About

Lyla presents a multifaceted culinary landscape where the delicate aromatics of Vietnamese cuisine harmonize with the bold, tongue-numbing intensity of Szechuan preparations. The menu features a diverse selection of steamed rice rolls, fragrant noodle soups, and fiery stir-fried dishes seasoned with authentic peppercorns and dried chiles. Diners navigate a progression of savory profiles ranging from fresh herb-forward salads to complex, spice-laden meat preparations. Every dish reflects a technical commitment to balance, ensuring that the bright citrus notes of Southeast Asian profiles stand up to the robust heat characteristic of Szechuan traditions. The environment maintains a functional focus on high-output production, serving consistent portions that highlight natural ingredient quality. This establishment serves as a deliberate intersection of regional Asian styles, providing a comprehensive exploration of intense textures and deep flavor profiles for those seeking depth and variety.

Review Summary

Lyla is widely recognized as a hidden gem in Montreal, consistently praised for its exceptional pho broth, high-quality ingredients, and authentic Vietnamese dishes. Customers frequently highlight the warm, friendly service and the clean, inviting atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for quick bites or family gatherings. While the vast majority of feedback is extremely positive regarding taste, portion sizes, and affordability, there are occasional inconsistencies noted with delivery experiences or specific menu items. Overall, the establishment remains a top-rated destination for those seeking reliable, delicious, and well-priced Vietnamese cuisine in a professional and welcoming environment.

I had walked by Lyla numerous times before & noticed the BYOW sign. The place was usually near empty. On this Sunday evening, my party of three decided to give it a try. To my surprise, the place was packed.

What looks like one more run of the mill Vietnamese eatery is pretty much that - on the food front, at least. The menu is standard (with a larger than usual selection of Pho) & the presentation lacklustre. The ingredients - chicken, shrimp, etc. - are of industrial quality. Fortunately, the prices are in line - so this is not an expensive restaurant, & of course, you can bring your own wine or beer.

Lyla does however excel at service - the staff being numerous & prompt. Decor is a mix of pretentious architectural features (an expensive scalloped ceiling), accompanied by tables & booths requiring refurbishing & lighting bright enough for a Costco warehouse. Clearly, someone changed their minds along the way.

Lyla is fine for a quick inexpensive no-frills weeknight dinner. Just don't bring a date or a birthday party you want to impress.

Every time I pass by in front of this restaurant. There's less & less customers, or even empty. So I had to try it out during lunch time to see if this restaurant has some issue.

The inside of the restaurant is really nice, somewhat it doesn't feel a Vietnamese restaurant, more like a modern summer beach themed restaurant. Service is great, maybe the fact I'm the first customer of the day.

While the environment is great, my Tokinoise soup isn't. The beef meat inside my soup taste really out dated, I had to remove it from my soup. Soup & noodle are just okay, with that minimum of price, I wouldn't complaint.

Okay meal & decent service in a empty restaurant, I'll give another visit to give a chance during evening.
