I've been a regular here for a while & normally the staff & food are exceptional, which makes this hard to write. Tonight, September 16, 2026, around 7:50 PM, I ordered three onigiri for takeout & found a cockroach inside one of them. Photo attached.

If there was a roach in one of my onigiri, I don't know how many others there were, or what the conditions in the kitchen are like beyond what ended up in my food. I wanted to like this place, & I did, but a pest in prepared food is a serious hygiene issue that I can't ignore or recommend past. Posting this so others can make an informed choice. I'd urge management to take it seriously & get their kitchen inspected.

Belle petite découverte sur St-Denis, cette marque s'étend de plus en plus à Montréal suite au succès de son compétiteur dans le métro McGill (le premier à offrir des onigiris à Montréal).

L'entreprise a ouvert 4 emplacements lors de son lancement en 2024 & 6 viendront s'ajouter à ce jeune réseau de franchisés.

J'ai commandé un onigiri au thon épicé & un autre à l'anguille.

Belle portion, plus généreux que dans le métro McGill. Par contre, au goût, un peu moins satisfaisant avec des saveurs un peu moins affirmées, on leur recommanderait de s'affirmer un peu plus en cuisine avec des saveurs nettes & assaisonnées.

Service froid & distant d'un personnel qui doit faire tout, la cuisine & la caisse, alors ceci explique probablement cela.

Pas un endroit qu'on se déplace mais définitivement un dépanneur pratique lorsqu'on veut une option rapide dans ce coin de la ville.

On recommande.

We had been wanting to try Onigiri Shop for some time. We really appreciate that the St-Denis location offers various promotions. It's probably why this location is so well-loved by students & the younger crowd. Here, you order at the counter, receive a pager that beeps when your order is ready, & seat yourself at one of the tables. There aren't too many tables available, however people eat quickly so you shouldn't have to wait more than 15-20 minutes to dine-in. We have tried the classic flavours such as spicy salmon, spicy tuna, Korean fried chicken, & beef miso. Initially we thought 5$ for an onigiri was on the pricier side, however these onigiris are huge, much larger than the standard ones in Japan. We would say two onigiris should be filling enough for one person. The staff was friendly & the onigiri came out fast, within 3-5 minutes. Highly recommend if you're in the area for a cheap, simple, & yummy meal.

This was a truly ideal experience for us. Needed to grab a quick lunch before getting a bus. Combo included a wonderful stuffed Onigiri ( we had salmon, spiced Tuns & miso beef) all were wonderful- miso soup was beautifully balanced-warm mocha drink was so tasty- had coconut milk in it & was served in an insulated cup so it was still warm after 8 min. All plates bowls & utensils were wood so it felt so high quality. Service very pleasant & clear.
Highly recommend!

The shop is simple & no-frills, but clean & comfortable. It wasn't too crowded when I went.

I ordered a Korean fried chicken onigiri & a salmon one. The onigiri are huge, one is already very filling, & two is honestly too much (too good) for someone like me. But they're so good (I cant stop eating). The rice is cooked perfectly: soft, slightly sticky, not dry at all, wrapped in seaweed with a generous filling in the center.

Each onigiri is around $5, which feels very reasonable considering the size. Big, affordable, & satisfying. I also ordered a small ramen with miso broth. It was okay, but the onigiri is really the star here, simple, but peak comfort food.

Orders come out fast, around 3-5 minutes. I've officially become an onigiri addict after this place. Highly recommend if you're visiting Montreal, cheap, simple, & delicious. I'll probably come back a thousand more times whenever I'm in town.

Farshid was so kind & helpful that he accepted, with his team, to prepare my order even though they were about to close. The service was excellent, & everyone was very helpful. Really appreciate the kindness-highly recommended!

For the price, this place is amazing.
Employee professional but friendly, onigiri tasted really good, they are chubby too.
I recommend & will come back!

Great price, great taste, & great service. Some onigiris are brave attempts at reimagining flavors & absolutely loved it. The ramen & miso soup were great too. If you haven't tried yet, highly recommended.

La meilleure place pour manger des onigiris à Montréal.
Je n'ai rien d'autre à dire que c'est simplement délicieux, pas trop cher.
Attention, l'algue n'est pas croustillante mais ce'est pas dérangeant.
Je recommande fortement.

Food price is great especially for the great quality. Fish is delicious. The onigiris are not packed well & often spill out & crumble, much more than at other places. Service is slow but reasonable if it's not during peak hours. I recommend visiting it.
