🌟 What an unforgettable night for my 32nd birthday! 🎉🎂

My partner & I had the absolute pleasure of experiencing the 16-course omakase at Nama with the incredibly talented Chef GaCong Ruan - & let me tell you, this was nothing short of magical. 🍣🍷

I've had the privilege of dining at some of the finest restaurants around the world, & Nama has officially earned a spot in my Top 3 Japanese culinary experiences. I'm genuinely confident this gem 💎 is on its way to a Michelin star - they wholeheartedly deserve it. 🌟🇯🇵

From the mesmerizing music 🎶 to the elegant & intimate atmosphere ✨, every detail sets the stage for a deeply immersive dining journey. The sake & wine pairings were divine 🍶🍷, enhancing every dish with thoughtful balance. Each course was a showstopper - layered, surprising, savory, & absolutely unforgettable. I couldn't even pick a favorite because every single plate was a masterpiece 🔥

But what truly stood out? The passion ❤?, precision, & professionalism that Chef GaCong brings to every bite - all brought to life by the warm, attentive Nama team who made sure our celebration was topped with surprising & caring touches from start to finish. 🙏

The energy at Nama is inspiring, & the attention to detail is simply unmatched. If you're even thinking about it - don't hesitate. I recommend this experience 110% & cannot wait to go back again (& again!) 💯🙌View more

The meal at Nama offered moments of promise, notably the well-cooked but overly sweet Miso Black Cod & attentive, knowledgeable service in an elegant setting. However, execution was inconsistent: the Octopus Leg was dry & flavorless, the Halibut Beurre Blanc was overcooked & poorly balanced, & the $60 Nigiri Omakase lacked standout quality to justify its price. The sake selection also underwhelmed, leaning unexpectedly sweet. Despite its upscale ambitions & strong presentation, Nama fell short of delivering value or consistency, especially compared to other high-end Japanese restaurants in Montreal.View more

5 stars - An Exceptional Omakase Experience

Nama Omakase delivers an unforgettable dining experience from start to finish. Every dish was beautifully plated & thoughtfully crafted, showcasing top-tier ingredients & inspired flavor combinations.

We started with the Scallop Leche de Tigre-Japanese scallop with pomegranate, avocado, shiso, & lemon. Bright, fresh, & incredibly well balanced. The Ora King Tartare with ponzu, wasabi, & watermelon radish was equally stunning-delicate but full of personality.

The Soft Shell Crab was a standout-crispy & rich, served with kimchi, cucumber, salmon roe, & an indulgent spot prawn bisque. The flavors were bold but refined.

We finished with a 12-piece sashimi moriawase & 6-piece nigiri omakase-impeccably fresh fish, perfect rice, & elegant presentation. Every bite was close your eyes heaven.

Service was excellent-attentive, knowledgeable, we arrived really early (5:30pm because we had a show to get to on a Monday night, so despite look was sleek & intimate, making it perfect for a special night out, it wasn't busy. The staff mentionned that we were in fact early

Highly recommended for anyone looking for a next-level omakase in Montreal.View more

Fantastic omakase tasting menu with a mix of Japanese sushi/sashimi & French influences. All the seafood was beautifully aged & super high quality. The seafood was melt in you mouth delicious. Wagyu was great, but the duck was even better. Good cocktails as well. The price reflects the quality, but good things in life are worth a little splurge.View more

This is a high-end modern French & Japanese fusion cuisine. The nigiri omakase at lunch was exquisite, the rice was perfect & each fish had a different flavor profile. The highlight for me was the soft shell crab dish, it was excellent, especially the little dabs of lemon/lime gel, blending everything perfectly with the sauce & tying the dish together harmoniously. The restaurant is led by chef-owner GaCong Ruan, who grew up in the restaurant industry, & executive chef Michael Ho, a finalist from'Les Chefs!'. We were lucky to be greeted by them both today! Perfect for special occasions, business dinners or just a quick lunch or late evening craving for high quality sushi... this is the hot spot to go to.View more

There's a very popular Omakase restaurant in Montreal & I always found it a shame that we didn't have more of those experiences. A friend of mine told me about Nama having an Omakase experience & I had to check it out. I'm glad to say that everything about it was fantastic. It's a little more "fusion" then pure Japanese cuisine, but all the meals were great. I highly suggest trying it out if you love trying course style dinner experiences. If you just want a regular dining experience, there's tables & a menu for that as well. A couple of small nitpicks compared to the other Omakase restaurant in MTL: they had us wait before being seated despite us arriving on time, they didn't offer to take our jackets (which can add a little touch of extra service) & they mentioned a cocktail menu, but we never saw/received it. That being said, I want to give a HUGE shoutout to the chef & his team as at the very last minute, I found out that my date was allergic to wheat flour (similar to having to avoid gluten, but she was ok with soya sauce for instance) & initially the waiter said she couldn't get the Omakase & could only eat 2-3 meals in the regular menu. The chef then personally came to our seats to discuss in detail about her allergies & luckily she could take the Omakase thanks to the cuisine substituting 3 dishes just for her. Thank you again Nama for the wonderful dinner & I'll be sure to come back again!View more

Effervescent energy for my Omakase sushi experience by chef GaCong. Very intimate experience at the bar, amazing service with a smile from the host, waiter & chef. Superb selection of fish, great pacing & the Japanese & French fusion produce an elevated experience. My stand out dishes were the salmon tartare, akami with Osetra caviar, Suzuki, monads & the sake kasu dessert is a unique experience. It was distinguished experience meeting the team & the chefs, even got to meet executive chef Michael Ho!View more

This place is exceptionnal from the atmosphere, food & perfectly taylored service. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you can feel that the atmosphere is really cozy. For the food, the sashimi & nigiri (with fish outsourced from japan) are a must. There was no choice of fish that seemed out of place & they all work in harmony with the freshness that is just on par! For the entree, the brussel sprouts & eggplant katsu are unique & provide a complex but yet easy to appreciate taste. To add to the french gastronomy part, we had the duck & apricot & it was amazing. The meat was cooked to perfection & ressemble to the taste of a well prepared steak. For the service, our waiter was always with us to make sure that it all went well & gave great recommendations as well! This place is a must in the restaurant scenery of montreal for everything that is mentionned aboved & if you seek a new type of experience where a japanese omakase is paired with french gastronomy, this IS the place.View more

Wow, what an unforgettable culinary experience! I had the pleasure of dining at Nama Omakase last night, & it truly exceeded my expectations. The moment I walked in, I was struck by the elegant ambiance & impeccable service. We had the pleasure to be sat at the bar & be served by the Chef Ga Cong for the tasting menu. But the real magic happened when the food arrived. Each dish was a masterful fusion of Japanese & French flavors, with bold & unexpected combinations that somehow worked perfectly together. The aged fishes were out of this world. Chef Ga Cong's attention to detail & presentation was stunning, with each plate looking like a work of art. Overall, Nama Omakase is a must-visit for any food lover looking to try something new & exciting. This isn't your traditional Japanese Omakase. The chefs creativity & skill are truly remarkable, & the service is top-notch.View more
