On Tuesday July 9, 2024, my wife & I had a reservation at the restaurant Mechant Boeuf in Vieux Montreal. We went there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had a great table right in front of the windows, which were open as the weather was so warm & pleasant. The service by our waiter Nolan was nothing short of perfect! His wine suggestion went perfectly with our supper. We had a calamari appetizer which was crispy & hot. We both had ribeye steaks which were cooked exactly how we requested, served hot & they were delicious & tender!! We took a side of French Fries with one & a green salad with the other. The salad had a really tasty dressing!! A side of mushrooms, which were out of this world, was the perfect accompaniment! The steaks came with a nice selection of vegetables. We found that the restaurant had suffered a bit with food quality & service following Covid (as did many). I am happy to state that under the leadership of the General Manager Laurent Plantavin, they are back to the high standard of quality that had made Mechant Boeuf one of our go-to restaurants for special occasions with family & friends. We will be back to celebrate at this fine restaurant again!!View more
Nous avons eu un serveur qui semblait peu familier avec la routine du restaurant,il a commandé nos plats mais il semble que le bon a été perdu dans la cuisine!Donc bref l'attente fut longue car le temps de réaliser que nous n'avions pas reçu nos plats cela faisait au moins une bonne heure & demie que nous attendions! heureusement le dj avec un peu de bruit de fond a pu nous faire patienter!points positifs les petits pains chaud délicieux le tartare de boeuf exquis & tagliatelles au fruits de mers excellent!Un gros merci à Simon le gérant qui a été transparent avec nous & nous a expliqué la situation,remplis nos verres de vins,offert deux entrées, des macarons & un shooter!ces petites attention ont été très appréciées .je recommande ce restaurant car malgré cette petite bévue nous avons bien mangés & remarqué l'effort du gérant de vouloir satisfaire ses clients & ça selon moi c'est très important & cela démontre de la classe!un client satisfait en vaut deux!Merci Simon à la prochaine!View more
My mother & I came here from the US for my 31st birthday & stumbled upon this great steak house ! Jerome was our server & he was amazing! the mashed potatoes came out a little cold & he accommodated us with a fresh batch with a little extra something on top, an egg yolk! it was delish & if we ever come back to visit canada we will definitely be coming back here. thank you Mechant Boeuf & thank you Jerome!View more

So much potential & yet such a disappointment. I rarely write negative reviews but this experience was unfortunately quite deserving of one. The establishment & atmosphere are lovely, so we were expecting a great food experience to go with it. As you can see from the pictures, the presentation was gorgeous. But I was thoroughly shocked at how tough my steak was when cutting into it. To top it off, although it looked perfectly cooked at medium rare, it ended up tasting & feeling like it was well done. The potato puree was like a heavy glue & for some reason, was served on top of most of the vegetables. It's only after taking a few bites that I noticed I had more vegetables on my plate. My partner's steak was a little more tender but thoroughly flavorless. The best part of the meal was the oysters. They were perfect. But really, what topped it all off was the disappointingly bad service provided by Emilie. It started off well enough, but when I politely asked for an extra minute to decide what to pick, this seemed to have made her mad. She threw up her hands & walked away. My partner & I looked at each other, quite confused as to why that didn't go over well. The rest of the "service" was a combination of almost non existent & cold. Considering we were about to pay over $200 for a bad food experience, this really made me angry. Sadly, I definitely can't recommend Le Méchant Boeuf.View more
I brought my wife here for our 5th anniversary, I made a reservation online & mentioned it was to celebrate our anniversary. The shift supervisor greeted us with complimentary champagne & thanked us for choosing Mechant Boeuf for our celebration. The service was fantastic! The atmosphere - we went on a Sunday at 4pm (playoff game to watch at 6pm otherwise we would have went later) & it was practically empty, which was great for us. Can't stand loud places, but I did notice it filling up a bit when we were leaving. The food I'd honestly have to say was good, but nothing over the top...mind you the filet mignon was AMAZING! It did take quite some time for them to serve the course, which I did inquire about after some time, & the waitress told me she had been putting pressure on the cooks....I would have liked for her to notify us that she was doing this because I felt bad for asking. I asked for an all dressed baked potato which they didn't have in stock but then they managed to put ingredients together to make one. This impressed me for their service, but it did taste like it was whipped up at the last minute. So thanks for amazing serviceView more

Nous étions installés au bar, le barman Clément était super, nous a fait découvrir de nouvelles saveurs dont un expresso martini a tombé (pour ma part) Mon copain & moi étions venus boire un verre & en voyant la carte nous nous sommes laissés tenté par des plats à partager, vraiment très bon. Visited Merchant Boeuf recently & had an exceptional dining experience! We indulged in two poutines with succulent beef brisket, which were absolutely delicious - the perfect blend of crispy fries, savory gravy, & tender brisket. The Méchant burgers we ordered were also a hit, juicy & flavorful, easily some of the best we've had. The spicy chicken sandwiches were another highlight, packing just the right amount of heat & taste to leave us thoroughly impressed. Beyond the food, the cocktails were a standout. L'endroit est magnifique, l'ambiance feutrée & chaleureuse est parfaite pour un bon repas romantique. La musique tendance & le bar nous offrent par ailleurs l'opportunité d'y passer une soirée branchée entre amis. Le service est impeccable. Si je pouvais mettre 6 étoiles je le ferais à ce niveau! Les mocktails sont vraiiiiment bon! À essayer 🍹 J'ai été un peu déçu toutefois en ce qui concerne la cuisine. Nous avons tenté la table d'hôte à prix réduit pendant l'événement Happening gourmand du Vieux Montréal & nous avons trouvé que nos assiettes reflétaient malheureusement la réduction. Les saveurs étaient toutefois là, c'était goûteux & les cuissons parfaites, sauf pour les frites de mon steak frites où elles étaient un peu dures, comme cuites puis réchauffées 😑. Mon contre-filet était malheureusement possédé par une bonne grosse veine de gras dur & désagréable qui fait crunch lorsqu'on le croque. Est-ce la normalité pour un contre-filet? Je prends habituellement du filet de boeuf alors je ne serais me poser en expert en contre-filet. La sauce béarnaise était divine! Enfin, j'aurais ajouté quelques petits légumes à cette assiette un peu triste 😢. Pour ce qui est du suprême de volaille & de gnocchis, la viande était tendre & juteuse & les gnocchis très bons. Néanmoins, le poulet manquait le petit kick de saveur espéré à la lecture du menu. Les desserts étaient bons, en particuliers les profiteroles. Bref, un endroit où nous en avons eu pour notre argent, mais sans plus au niveau de la cuisine mais qui a surpassé nos attentes en ce qui concerne le service d'exception auquel nous avons eu droit.View more

Opting to dine on a Monday night, we found the dining room unusually quiet, with only a handful of patrons seated at the bar. Our hostess & waitress proved to be attentive professionals. The service was impeccable from the start, with a warm attitude & thoughtful recommendations. We kicked off the evening by savoring a delicious Amaretto Sour, my personal favorite, & the Feeling Spicy, a bold concoction of Hennessy VS cognac, lemon juice, bitters, & lavender syrup. The cocktails were well-balanced, leaving a positive first impression. As for the appetizers, the pork dumplings were satisfactory, though their likely frozen origin was discernible. In contrast, the beef tartare was a pleasant surprise, generously portioned & tastefully seasoned. For the main courses, we opted for the NY strip steak with pepper sauce, accompanied by Monte Cristo potatoes, & the ribeye steak. The dishes were flavorful, well-prepared, & featured generous portions. The quality of ingredients & culinary expertise shone through. However, the experience was marred by the noisy ambiance created by patrons at the bar. Their boisterous behavior, with no regard for the tranquility of others, could have been better managed by the restaurant staff. Unfortunately, the servers did not take initiative to address the noise, negatively impacting our overall enjoyment of the evening. Despite this drawback, Méchant Boeuf remains a recommendable spot for its enticing flavors & professional service. I would suggest, however, carefully choosing the timing of your visit to avoid a overly loud atmosphere, especially if you seek a more serene & intimate dining experience.View more

Mechant Boeuf had a nice atmosphere & a beautiful bar. They had a nice oyster & wine happy hour (5 á 7) special that caught our attention. For what it's worth, there were no sand, rocks, or other debris in our oysters.
The faux filet was a great choice & was cooked to perfection, & the service was good!

I absolutely loved my evening at Méchant Boeuf last night! Great service from start to finish, ambiance was vibrant on Wednesday with a pretty great DJ. Started off with oysters & octopus from the raw bar, loved it! I'm quite a fan of octopus dishes so whenever I see one I have to try, & I was pretty impressed. Next was the calamari (perfectly seasoned) & the wagyu beef mini burgers, so tasty! The braised beef poutine is a must for poutine lovers. My friend had never tried poutine before, I don't think it'll be his last now. For the carnivorous folk, we had a medium-rare hanger steak & it was just perfect. Definitely a steakhouse to try in old port!

Ensuite, Alex, notre serveur nous a super bien reçu & nous a très bien conseillé toute la soirée. on a prit les huitres pour commencer & le poulet sur la canne de bière par la suite. Miam ! For a resto called Mechante boeuf, there's not much of a selection in the way of beef dishes....qhich isn't necessarily a bad thing..& you would expect a large variety of beef burgers, but was surprised at the limited selection..two(2). & it has blue cheese...which I failed to notice, oh well my fault.. but Meh!!Nothing to write home about. & at $19 pretty unimpressed... a lot better & cheaper burgers could be had elsewhere in this great city... just my humble opinion
Oh yeah... & serving a $ 9 tepid beer in a bland non-descript Bock glass... kinda cheap & low class..should be served in a pint glass...

L'ambiance est vibrante, bonne musique & bon choix au menu. J'y suis allee avec des amis pour un anniversaire & en tant que vegetarienne je n'avait qu'un choix de plat, le vege burger. Il etait mediocre, mais je comprend que c'est un endroit peu propoce a recevoir des gens veges comme moi.
Mes camarades ont aimé leur experience mais ont été decus du tartare de boeuf, qui laissait à desirer.
Bref, l'ambiance est bonne, mais la nourriture pourrait etre meilleure au prix payé.
