I adore Malatang so I might be a little biased, but I loved this place. You grab a bowl, load up on the assorted selection of ingredients, & then the price is calculated by weight. Though it does look like they have combo options too.
This place had a wide selection of ingredients, there was plenty of options! We ordered the spicy beef broth, & it was very rich & flavorful with a nice kick to it. The only thing that I would say is that some of the veggie items didn't look particularly fresh.
The staff was also super nice, offering to explain how ordering works & show you the ropes. Overall, very enjoyable, delicious experience & a fun & unique way to eat! We felt very fulfilled leaving this place.
There weren't a lot of choices comparing to the other Zhang Liang malatangs, but overall I had a good meal! When we went into the restaurant, nobody served us. We found a table & sat down. We got ourselves cups & water, & you don't really need any help from the server except when you are paying. The place is old, not with the best environment but at least the food was tasty.
Very delicious. The soup is freshly cooked every day. I like to eat all kinds of beef delicacies. I can taste that the original soup base is made from beef bones. If I come to travel again next year, it will definitely be my first choice restaurant.
Petit resto caché avec une superbe ambiance! Le service est bien & la nourriture aussi. Le resto est grand avec une belle vue sur le parc & sur les commerçants à l'extérieur! Ça m'étonnait que ce ne soit pas tant occupé.
Came here during my trip because my friend really missed malatang & insisted we try it.
Honestly, the ingredients didn't feel super fresh - there was a bit of a fishy smell near the self-serve area. That said, the final bowl tasted okay, & my friend was satisfied, which made the visit worth it in its own way.
One of my favourite spots in the city. Simple, tasty & comforting. Gets better with every visit as your learn what ingredients you like & what works best together.
I used to come here often because the prices were really affordable. But when I visited a few days ago, the price suddenly jumped by over 10 dollars & I always get about the same amount. It used to be around $30 each time, but last time it was $46. It seems like both the owner & staff have changed too. I won't be coming back again.
Fresh ingredients, fast turnaround, great taste! I will say that the original soup base is not as spicy as the Zhangliang I went to in China, but it's still authentic & delicious 😋
Loved it! Got the original bone broth & it was so flavourful & delicious. Everything was perfectly cooked by the chef in the back. The shrimp & bass fish were especially exceptional. Can't wait to come back
It seems like people are complaining about the price but honestly it's less expensive than the malatang spots downtown. They also have combos which are pretty good & even cheaper! I regret not coming here instead it's the same thing & just as good but less expensive than dt . Sauce station is a little lacking but has everything you need. We were served by an old Chinese man & he was honestly so sweet & kind, helped us a lot.
I dont usually post reviews but I had not so great experience here.We were in Montreal for the long weekend & decided to dine in. Waited quite long (20mins)for the food to be prepared, only for my food to be undercooked. The potatoes were raw! Theres only one guy at the front (cashier/server) who seems to be the owner & hes unfriendly. This is the first Malatang I've been to where customers have to self serve the water, utensils & napkins! Whats the point of tipping then??
They've gotten cheaper & cheaper with their ingredients as many businesses do when they've been in business for a while. Used to have head on shrimp, better mussels, more veggie options, frog legs. Was a must go spot for me before & I'd order a bunch for the week, but will probably be an occasional thing now.
Food was absolutely delicious but it was kinda pricey. I went for the classic broth they have & it was mildly spicy with rich flavors. They also had a ton of options to pick.
Food didnt taste really fresh… broth was very seasoned so we dont need sauce. The place was also looked dirty from the sauce station, couch was ripped, place didnt look mopped. I was not too comfortable
If you have food allergies or even a basic expectation of hygiene, avoid this place at all costs.
We specifically mentioned dietary restrictions when ordering, only to be met with blank stares & zero understanding. After making our food with the allergens, their brilliant solution?'Just take it out.' Because apparently, removing a solid ingredient magically eliminates all traces of allergens.
To make matters worse, they completely mixed up our soup broths-three different orders, three different flavor preferences, all blended into one chaotic mess. What's the point of customizing your malatang if they're just going to stir everything together like some kind of unfortunate science experiment?
The staff seemed utterly lost, the service was a joke, & the experience left us frustrated & hungry. If you value your health, your time, or even just decent food handling, go literally anywhere else.
Spacious restaurant, Very fresh ingredients & their sauce bar has a lot of diversity ! The Waiter keeps cleaning tables & everywhere, seems very hygienic The broth is not too fat so if you want light broth please come here !
Fun concept. Broths are good, comforting. Good if you crave mild or spicy Malatang as hangover food. You pay at the counter after grabbing the ingredients you wish them to cook for you, so don't expect too much service other than that. It won't necessarily harm your overall experience here. This is my go-to spot for Malatang in Montreal.
