About

Osmo X Marusan occupies a distinct underground space defined by an industrial aesthetic and a lively, resonant atmosphere. The menu emphasizes Japanese-inspired snacks such as crispy karaage and savory katsu sandos paired with delicate tamago. Guests encounter a selection of matcha and hojicha lattes prepared with deep, earthy tea profiles that balance the bold textures of the food. The venue integrates an expansive outdoor terrace that contrasts with the enclosed, modern interior design. Vibrant musical selections fill the space, contributing to the energetic environment that defines this unique hangout. These features combine to create a singular experience where minimalist architecture meets traditional flavor profiles in an unconventional setting.

Review Summary

Osmo X Marusan is a highly popular, uniquely designed spot in Montreal that blends an industrial, bunker-like aesthetic with a lively, social atmosphere. Guests frequently praise the high-quality matcha, hojicha lattes, and creative Japanese-inspired menu, particularly the various sandwiches and curry dishes. While many visitors find the environment perfect for working or socializing, others note that the space can become extremely busy and loud, occasionally featuring live DJ sets that may not suit those seeking a quiet retreat. Experiences regarding service and food consistency vary, with some patrons describing the offerings as fresh and delicious while others find certain items bland or the wait times excessive. Overall, the location is widely considered a trendy and memorable destination for those who appreciate a vibrant, artsy, and upbeat cafe experience.

Very simple & bad service, it is on for very young people but not very special for that price

The cafe has a nice concept. I tried the famous Tamago Egg Sandwich & chicken sandwich & was quite impressed. The rice curry was not bad. I would probably return when visiting Montreal. Would definitely recommend to my friends to try this place out 🩷👍

My white chocolate hojicha didn't taste like white chocolate but overall it was very satisfying.

I was excited to try the food here since I love Japanese curry, & the sandos looked so tasty in the pictures. I went & tried the katsu curry & the karaage sando. To be fair, the sando was alright. Not the most appetizing cut of the meat, but that may not be a problem for everyone. Now, the curry, however...putting the also unappealing cut of pork aside, the real issue was just how bland the curry was. One of the blandest things I've ever tasted. Absolutely not worth the trip or the money I spent. I've made curry with store-bought curry blocks that tasted way better. Seriously: go to any asian grocery store, buy a box of Glico brand curry blocks, & make your own curry rice at home. It's not that hard to make, & it'll be more flavourful by a mile. Service was good: the staff was polite & friendly. Not much else to say there. As for atmosphere, well, it's loud & not that welcoming. There's an outdoor area that's much quieter, but it's very...I don't know...dingy? It's not landscaped, it's kinda gloomy, the tables are just picnic tables. Though actually all the tables were taken so my friend & I sat at what looked like a defunct bar. Not my scene I guess so giving it a neutral 3-star.

Trendy & busy, but ultimately the pork sando lacked seasoning.
