So I was a little hungry & wanted a quick & easy bite to eat without it being too unhealthy. This place seemed to be reasonably healthy (or not too unhealthy would be acceptable too) with the tiropita & spanakopita options.
So it's small, it's a little cute, & vary like end in its look & feel.
This is not a place one goes for a hangout to me, it's small limited indoor seating & a little larger outdoor terrace is nice but really does not do it.
Service is nice but nothing overly warm or friendly. I went into the restaurant twice & the first time no one acknowledged me. The second time I was actually greeted & served.
The food is average to below average.
They have cookies, baklava, & other sweets & then they offer (on a warming griddle) tiropita & spanakopita. Their price seemed reasonable given the portion size, however once you bite into the spanakopita (which I ordered) its doughy feel & chewy texture was a lacking the traditional crisp & flaky light philo dough. It was too late as I would have sent it back due to this but I was very hungry & didn't want to start a fuss. As I bit into & chewed the spanakopita the seasoning was actually nice, but there was insufficient cheese in the filling & there was not enough filling.
Growing up in a Greek community & having numerous Greek friends with Yayas who cook amazing Greek food I felt the food I ate was a travesty to Greek cuisine & at the price I believe it to be a waste of money. Perhaps a person who lacks knowledge about Greek food may enjoy it more, not me that's for sure.
So they also offer hot beverages & I didn't try them however, if I was forced to come back again I would probably try their coffee & maybe risk a sweet. They only sweet I would not try is their baklava as it was a small little square portion that was presented in a manner that was not appetizing to me - which is sad as I love baklava.
So no I would not return not recommend parroting this place as there are many other options in the area.
Melina's under the quality assurance of Joanna C. is a UNESCO world heritage site, for me. The cute comptoir with the impeccable in-house pastries & meticulous coffees includes 5 staples, which i call my'Mile End Food Groups':
incontournable : iced frappé (aka'summercraque' ) & baklava so good you cry & pump fist into air like winner of game.
essentiels: espresso, classic spinach phyllo (flawless!) & for all seasons:
the iced sablé cookie to ward off the evil eye.

I tried their veggie hummus sandwich which was good but I just wish it had more protein in it. I also grabbed a slice of the baklava (dairy free but uses honey as per staff) & it was worth every bite. My partner grabbed the Spanokopita (feta & spinach phylo pastry) & she said it was amazing.
The only downside to our experience was their small & tight indoor dining area. We ended up knocking over some of our food (their small tables didn't help our situation either). I'd strongly recommend ordering out or possibly eating outside, in front of the Resto where there is a small area to eat.
Pastries are true to Balkan standards! Excellent spanakopita! The roll with potatoes & leeks has the perfect amount of filling. Would definitely go & buy in bulk for a Balkan-themed potluck.
We love our first experience at Melinla's. Very welcoming & excellent service. We enjoyed our coffee & the flaky fresh from the oven spanakopita. A must try when you visit mile end neighborhood in Montreal. I will be posting it on youtube @merichoo. Thank you💕
