Review Summary

Ohayo Café appears as a cute, cozy Japanese inspired spot with a calm, bright atmosphere, plants and friendly service. The menu blends cafe drinks with authentic Japanese dishes and is often praised for flavor and execution, from ramen, mazemen and soba to karaage, katsu don, ebi burger, dorayaki and tamago sando. Drinks like hojicha latte, sesame latte, matcha latte and yuzu lemonade receive strong praise, with notes of bold sesame and refreshing citrus. Several items stand out, especially the ebi burger, miso banana bread, and the dorayaki, while a few reviewers mention some dishes can be rich or not for every palate and hours could be clearer. The ambience and staff are repeatedly highlighted as welcoming, making it a go to for a casual visit or weekend treat, though a couple of comments mention price and occasional noise or service inconsistencies. Overall, Ohayo Café is seen as a distinctive Japanese cafe offering quality coffee and inventive comfort foods in a friendly setting, leaving many eager to return and try more.

This Japanese café was beyond my expectations! We had hojicha, café latte, & tamago sando - they were all very good. The service was great too. I can't wait to come back & try the ramen & other items on the menu.

amazing Tamago sando & matcha

We got up bright & early & it was a delightful way to kick off the day! Filled with delicious & tantalizing flavors in an inviting atmosphere.

We couldn't resist trying the beloved Tamago Sando, &, as it turned out, it was an exquisite choice. The dish featured fluffy egg, & the delightful addition of salmon was simply divine.

Equally impressive was the Ebi burger, which was just as incredible & satisfying. We were also fortunate enough to sample the weekend special: the Katsu Sando. It was nothing short of amazing, full of complimentary flavors that came together so harmoniously, showcasing the expert craftsmanship of the chef (whose genius we already knew).

Every drink we ordered was perfection. The sesame latte was creamy & nuanced, while the matcha yuzu lemonade provided a refreshing flourish that balanced the richness of our food.

For dessert, we enjoyed a lovely red bean dorayaki-light, fluffy, & filled with sweet red bean paste; it was lovely.

A fantastic start to the day, with every dish expertly crafted & every sip delightful. We left feeling satisfied & eager to return for more of their innovative & delicious food! 🌟🍽?🍵

staff is very kind & the food was delicious. i had the tomago sando & the chocolatine & both were wonderful. there was some very loud drilling & sparks coming from the back of the restaurant when we were dining in which was a bit loud & annoying.

A bright & inviting café, featuring a creative Japanese-inspired menu. I tried the tamago sando (Japanese scrambled egg on toast)-nice! The coffee was excellent, & the atmosphere makes it a great spot to meet up. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu!

Ohayo café was very nice! They have a lot of options I want to try. Their tamago sando & ebi sandwich were good but not wow. I saw people eating the ramen & it looked really good. I'd definitely try that next time.

I got the matcha yuzu lemonade & the katsu sando. I loved the lemonade, perfectly refreshing. But my sandwich was mostly fat & not meat which was disappointing. & I saw a chunk of red in there as well. I'm sure it's just a mistake, so I'm willing to try the restaurant again but not really open to giving the katsu another go. :(

I went here yesterday &, overall, enjoyed my experience. The cafe is nice, with many people coming in & out. It's a nice place to sit down with a friend or by yourself if you want to pretend to work (but secretly watch people outside). I was here with a few friends & we shared the noodle dish with braised lamb & the Katsu Sando. The noodles were really nice, dressed with a very delicious sauce. However, the lamb was a bit dry for my taste. The Katsu Sando was pretty big, but I wasn't a fan of the horseradish/mustard dressing. I thought the flavor was too strong. The service was courteous, but I didn't feel the warmth of a small place which is usually typical in Montreal, where you can chat with the people working there & learn a bit more about the neighborhood or the restaurant.

A wide variety of set menu items & a constantly changing menu of refreshing specials, with an addition of great coffee, matcha & hojicha lattes. Delicious food, great atmosphere & a beautiful, bright location. On the menu: • Lamb Mazemen: Pulled lamb, black sesame paste, green onions • Soba Tanuki: Ikura, daikon, wakame, shiso • Tamago Sando with Mimolette cheese • Large salad: Green mix, orange, beets, onion vinaigrette (This is a side dish version.) • Yuzu lemonade Instagram: @ohayocafemtl

We wouldn't recommend or go back. Coffee was pretty good, but the food was disappointing even though it was well presented. Ebi burger was subpar & flavours weren't balanced. It was also served with iceberg lettuce that was so wilted that I had to take it out of the sandwich. Tamago sando was also subpar (& not really a sandwich) & didn't taste like the egg salad they serve in Japan. Katsu sandwich was alright with a decent size pork chop but nothing special flavour wise. Overall, pretty expensive for what it is & a lot of the dishes could be improved.

Ohayo Cafe, a quaint new place on Mont-Royal, at the corner of rue de Buillon. Blending japanese ideas with a Montreal feel, they offer a variety of favourites. I had the tamago sando 「タマゴサンド」, which to my surprise was served like the fancy French toast you'd find at l'Avenue not too far away. Served on a pair of crisp golden toast, the egg salad is light & flavourful. Butter hits your tongue, as your palate is flooded with subtle flavours of egg, Dijon, & a marinated Sancho pepper- which comes in its pod, in-lieu of the usual slightly numbing powder you get on an unagi bowl. I ordered the sando with a flat white. The coffee, of course, made with the best-in-class La Marzocco espresso machine, gave notes of the soft cascara of the bean. I'm happy to see that Japan's spirit, in their meticulous quality & attention to coffee, has materialized here as well. In all, the duo came to 17.53$, with a 15% tip the bill for 1 came at 20.15$. Which I find reasonably priced for the quality presented. I have yet to try other items on the menu, but rest assured that whilst enjoying my own, I was witness to a room of people enjoying the rest of the menu. Very clearly enjoying their share.

We were out on a croissant hunting expedition, & needing a fill of a bigger fill, we were driving along Mt. Royal, & came across this little lovely pleasant place. Service is excellent -- except it's not table service -- it's order at the counter, pay & you get a post with a number for delivery of your meal. Food is really interesting, a bit of a Western take on Japanese food. We had a tamago sando, & I was expecting a tamago, but instead it was an equally interesting delicious deconstructed egg salad. That, & a great chicken karaage. Would I go back -- 100%.

Came for a quick lunch & tried the tamago (egg salad) sando w/ mortadella. It was crazy good. Already looking forward to coming back to try everything else.
