Review Summary

Reviews describe Pâtisserie Mahrouse as a charming hub for authentic Middle Eastern sweets, with an oriental decor that evokes an old Damascene house and a welcoming atmosphere. The menu offers a wide range of traditional desserts, with baklava, knafeh, halawet jibn, kunafeh, and ashta among the standouts, all praised for freshness, flavor and quality. Several readers note generous samples, attentive service, and a vibe that makes it a great spot for friends and family, though a few mention small portions for the price and longer waits during busy periods. The experience is often described as worth the price for the quality, with many calling it a hidden gem and one of the best places for Middle Eastern pastries in Montreal. Occasional comments reference packaging changes and occasional variation between locations and hours, but overall the sentiment is highly positive and urges repeat visits.

Came today arount 4pm. It was complete chaos. No line, no numbers. I waited 20 min before being served. Every customer coming in after me would cut me & be served before me. No manners. The more aggressive & assertive the quicker the service. As a worker finally approached me & started talking to me, an older gentleman cut me off while I was telling her what I wanted & she went on to serving him instead. Got fed up & confronted her for serving everyone else but me. When doing customer service its important to keep an eye on who you see behind the counter first. Many other customers take advantage of your lack of awareness which causes an unpleasant experience for others.

Tried the Middle Eastern breakfast here & really enjoyed it. The place is beautifully designed, the menu is thoughtfully curated, & the food tastes great. Portions are a bit small for the price & waits can be longer during busy times, but it's still a charming spot that's perfect for gathering with friends or family.

The knafeh tastes okay, but the portion inside the cake is too small. It feels more like decoration than filling.

Mahrouseh is truly a gem. From the moment you step inside, you are transported to another time & place. The oriental décor is absolutely mind-blowing-filled with beautiful antique pieces that instantly remind you of an old Damascene house, complete with a charming fountain in the middle. The atmosphere alone is worth the visit.
As for the desserts, the selection is outstanding. They offer a wide variety of traditional Arabic/Eastern desserts as well as Western options, all prepared with exceptional quality & care. The taste is simply amazing. I ordered Halawet El Jibn, a very traditional Syrian dessert made from semolina, cheese, blossom water, & syrup topped with crushed pistachios-& it was perfection. They also serve Kunafeh & many, many other delicious desserts that are hard to resist.
The staff are incredibly friendly & welcoming, which adds even more to the experience. I even asked why they don't open a new branch in BC, & the answer truly impressed me. They explained that maintaining the highest quality is their top priority, & they refuse to compromise by sending their chefs elsewhere-even though they receive requests to open branches in many major cities across the USA & Canada.
That level of dedication says everything. I'm very pleased to have visited Mahrouseh, & it's a place I would happily return to again & again. Highly recommended!

(Almost perfect. Kaake blinked & disappeared.)

Mahrouse Patisserie is a public service. Everything is fresh, everything is good, & the downtown location just saved me a long, emotional drive to Acadie. My gas tank & my mood both say thank you.

I had the knafeh & it was really good. Yes, it's smaller than the Lebanese version we all grew up with. No, I'm not mad about it. Quality is there, flavor is on point, & it clearly knows what it's doing. Very tasty, very satisfying, very'okay fine I'll come back.'

Service? Impressive. Friendly, efficient, & fast, like they know you're there for serious dessert business.

One small comment though… the kaake.
It is tiny. Not'cute' tiny. More like'is this the sample?' tiny. Please make it a bit bigger. I'm not asking for miracles, just something that doesn't disappear in three bites.

Overall, amazing spot, fresh desserts, great service.
