We are two physicians went to this awful Pakistani restaurant. I am from India. She's from Pakistan. She was excited to take me to a Pakistani restaurant. I went with her to this awful restaurant'MAMA KHAN'. We were visiting Montreal. Originally we are from Boston, MA USA.
First & foremost, I'm not sure it is a Pakistani restaurant or it it is run by Afghani people.
The first order was Samosa. It was burnt outside cooked in high heat, so when we opened it one layer of Maida was raw inside. The potato inside was black & had a weird taste. We were hungry so we hate the outside part of the Dough, although burnt.
Second order was lassi- it smelled something awful. I drank one gulp & didn't touch it again.
The third order was chicken haleem but it appeared to me the chef forgot to put the chicken- it tasted like dal & wheat. Although it was not that bad. I ate it as if I'm eating dal.
The third order was lamb charsi Karahi. I could not eat even one piece. It was not cooked at all.
I packed the lamb as by now I had lost faith & didn't want to leave the entire untouched dish. I thought these guys may serve my left on table dish to someone else. We took the left over food & put it in a trash.
The Nan was not bad except one fourth of the naan was not properly cooked, so we discarded that portion & ate the rest of the naan with the'DAL HALEEM'🤣
Service- the kid was from Afghanistan & was decent. He was polite.
Disappointing drop in quality today - standard was completely missed - I am a regular at Mama Khan, but today's experience was highly disappointing. We ordered the chappali kebab, which is usually a beautiful dark brown & packed with flavor. Today, it completely missed the mark.
The first plate they brought out was hard & burned. After we sent it back, the second attempt came out a dull, unappetizing brown (see photo). When I pointed this out to our server & showed them a picture of the chappali kebab we typically get here, I was simply told that they had run out of a specific spice, but that'it would improve next time.'
Frankly, if a critical ingredient is missing, management should just tell customers the dish is unavailable rather than serving an inferior version. The server really didn't seem to care. On a positive note, the chicken karahi was nice, but this is far from the food & service I typically expect from Mama Khan.
I ordered the Peshawari chicken & absolutely loved it-it was packed with flavor. Huge respect as well for the public service they do by feeding people in need every Friday, which is truly incredible. I'll definitely be back to try the Charsi chicken karahi next!❤?

We were visiting Montreal & searching for halal food & based on Google reviews we ordered food from them. The serving size was too small, although it mentioned 2 person serving on the website but it wasn't even enough for 1. Tandoori chicken was so burnt that it was black in color. Same was with chicken kababs. Karahi was tasteless not even close to Pakistani food. Also, on the website free soup was offered & I added it to my order but I didn't receive it. I won't recommend this restaurant.
The service was mad good but the food was even better. They thought we ordered too much & then food was so good & we ordered more. Karahi, kheer, tandoori chicken, haleem 🔥 must try if you're in Montreal
Mama Khan, located in Montreal's Plateau, offers authentic Halal Pakistani cuisine with rich, traditional Peshawari flavors.
Mama khan gave the generous portions & high quality of the food. The Chicken Karahi stands out for its rich, indulgent flavor, often noted to be prepared with butter (or makhni style), making it creamy & satisfying. Although dishes such as Biryani are rich in flavor, the spice level may be mild, so it's advisable to request extra spice for those who enjoy a spicier taste.
The must-try Kebabs & enormous, fresh chapati bread perfectly complement the hearty main courses. The service is friendly, Mama gave us a free chai, completing a warm, family-like dining experience.
Had an amazing experience at Mama Khan! The food was absolutely delicious especially the Butter Chicken Karahi, which was rich, flavorful, & perfectly spiced. The service was just as wonderful. Our waiter was super friendly, attentive, & made us feel so welcome. Loved the atmosphere & authentic taste. Can't wait to come back!
Absolutely delicious food! We ordered Chicken Karahi, Chapli Kebab, roti, paratha, & gol gappay , everything was bursting with authentic flavors & tasted just like homemade. The Chicken Karahi was rich & perfectly spiced, the Chapli Kebabs were juicy & flavorful, & the fresh rotis & parathas complemented the meal beautifully. The gol gappay were crisp & refreshing, adding the perfect touch to the experience. Overall, it felt like enjoying a hearty, home-cooked meal ,we'll definitely be coming back!
