Hidden in an industrial area near the Lachine Canal, McKiernan is a true hidden gem by the team behind Joe Beef.
Don't be fooled by the low-key entrance - inside is a warm, plant-filled space with beautiful natural light & high ceilings. Perfect for brunch, solo time, or a relaxed hangout with friends.
Today's special was a perfectly cooked medium-rare beef with fresh greens - incredibly tender & flavorful. The crispy Brussels sprouts were addictive, like snack food. The rigatoni was rich & satisfying (though not spicy as described).
The cutlet reminded me of a thick, crispy Shanghainese fried pork chop - so good. I also saw someone use hash browns as burger buns with fried chicken… genius idea I'll try next time!
Dessert was a surprise hit - a blueberry cheesecake donut that was juicy & light, not overly sweet. The orange blossom mocktail had a unique Jo Malone-style aroma - floral & refreshing (but wish it came in a bigger glass!).
Friendly service, no rush vibes, way more comfortable than noisy downtown spots. I'll be coming back again & again to try more!View more

This place is much larger than I expected, it has room for large groups & a varied menu. I had the chicken & I must say, it was just ok, not really something I would come back for but it is suppose to be one of their specialties. The side beet & grapefruit salad was quite good, but again, nothing to really rave about. The service was nice & the prices are reasonable. The biggest issue is the location, it is quite far from public transit, so not worth the long trek for me.View more

Unfortunately, we were disappointed. One of the signature dishes, the roast chicken is dry & overcooked. It also takes an extremely long time for it to be served. Service is functional but did not feel warm. Service was also very slow.View more

To say I'm impressed with this place is an understatement!!! Have been 3 times now & each time as exquisite as the last. Yesterday we had the breakfast schnitzel, the chicken salad sandwich special, the hash browns, coffee & a donut & holyyy. Absolutely fantastic. The service is great there, the coffee is strong, the interior is beautiful with a ton of natural light & the high ceilings are great. Over 10/10 breakfast spot & I'm not sure I'll ever come to Montreal again without going here for brunch before we leaveView more

We ordered a spread of different things. The rolls & rotisserie chicken was great but everything else wasn't anything special. The raspberry lemonade tasted watered down (or tasted like there was barely any sugar) it was more like flavored water. The service on the other hand was top notch & worth mentioning!View more

Great great food. We took a lot of things on the menu. I strongly recommend the rotisserie chicken, the schnitzel, the brussel sprouts, the salad with pumpkin seads & the pasta with zucchini. All of those were fabulous! French fries were dry & uninteresting. The eggplants were lacking salt & spices. The drinks were ok nothing more to my taste. The restaurant looks very cool, it's friendly & trendy. The staff is very nice & kind. I would go back.View more

Came here for dinner & had a fantastic meal! We got the Moscow mule & Bloody Caesar for drinks. Started the meal with a tomato salad from their daily specials & the zesty Italian beef tartare. The tomato salad had pine nuts, basil & a delightful dressing. The beef tartare was served with endive & so delicious! We got the honey garlic spare ribs, rotisserie chicken Alexandre & fries to share. The spare ribs were so tasty - sweet & sticky. The rotisserie chicken was so good!! The sauce was so savoury - would highly recommend the rotisserie chicken & the beef tartare! The fries were shoe string cut, nicely seasoned & came with a Dijonaise. The staff were all extremely attentive & service was amazing! The restaurant space is so open & spacious. It has a great vibe. The string lights were a nice touch. They have plants everywhere - I loved it all! They also have a foosball table near the bathrooms & people were actually playing. Would highly recommend!View more

This restaurant was a great vibe. The decor & ambiance is awesome; modern yet still respecting the history of the building. For it's location, parking is surprisingly simple with a lot & attendant. Free for restaurant go-ers! Drink service was very slow. Some of us not receiving drinks (glasses of wine) until after food was already at the table. Not sure if this is a server issue or a logistical issue. The food is delicious & very shareable. Rolls & deviled Brussel sprouts are a must! The signature chicken is every bit the star. All in all, I can't wait to go back & experience McKiernan again & again.View more

Had high hopes- was disappointed. The rolls were standard, chicken croquettes under seasoned & was misled by the "meat special". Thought we had a choice of roast beef or steak.... just got a tomahawk for $140- with 2 yorkshire puds... no sides (no veg, no potatoes, nothing)... sorry, was not worth the price at all. Would not go back, would not recommend. Just nothing special about this place- & at $140 served with nothing.... a yorkshire pudding costs cents to make. Adding some fries or roasted potatoes or a simple veg would be normal. Big NO from me.View more

We had a Sunday dinner reservation for 8 people amd it was a first at McKiernan's for most of our guests & certainly won't be the last! Top notch, friendly service as always & imcredible food! We took the Family Supper group menu, which offers variety & excellent value. Everyone was beyond impressed. Had a wonderful meal at McKiernan Rôtisserie. The staff was friendly & attentive & added to the experience. The deviled Brussel sprouts were to die for! The schnitzel was excellent & a good portion size. The chicken was moist & very flavorful. I found the shoestring fries a bit overdone but still tasty. Would recommend to anyone wanting a nice dinner. The dishes make for a lovely sharing experience.View more

Ok so here is the verdict. I've been & ordered in from mckiernan a handful of times over the years. Can't complain about the food, it's tasty & you get what you pay for. Very nice portions & an amazing spot to go with a big group. If I had to recommend: pastas are not my favorite, but croquettes, Brussels, beef tartare & chicken are great.View more

This is like the family-dinner restaurant of my dreams. Delicious roast chicken you can share, amazing sides like potatoes cooked in schmaltz & "deviled" charred brussels sprouts with blue cheese...Every bite is packed with flavour. Portions are really generous, the cocktails are affordable, & service is upbeat & friendly in both French & English. I wish I could eat here every week. We had a group reservation for like 20 ppl. The ambiance is really cool! The space is quite big & has terrasse vibes for drinks & dinner. Appetizers were really yummy. This beer hall-looking loft reminds us of the traditional Bavarian beer garden vibes completed with big windows letting lots of light in & greenery on the ceiling. Server was great, we sat at the bar & he was able to give some great wine recommendations. We had the scallops as appetizers & then the chicken schnitzel & the duck special as main meals. 2022: Delivery: rapini pesto lumache was really good but more as a side dish since the rapini is so intense. White tuna was perfect. Not what I was expecting at all but the large pieces were very well flavoured & presented. Cauliflower was tasty but when they literally give you the whole head of cauliflower not just pieces. Definitely a good portion & the mushrooms mix was great, but not exactly the easiest to eat. The chicken croquette wasn't that great since chicken doesn't make good filling in general but it was nice & crunchy on the outside. Donut was delicious. Pineapple cake was good.
