Paul Patates reads like a nostalgic Quebec casse-croute with a focus on classic fast food and a strong poutine game. Reviewers praise the poutine for crispy fries, fresh cheese curds, and a rich, well balanced gravy that sometimes carries a touch of sweetness, while the spruce beer is repeatedly hailed as a standout, a signature beverage people seek out, though one review notes it tastes more like root beer. The hot dogs are described as steamed with soft buns and generous garnishes, and burgers are often singled out for juicy patties and toasted buns. The overall vibe is retro and welcoming, with an old school feel and transfixing ambiance for those who appreciate a simple, honest diner experience. Service is quick and prices are reasonable, and many say the place is a must visit for a taste of classic greasy spoon charm, even if fries can be uneven and hours occasionally close early, so checking ahead is advised.
Best overall classic poutine in the city everything is done right, the sauce is neither too thick or runny, nor is it overly salty. Fries have a nice crispness & the cheese is up to standards. Also can't forget the spruce beer. Hidden gem in PSC, wish it was open on Sundays!
One of the best old-school greasy spoons in the city, everything is delicious, & the staff is always friendly. This place has to be one of the few left that still sells spruce beer!
Good quality simple "grubby" type of food. If you're in the mood for a good ol steamy, this place is great or Angus beef burgers, their famous épinette beer isn't for me personally, though the fries I ordered had no flavor to it, they didn't salt it. I don't know if that standard or they just forgot. The inside is cute, it's a time warp. You'll often see older folks in there eating by the counter, they seem to be regulars. You can't replicate that vibe. For take out, I'd suggest getting there 30 mins before closing if you want to order anything otherwise they're cleaning up & you can't order anything.

The hamburger combo + poutine & spruce beer was fantastic. The burger was simple but perfectly cooked. The cheese curds were very squeaky. I really enjoyed the spruce beer, too. Highly recommended for some really good poutine!
Pleasant staff, quick service with a definite 1950's vibe. It's THE PLACE to get genuine spruce beer (perhaps an acquired taste). Street parking is generally available nearby.

What a gem! Come here for the atmosphere at least. You walk through the door & you are transported back in time. The service is super-friendly. Don't expect any frills, just straight forward casse croute food. The star turn here is that they brew their own spruce beer, so make sure you try that. Other than that, just pick a stool at the bar!
