Pizzeria Dei Compari is widely praised for wood-fired pizzas with crispy crusts and fresh toppings, generous portions, and affordable prices, along with solid pastas and reliable, friendly service that contribute to a lively, authentic Italian vibe. The atmosphere, decor, and summer terrace are frequently highlighted, as are attentive staff, though crowds can lead to wait times and occasional variability in service. Overall, it is viewed as a top pizza option in Montreal and a good value, with some notes about pressure around tipping, a noisy dining area, or occasional menu items not meeting every expectation. The place remains a popular pick for families and friends seeking hearty Italian comfort food.
Best pizza in town, no joke. They make it in a big fire oven right next to you. You can smell the delicious scent of fresh pizza all through the store. Let me tell you. I'm Italian & I've been to Italy so I know what I'm talking about. This pizza is out of this world. The edges are crisp but tender on the inside with a flavourful dough taste. The toppings are a delectable tornado of flavours no matter the one you pick. The only thing about this restaurant is because of the way it's built the sound reverberates & can become pretty loud if you're sensitive to that like me. But it's worth it for that taste of Italy.
I had a really disappointing experience at this pizza place. The behavior of the staff, especially an older man, was completely unacceptable. We were treated very rudely just because we didn't leave a tip, which should always be optional, not forced.
What made it worse was how disrespectful & aggressive the situation became. It honestly felt like we were being targeted unfairly, & the whole interaction came across as discriminatory & uncomfortable. No customer should ever feel that way while just trying to enjoy a meal.
I would not recommend this place to anyone. Customer service matters, & this place seriously needs to improve how they treat people.
Food was average, but the service was outright unacceptable. The older man working there was rude, disrespectful, & clearly lacked any sense of basic hospitality. His attitude alone was enough to ruin the entire experience.
What made it worse was the way we were treated-we genuinely felt singled out, possibly because we are Indian. The behavior was cold, dismissive, & borderline offensive.
If a restaurant has an issue serving certain customers, they shouldn't be in business at all. Completely unprofessional & not worth visiting.

This was honestly a very disappointing experience. The pizza was decent, but the service completely ruined it. The older man attending customers was quite rude & lacked even basic manners. His tone & behavior made us feel unwelcome throughout.
When we didn't respond the way he expected, he became even more dismissive & blunt, which is something you really don't expect when visiting a place for a relaxed meal. Good food can't make up for poor service, & unfortunately that was the case here.
This experience definitely left a negative impression during our time in Montreal. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're looking for a pleasant dining experience.
Had the worst experience at this pizza place. Food is ok but the OLD MAN who serves at this place has no etiquettes. He knows nothing about hospitality. He specifically asked us to add tip even though we did not like his service & when we refused, he bluntly said'I am not going to serve you again'. I have never been to a place where servers have this much authority to ask for tips despite of their bad service. This totally ruined our experience of visiting montreal. I would recommend not to visit this place ever.
One of the best Italian restaurants with affordable price. Pizzas & pastas are very good! Nice staff. Service is good. They have a small bar with a variety of Italian alcoholic drinks wine, beer, & other drinks. I've been there more than 20 times, never disappoints! A must-try!!!
The food was delicious & the atmosphere was lovely, but the service experience was very uncomfortable as Tips are enforced.
After paying, my server returned to the table to contest the tip amount, insisting on a specific percentage & I felt forced to pay more. I don't mind paying for good food, but being pressured at the table to meet a specific tip quota is a major turn-off.
My wife & I was staying at the Manoir Sherbrooke hotel & as we were checking in asked about food in the vicinity. & the front desk recommended pizzeria dei compari. Coming from Brooklyn it was cold in NY when we left but a little colder here in Montreal. About a 10 to 15min walk we entered & immediately was greeted & enjoyed great customer service. My wife enjoyed the snail pizza escargot & I had the spaghetti & meat sauce tasty! & house wine red great tasting. Highly recommended when in Montreal.
