and chips paired with thick-cut fries and tangy tartar sauce. Guests occupy a secluded, multi-level terrace framed by ivy-covered walls or retreat into the cozy, dim interior characterized by wooden communal tables and stone masonry. This establishment prioritizes straightforward culinary preparation that complements an extensive selection of draft beers and seasonal ales. Patrons encounter a robust selection of savory dishes designed to accompany social gatherings and casual conversation. The environment maintains a grounded atmosphere where the focus remains on essential comfort staples served in a functional, unpretentious setting that emphasizes the architecture of the site.

Ordered two $10 drinks & was charged $26... Did not stay for a second drink.

Edit: the amount I quoted was before tip. So you only overcharged by $3 instead of $6. Still not worth a trip back.

like many others, my friends & I had a negative experience here last night because of the owner. We came here with a group of students from all over visiting Montreal for a conference. First, he did not let us have water bottles inside, this is understandable but he was very passive aggressive about something so simple. The owner listed drink options & when we asked to see the menu instead, he looked annoyed. Said to look it up online, where the prices were not listed. When someone asked about the beer available he kept replying in a condescending way. People asked about food & he said'this is a pub not a kitchen' again, you could have just said that there is no food without being rude. While we were there he was weirdly insistent that people ordered more drinks & bar snacks even though some people were not even finished with their first drink. When we said we were splitting the bill instead of one person paying, he immediately brought each of us our bill without us asking for it. Some people were so thrown off by his attitude that they decided to leave ASAP & go to another bar nearby. I understand the importance of tips for service workers, but asking people to leave you a 15% tip for being treated poorly is wild. Your lack of hospitality & manners are bad for your business, people trying to enjoy one casual drink with their friends are not. What is sad is that there were so many of us, had you not been so vulgar we would have stayed & consumed a lot more. I have since been made aware that he was also racist towards our international visitors. You should be ashamed !

Fairly, the beer is okay but the service makes our experience terrible. First, it is not a common practice in pubs in Montreal to ask everyone to pay right away after serving the beer. We requested separate bills, it will be a better experience if the waiter can write down what people have ordered & bill at the end. This is commonly what pubs do, & customers general appreciate that & will leave a good tips. Your practice discourage people to get a second drink. Secondly, the waiter enforced a 15% tips despite what I mentioned in the first point. Tipping is not mandatory, the waiter claims'he has no salary' & was mad when one international friend did not leave a tips. Tipping is not a common culture is every country, as a Canadian, I feel very sorry for my friend being forced to tip as it is not a good experience. It is not right to force someone to tips, unless it is clearly written. Again, the service did not deserve our tips. Third, the'one beer per hour per person rule' is nonsense. It is not a problem if it is clearly written, but we were told after sitting a while, some people had to take their time & not finishing the first beer, that is very awkward. Now, I read this rule from the review, but I have to say this rule is generally not applicable in most pubs/bars in Montreal. There was empty table around, the owner was just trying to kick us out. The table turn-around policy in the previous comments is not valid. I emphasised, the rule is not clearly written & you cannot blame customers for not ordering'enough' drinks. Overall, I do not recommend the experience as the service was harassing. I know the owner always read the comments & I hope you will improve. Please.

Well… I sadly have to edit my review I left 8 months ago. Back then, good impression. Today?… something is up with the owner. I come in with a box from belle pro. Yeah, i'd just been there, gotten some takeout, & wanted to stop for a drink on the way home. Ste-Elizabeth used to be dope. Instead of saying'hey, please don't eat that here or on the terrasse', the guy wants to make money from that. Asking $3!! Bc he thought I was gonna eat my food there!! I wasn't! Lol. Could have asked, instead of assuming.

& tbh… a classy place just doesn't allow outside food, period. But thats my take & preference. I just think it's cheap to squeeze a penny out of every opportunity.

What is less open to interpretation is what came next. I got there late. 2:10 ish. Sat in the nice terrasse only to have this dude pop up on the balcony at 2:25 & legit scream at everyone'you got five minutes to get out'. & proceed to get into a verbal altercation with a small group who felt offended. Wat? I just sat down & you're kicking me out??

Ridiculous. So of course I share my frustration with him.

He's trying to tell me he came there 20 minutes ago & warned everyone. Not realizing that maaaaaybe I wasn't there then?? That I'd just gotten there & barely gotten my drink?!

If you're so frustrated that some of your customers are difficult (pss: they're drunk kids, it's normal), maybe you shouldn't be running a bar. Customer service is hard but also easy. You know the right way to treat people. You just don't have the energy to do it anymore.

Or maybe that's just who you are. Nevertheless, best of luck running an institution.

The bar tenders here are great but the short stubby owner was rude. My friends were drinking & he said I couldn't sit with them unless I buy a drink & then proceeded to assume I don't speak French & talk rudely & down on me to his employees right in front of my face. I wouldn't come here again.

I don't usually leave negative reviews but this place really deserves it. I came in with a couple of friends to watch the game & we each ordered a drink & a bag of chips. Our waitress was very nice, it was apparently her second day & she seemed to be the only one serving all the tables. Everything was going well until the owner asked us if we wanted a refill. We didn't say no, just that we were good for now. I would have been ready to order again later but he said we have to get a minimum of 3 drinks if were want to stay for the whole game. At first we thought he was joking, the bar was far from being full so it's not like we had to vacate our spot. But he was very serious so we simply tried to clarify if it was 3 drinks per person. To which he implied we were dumb for even asking & started ranting on how a business can't make profit if people don't order more for the amount of time we expected to stay (not our problem??), & that people like us should get shot in the head (WHAT, how did it escalate to that??), all while touching my friend without his consent. The interaction on our end was calm, nobody raised their voice, so I don't see how we could have provoked such aggressive statements. We paid & stayed at our table 15 minutes longer so my friend could finish his drink. But I guess paying for one drink instead of three doesn't grant us the right to stay for the entirety of a hockey game, because the owner told us to leave & never come back. At this point, my friend noticed a large group watching us, so he went to ask them if they heard all that. They also had an argument with the owner about the 3 drink'policy' & they came to our defense when he said he'd call the cops on us if we didn't leave & tried to take our picture. You can tell how rude & unprofessional he is just by looking at the immature answers to other negative reviews.

We came in on a Monday night & the bar was almost completely empty. The owner, clearly drunk, gave us a hard time because one person in our group of eight didn't want to get a drink.
