Wonderful find! Friendly & welcoming staff. Food was delicious. We had the grilled octopus & the turbo fish. Both were very tasty & the grilled sardines were delicious. Great house wine too. We will be back! Obrigado!
5 little grilled shrimp around a stack of rice for $34 bucks, eh. The balsamic snails were good, but the grilled sardines were a little fishy & we left hungry. Nice ambiance & service though. From what I hear, family owned.

We had a grand time at Porto Mar. Started with a Porto Tonico, had the cod fritters, the seafood rice & finished it off with flan & a frozen lemon dessert. We loved everything, but we particularly enjoyed the seafood rice as it featured a nice mix of fish & seafood.
Porto Mar is my home away from home. Not only is the service & ambiance TOP, the chef is a brilliant Saucier & cooks meat & fish to perfection. It's one of the cities' best kept secrets!
The fish & seafood rice is amazing. Sort of like a wet paella. The only negative is how uncomfortable the chairs are. Extremely old chairs with springs that are uncomfortable.

Amazing atmosphere & service. My wife wanted a fish dish, & she enjoyed it immensely - obviously their specialty. As a vegan, they were able to prepare a special dish of stir fried vegetables with olive oil - an amazing dish. I love restaurants that can quickly come up with something, & it showed they did it with care - thank you. I finished with a specialty coffee. We will definitely drop in whenever we are in town.
This place was wonderful from the waiter mike to the cook/owner luis alberto Thank you for supporting us & he is he best the service the taste, the service was the best all was the very best... This is the best restaurant in Montreal. It's a must! We came two times within the 5 days of our visit. The fish was fresh & the service was spectacular.
A veritable institution for Portuguese cuisine in Old Montreal, Porto Mar offers all the classics you'd expect. The setting is in keeping with those original stone-brick buildings accented with wood trim offering a somewhat somber moody atmosphere. All very historic! Given the configuration of the room, there are several seats at the front with large windows facing d'Youville street & then a cozy similar sized section in the back (itself divided into two by a walkthrough zone) deep into the brick & old wood look. For our meal we opted for the table d'hote...We started with the Caldo Verde Soup (very good but could have been a bit more flavorful) & the Mixed Salad (it was a mixed salad). For our mains we had the Grilled Half Chicken (very moist & tender meat) & the Fish of the Day - Cod (also very good) with a small serving of potatoes & vegetables on the side. Dessert was a traditional & very good Creme Caramel (Flan) & the Chocolate Mousse (good). Service was friendly & helpful with the meal being served promptly. Enjoy!
I have tried a variety of dishes: calamari, shrimps, & grilled sardines. The sardines weren't fresh enough unfortunately. Which is a risk to take & I was informed that they do not arrive frozen. Small fish is hard to store fresh & taste good only of served on the first 2-3 days after caught. So this one is on me. Calamari was a bit rubbery too. I do need to speak highly of the service though: polite, attentive, & friendly.

We had the most amazing meal! Such fresh fish & the spicy shrimp are amazing! Best deal in the Old Port for price & quality! The Cod & Swordfish were amazing!
One of the best Portuguese restaurants in Montreal. Always consistent in its presentation, quality & service. The fish selection is diversified & appealing.
The location adds to the traditional charm of the restaurant.
Highly recommend this restaurant, we booked because the places in the old town seemed very busy but Porto Mar was a haven of good food & excellent service. We had the set menus, lots of choice we chose fish... sardines, cod & creme brûlee to finish, all delicious & good value
We enjoyed one of the best meals on our 10 day trip through Montreal & Quebec City at Porto Mar. The three course prix fixe meal was the perfect balance with the Portuguese fisherman's stew being an absolute highlight. We also had an excellent Portuguese wine that was recommended by our server since we love Chardonnay & we had difficulty finding that on most Canadian menus or even in liquor stores. Porto Mar has a charming ambiance in old Montreal just off the busy St. Paul street & feel confident in recommending this restaurant.
