About

Ma Poule Mouillée specializes in authentic Portuguese charcoal-grilled chicken prepared with traditional spice rubs and open-flame cooking methods. The menu centers on succulent rotisserie poultry served alongside generous portions of poutine topped with chorizo, sautéed greens, and seasoned fries. Each order emphasizes robust flavors developed through high-heat grilling that renders skin crisp while keeping meat tender. The kitchen balances these bold proteins with side dishes like creamy coleslaw and classic salads to complete the meal. Patrons consume these hearty offerings within a functional space characterized by communal setups and efficient service flows. This establishment remains a destination for those seeking straightforward preparations of Iberian-inspired grilled favorites served without unnecessary complication or pretense. The commitment to consistent heat management and quality sourcing defines the primary culinary output of this venue.

Review Summary

Ma Poule Mouillée is widely celebrated for its exceptional charcoal-grilled Portuguese chicken and generous, flavor-packed poutine topped with chorizo. Visitors frequently praise the massive portion sizes, which offer incredible value for the money, and the authentic, smoky quality of the meat. While the restaurant is consistently busy and often requires waiting in a line, many guests find the experience well worth the time, especially when taking their meals to a nearby park to enjoy. Although some diners have noted occasional issues with service flow, limited indoor seating, or inconsistent seasoning, the vast majority of feedback highlights the restaurant as a must-visit destination in Montreal for a satisfying and comforting meal.

I got the small poutine & I must say that in a world of inflation & shrinkflation, this is not a bad price at all! They pile on the toppings & fill the container to the brim. They also don't cheap out on the chorizo & chicken. Overall it is a little salty for my taste. I also got a Portuguese tart & it totalled to $17-$18.

Walking into the restaurant it was a little chaotic, the restaurant workers were rushing around as it was super busy so you can either ask them to order or wait for them to ask you. After they take your order, you just move down the line to the cash register where you can buy pastries.

The sausage is absolutely mindblowingly delicious. I can't wait to come back here again.

Rotisserie chicken was moist & flavorful. Nata was also good, not overly sweet. Didn't care for the poutine thou, lacking flavor & seasoning. Just get the chicken. Ordering was a bit confusing for a first timer visiting. Place your order with the chef & then you pay at the counter. I won't go out of the way if you only have a few days in town.

Tried the poutine, couldn't finish it, generous serving of their fantastic chicken. The restaurant itself is small with a limited section of seating, but there is a gorgeous park a few blocks away to rest & eat at. Service was orderly & friendly. We beat the lunch rush but there was already a line by the time we left. Try the chicken poutine.

So, I've heard Montrealers claim this place has better poutine than La Banquise & I came to test that

So here's the thing: the poutine is awesome, Quebec has high standards for poutine. Is it the best? Not in my opinion but don't take that negatively.

What is the highlight is actually the chicken sandwich, my goodness, that was Amazing & I'd come again for that!

Really fun spot! Amazing food, though the portions were HUGE! Ordered way to much food for two people. Two half chickens with fries & salad. Weirdly, while the chicken & fries were great, the salad was also really exceptional. Recommend to anyone who likes good food!

Our go to place for Portuguese chicken. Cooked on charcoal served with fresh salad or fries & their tasty sauce. Expect long line ups but it moves fast

Absolutely delicious food & definitely worth the wait. The charcoal-grilled chicken was cooked perfectly. The portion sizes here are huge!

The small poutine was more than enough for two people to share. This place offers amazing value for the money. You get a lot of food for what you pay, & the quality doesn't suffer because of it.

There's almost always a lineup, & it's easy to see why. The food is consistently good, the portions are massive, & it's one of those places that keeps you coming back.

Highly recommended & worth it!
