Hidden in an industrial area near the Lachine Canal, McKiernan is a true hidden gem by the team behind Joe Beef.
Don't be fooled by the low-key entrance - inside is a warm, plant-filled space with beautiful natural light & high ceilings. Perfect for brunch, solo time, or a relaxed hangout with friends.
Today's special was a perfectly cooked medium-rare beef with fresh greens - incredibly tender & flavorful. The crispy Brussels sprouts were addictive, like snack food. The rigatoni was rich & satisfying (though not spicy as described).
The cutlet reminded me of a thick, crispy Shanghainese fried pork chop - so good. I also saw someone use hash browns as burger buns with fried chicken… genius idea I'll try next time!
Dessert was a surprise hit - a blueberry cheesecake donut that was juicy & light, not overly sweet. The orange blossom mocktail had a unique Jo Malone-style aroma - floral & refreshing (but wish it came in a bigger glass!).
Friendly service, no rush vibes, way more comfortable than noisy downtown spots. I'll be coming back again & again to try more!View more

I had a delightful lunch during the weekday. Beer (IPA, lager) consumed with roast beef sandwiches & side order of fries. Finished with expresso & shared Boston cream donut made on-site. The food was tasteful, & the service was prompt & excellent. Great decor with luncheon menu to match. It's a little pricy but worthy if looking for something different.View more

To say I'm impressed with this place is an understatement!!! Have been 3 times now & each time as exquisite as the last. Yesterday we had the breakfast schnitzel, the chicken salad sandwich special, the hash browns, coffee & a donut & holyyy. Absolutely fantastic. The service is great there, the coffee is strong, the interior is beautiful with a ton of natural light & the high ceilings are great. Over 10/10 breakfast spot & I'm not sure I'll ever come to Montreal again without going here for brunch before we leaveView more

Went on Friday night at 10 ish. Service & food was amazing. We had a variety of dishes to share & everything was delish. Do not skip out on the Brussels sprouts & ribs! Delicious menu except for their ribs, it's dry & nothing special. Also, the portions are small. As for their brunch, the quiche is excellent while pancakes & hash brown double down could've been executed better. They are very sweet due to an overload amount of maple syrup. On the contrary, their donuts are not, very good..just right amount of flavor, texture, & fillings.View more

The owner is smart & generous to invest on staffing. As soon as you empty the plate, there is either a bus-boy/girl or waiter/waitress removing the plate. *The only tiny detail the bus-boy/girl need to pay attention is to ask customers if we still need utensils on the plate. If you decide to take away our utensils, please offer to give us a new set. Thank you. Our waiter is friendly, good in explaining the menu, great presence without pressure. Food is above average. Price is reasonable. *Homemade vanilla ice-cream is Blend. *Both Homemade donuts are very good. *Homemade rosée sauce is very good. Great distance between tables, very roomy. Vintage Wooden floor compliments well with the overall decoration. It was a great experience overall.View more

This was our first time visiting Montreal & we were so happy to have made it into McKiernan. Everything about our dining experience was perfect - the stunning & super welcoming space (we LOVED the open floor concept, loads of natural light, thoughtfully curated art/decor/plants, etc), the exceptionally friendly & knowledgable staff (a huge shoutout to Alex - one of the best servers I've ever had - & Rob for their top notch service), &, of course, the variety of incredible dishes we enjoyed (the cucumber/green goddess/ricotta salata special, schnitzel bomba, & blueberry/cheesecake-filled donut were the highlights of the meal). If you're looking for a casual yet elevated dining experience for a date, family dinner, or group outing, McKiernan should be at the top of your list. Went there May 18th 18h00 0 parking spaces available Great big spacious restaurant No air conditioning on the hottest day Great big windows that cooked us while we ate Because we were a group we were served all the same food 6-7 dishes. I liked the noodles, everything else not to my taste. For dessert they put a large plate of donuts! The food was good, but the portions were a bit small. Our server finished their shift so a new server was assigned to our table, but they took forever to came to us. The donuts were pretty good, & I really like the atmosphere! The decor was also really cute. Please note, they don't accept outside food!View more

2022: Delivery: rapini pesto lumache was really good but more as a side dish since the rapini is so intense. White tuna was perfect. Not what I was expecting at all but the large pieces were very well flavoured & presented. Cauliflower was tasty but when they literally give you the whole head of cauliflower not just pieces. Definitely a good portion & the mushrooms mix was great, but not exactly the easiest to eat. The chicken croquette wasn't that great since chicken doesn't make good filling in general but it was nice & crunchy on the outside. Donut was delicious. Pineapple cake was good.
