One of the best coffee shops of 2024 in Montreal!
I was delighted to see reviews like Tastet praise this incredible Japanese coffee shop!
Let's give a breakdown of each aspect of the coffee shop:
Food: From the Mazemen to their ramens, there is a little bit of everything! Their kitchen usually opens at 10:30 am EST. This does not mean that you shouldn't pass by!
In fact, the whole point of this review is to explain how good the coffee & the food are !
I am quite the cortado lover & it is incredible how they are able to take such care of each coffee. Their matcha is definitely worth it & I would invite everyone to give this a go! One of my favorite coffee shops in Montreal is September café because of their consistency & each barista being skilled with making precisely every kind of coffee. This is a coffee shop that is quite close in terms quality of coffee that September café makes.
Which brings me to the food! This is such a delight & it feels like I've gone back to Japan all over again! Rich, comforting! Their dishes are something that I can continue eating all day long especially the mazemen. I strongly recommend trying each of their dish!
Atmosphere: calm, welcoming, peaceful & beautiful! This is the kind of coffee shop that makes you want to stay long hours & enjoy the vibrant & serene place! This is feels like a coffee shop in Copenhagen.
Service: this is where they stand out from most! Incredibly kind, caring & focus, each coffee & meal is being cared for. The owner is incredibly kind & knowledgeable when it comes to coffee (grains, technique & other topics). This is the kind of coffee shop where I would love a James Hoffman to pass by & drink their coffee.
I strongly recommend this Japanese coffee shop!
If you don't believe me, I invite you to read up on food critics like Tastet to see what they think! 😄

Love coming here for coffee & read, or for their tasty lunch. Their big windows let you enjoy the sun outside.View more
A bright & inviting café, featuring a creative Japanese-inspired menu. I tried the tamago sando (Japanese scrambled egg on toast)-nice! The coffee was excellent, & the atmosphere makes it a great spot to meet up. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu!View more
Ohayo Cafe is really nice place! I've been there several times, from working to just share a coffee with good company. I strongly recommend this place. Service is also great! They are kind & prepare your food/order really quick... I like a lot this placeView more
Not a specialist coffee place, but they have the best espresso I've tasted in Montreal, plus super-friendly staffView more
This has become my new favorite coffee spot. I found at the beginning the coffee was too bitter but the new full time barista, Soma, makes the coffee perfect! The cortados are on point! Well done with the concept, great addition to the neighbourhood, friendly staff, great service, quality food. Wishing you all the success.View more
A wide variety of set menu items & a constantly changing menu of refreshing specials, with an addition of great coffee, matcha & hojicha lattes. Delicious food, great atmosphere & a beautiful, bright location. On the menu: • Lamb Mazemen: Pulled lamb, black sesame paste, green onions • Soba Tanuki: Ikura, daikon, wakame, shiso • Tamago Sando with Mimolette cheese • Large salad: Green mix, orange, beets, onion vinaigrette (This is a side dish version.) • Yuzu lemonade Instagram: @ohayocafemtlView more
Excellent coffee, in one of Montreal's coolest neighborhoods! I look forward to trying the rest of their menu. I wish that they offered stevia sweetener for my coffee. The service was okay, but could use a smile or two.View more
We wouldn't recommend or go back. Coffee was pretty good, but the food was disappointing even though it was well presented. Ebi burger was subpar & flavours weren't balanced. It was also served with iceberg lettuce that was so wilted that I had to take it out of the sandwich. Tamago sando was also subpar (& not really a sandwich) & didn't taste like the egg salad they serve in Japan. Katsu sandwich was alright with a decent size pork chop but nothing special flavour wise. Overall, pretty expensive for what it is & a lot of the dishes could be improved.View more
went pass this cafe for a quick coffee, then saw the menu & ordered the pancake, taste amazing!View more
Easily accessible place on the Mont Royal Avenue, steps away from the metro station. The food was disappointing & below average, I didn't like the chicken burger at all as the chicken felt undercooked. This place is kind of a resto café but I think it's better to go there for just a coffee. When the place is crowded the noise is unbearable.View more
Love this new little resto-café! The food was so delicious, rich & filling. Highly recommend the shrimp burger & the ramen! Their coffee was also good. Just a heads up, if you're planning to go on the weekend, either go before noon or later in the afternoon due to limited seating capacity. Really enjoyed our first visit overall & will definitely be back!View more
Ohayo Cafe, a quaint new place on Mont-Royal, at the corner of rue de Buillon. Blending japanese ideas with a Montreal feel, they offer a variety of favourites. I had the tamago sando 「タマゴサンド」, which to my surprise was served like the fancy French toast you'd find at l'Avenue not too far away. Served on a pair of crisp golden toast, the egg salad is light & flavourful. Butter hits your tongue, as your palate is flooded with subtle flavours of egg, Dijon, & a marinated Sancho pepper- which comes in its pod, in-lieu of the usual slightly numbing powder you get on an unagi bowl. I ordered the sando with a flat white. The coffee, of course, made with the best-in-class La Marzocco espresso machine, gave notes of the soft cascara of the bean. I'm happy to see that Japan's spirit, in their meticulous quality & attention to coffee, has materialized here as well. In all, the duo came to 17.53$, with a 15% tip the bill for 1 came at 20.15$. Which I find reasonably priced for the quality presented. I have yet to try other items on the menu, but rest assured that whilst enjoying my own, I was witness to a room of people enjoying the rest of the menu. Very clearly enjoying their share. 成功を祈っているよ。View more
