This is a beautiful restaurant, both literally in terms of design & figuratively, in terms of the flavours of the dishes. Everything is well balanced, including the amazing desserts. The music choices are also great with some old Italian songs being part of the rotation. My one nit pick is that some dishes have quite small portions, as it is rare that I leave a restaurant hungry after 5-6 shared dishes. Well worth a visit however!
Recently visited Berto's & although the service & atmosphere were definitely 5 stars, I was a little disappointed with the food. We ordered the un peu de chez moi cheese & meat platter, the crudo, the alla'Finanziera' pasta, & the fish of the day. The cheese & meat platter was good quality but nothing that you can't get at a local Italian market, the crudo was a little bland, the fish was nice, & the pasta was rather underwhelming. It was an offal pasta dish, which I usually love, but the chunks of organs were large in size, so the texture was hard to overcome & the flavour wasn't anything extraordinary. We skipped dessert as we weren't very impressed with the food overall. I do have to say that the cocktails were great & the wine selection was fantastic! Wouldn't go back for dinner but would consider it a nice spot for aperitivo.
We went on a Saturday night for a birthday & the place was exceptional.
Service is stellar, everyone cared beautifully for every single detail which made us enjoy a complete worry-free evening. Every waiter/waitress was respectful, smiling, & kind to us.
We were 4 & ordered about 11 dishes in total. Each dish was balanced in textures & flavors. It's rare, even in the best restaurants, to enjoy everything to a dot, & yet, all four of us had nothing bad to say about Berto.
People mentioning the small portions aren't wrong per say, but with appetizers, main dish & dessert, we were full & satisfied.
Bravo! Nous y retournerons.
The food was exceptional. Incredible precision & execution in every dish, showing refinement, restraint, & incredible care. Delicious. Service was wonderful, the wine list is something else. Isabelle our server was a delight & (also) Isabelle the co-owner is incredibly passionate & knowledgeable about wine. We had a fantastic bottle with our meal. Decor is refined & understated with particularly nice lighting sourced from a number of local Montreal artisans.
Desserts can often be a letdown but here they were as thoughtful & inspired as the main courses. A true gem in Montreal, highly recommend.
The food was traditional & truly authentic, with beautiful seasonal ingredients. The portions were perfect, & the pasta transported me right to Bologna. The tortelli & the Quebec white asparagus were outstanding. & the desserts-wow! The gelato was the closest to Italy I've tasted in Montreal. A truly exceptional experience!
