I used to be the biggest fan of this place. My husband & I have been coming every year to celebrate our anniversary before wedding & post-wedding. We have raved about & recommended this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice place. The service used to be surprisingly casual for an expensive spot & unpretentious. The food was always incredibly inventive, well portioned & well flavoured. The daily menu used to have a wide array of interesting dishes that were a healthy mix between seafood & game meat.
Now? We recently went & were just shocked. The atmosphere is so different - the decor has shifted, the patrons are mostly all English tourists, the service has become incredibly pretentious & poor: when our server realized we weren't ordering wine, we hardly saw him as he fawned over other tables. The food, while still delicious, has lost all of its nice touches - the fries that come with the steak frites used to come seasoned with tallow & Parmesan, & are now just plain, the tartare used to be accompanied by (laughably) one piece of crisped bread & now comes entirely solo. Even the bread & pickle side has been downsized & includes (quite literally) half a pickle. We were incredibly disappointed this July & will certainly not be going back. There are many other restaurants in the city at a similar price point that are doing more for your money & not making you feel like you don't belong to eat there. It's a shame as for a lot of people, expensive restaurants are for special occasions where people make a conscious decision to allocate their disposable income to celebrate something special. These are not normal evenings for normal folks. & it's reasonable to expect a certain level of service (& by that I mean not being grossly neglected by your server & watching him be omnipresent to many other tables in your sections, or at least having him come by at least once before you finish two courses). Even after emailing the restaurant, it took them several days to respond with a chat gpt response asking about the name on the reservation. They thanked us for'giving them the chance to make it right' & then never heard anything back.
I used to be the biggest fan of this place but truly, spend your money elsewhere.

Best restaurant in Montreal hands down. If it's your first time, try the steak & fries as well as the lobster spaghetti. Oysters are fresh & huge + you get to be served by the best CECILE!!! Thank you for your amazing service!!! 🫶🏽View more
Liverpool House in Montreal offers a dining experience that's both refined & deeply satisfying. From the moment you step in, the service is impeccable - professional, warm, & attentive without ever being overbearing. The ambiance is distinctly adult: cozy yet upscale, perfect for an intimate dinner or a special night out with friends. There's a sense of quiet sophistication in the air, balanced with a touch of laid-back charm.
The dishes are a masterclass in culinary craftsmanship. Every plate feels thoughtfully created & executed with precision. The meats are a true highlight: juicy, tender, & cooked to perfection, whether it's a steak, fish or pork. Each bite is layered with flavor, showing a clear attention to quality & technique. Even the sides & starters are memorable - fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation, & bold, satisfying combinations.
The beer selection is excellent, featuring local & craft options that pair well with the menu. But it's the wine list that truly shines: thoughtfully curated, diverse, & full of gems for both the casual drinker & seasoned connoisseur.
Liverpool House is a place where the details matter - in service, in food, & in atmosphere. A must-visit for those who appreciate elevated dining without pretension.View more
One of my favorite restaurants in Montreal. Service & atmosphere is great. Whether you choose seafood or steak you're not going to be disappointed.View more
Service was great, but the food was mediocre at best. Oysters & dessert were 5/5 but the steak, lobster spaghetti, & steak tartare were not good.View more
I fell in love at Liverpool House …. With Ceecee & Camille & definitely the steak tartare.View more
Could use some more lights. I have mixed feelings on the food. Bon service!
Points forts (+)
Spaghetti homard
Poisson du jour
Trempette crabe
Huîtres
Gâteau à l'orange
Points faibles (-)
Tartare (très très salée la mayonnaise)
Burrata avec bettraves jaune (très ordinaire)
Steak frites (très salée)
Poulet & moules (très salée)
Saucisse & patates (saucisse pas consistant.. très mou à l'intérieur)
Gâteau double chocolat (ressemble à un gâteau Walmart mccains)View more
The Steak Frites 🔥 the fries were mind blowing. I'd go back again & again just for that dish.View more
We sat at the bar & it was excellent. We had the steak frites & it was so good! The chocolate cake & the orange cake are also excellent. Our waiter for amazing, thank you! We didn't catch his name, sorry. 100% recommend! I'm not a huge seafood fan so we enjoyed the steaks.View more
Highly recommend the oysters & the steak & fries. The clams were bland. The decor & ambience was very quaint, & the staff was a vibe. We had a great time. I would recommend getting reservations ahead of time. We did two weeks prior because Joe Beef was all booked.View more
The halibut was really tasty. I recommend ordering the sourdough bread in the appetizer to enjoy the sauce of the halibut. The hanger steak was a bit salty for us. My main issue was that for the seafood selection you have to ask the waiter as this is not on the menu. The waiter will repeat a long list of available seafood, which is hard to catch the details. I understand that this may change daily, but they can just make a printout based on their daily options so that customers can clearly see the availability with prices.View more
View more
Beautiful space with fun energy & a warm atmosphere. The food was excellent. Love a restaurant that can do beautiful things with steak & with veggiesView more
We went out for dinner last night with friends & had the best time! First, it had to be one of the best meals I have eaten out in a long time. Everything was delicious! From the scallops, the fois gras breakfast sandwich, steak frites, cod & the incredible sourdough bread & butter (ordered it twice), we savoured every bite. Then the dessert after was the cherry on top! I have to say thank you so much to Cece (sorry if I spelled it wrong), she made our night so relaxed & memorable. The way she describes the food & the joy in her face made our night! She loves the food as much as we got to enjoy it. Incredible food, amazing staff & an all around wonderful evening. We can't wait to come back over & over again. All the best!View more

10/10 - this place was fire. Excellent seafood & steak. Super friendly staff.View more
Nice atmosphere & above average service definitely. Fois gras with egg was at smallest possible size. Steak could be a bit larger but it can very I know, but fries were absolutely uneatable & salty. Cocktails were high quality.View more
Our group of 12 got seated in the comfortable outside garden & we're well served a family style pre fixe. It was a long service with wine plentiful. The seafood & steak were stars along with the service.View more
I loved the fish omble chevalier, & the duck salad was delicious! The steak with the fries was very salty, unfortunately. The oysters from Québec were really good also. I loved the place in general. The service was excellent. It's just the extra salty steak that removed 1 star. But would definitely try it again!View more
Thank you AMEX for having this on the fine restaurants & dining list! From the service to every food item & the terrace, everything was perfect. i recommend the lobster spaghetti & hanger steak! this is a must visit if you're in montrealView more
First time here not sure if it was just this night but the mains were extremely salty... The appetizers (we got the burrata, oysters, scallop & fish tartare) were excellent. But following, the hanger steak & sweat bread casserole were so salty we barely finished them. The lobster pasta was good though. The desserts were just alright For the price of everything I had higher expectations (170$ pp) I like their sister restaurant Joe Beef is betteView more
My son & I drove to the Grand-Prix to spend a father & son weekend. Our friday night dinner at Liverpool house was sensational. The staff was really kind & attentive. They made us feel at home. The recommendations were excellent. We had oysters, beef tartare & steak & fries. The presentation was fabulous. The tartare was out of this world delicious. I wish it came with a bigger baguette, but eaten as it was gave a great mouth feel. The steak-fries was absolutely on point. Have no doubts, it was a generous portion & well worth 41$. The fries were overflowing & exceptional. I wanna thanks the staff of June 7th for a great evening spent at your establishment.View more
At the top of my list were the famed sister restaurants Joe Beef & Liverpool House, which are well known Montreal institutions but which I, like many, had become familiar with via the late Anthony Bourdain. Liverpool House is also where Justin Trudeau once took Barrack Obama for dinner once. Joe Beef was filled up a few weeks in advance but I was able to snag a reservation for one at the bar on a Thursday evening at Liverpool House. & I figured, if it's good enough for Obama it should be OK for me. They have an often-changing menu that varies with the seasons, as well as some regular specialities. They are known for the lobster spaghetti so I had my mind on that going in, but seeing the market price on this day I decided it was just too rich for my blood. I considered the Pork Belly Normandy briefly but, in the end., went with the French bistro classic of steak frites, medium-rare. As an aside, I have decided to try to switch my steak preference from medium to medium-rare, & this as the first time actioning this. While waiting for my dinner I accepted a recommendation for a nice glass of red, made small talk with my neighbor who seemed to work in the restaurant industry & know the staff here, & politely declined the offer to do a shot with them. My neighbour lamented the chef refused to make him a ham & cheese sandwich; I suggested he order it as a Croque Monsieur instead & he thought this may work. I'll handle the sides first. The veg was a wedge of lettuce dressed with a light vinaigrette. The dressing was good but, while it's popular in fancy restaurants, I find this a lazy way to make a salad. I'm not a big fry guy. These had some crisp & were well-salted, & with the mayo I enjoyed them. The steak was served sliced & in a sauce, & was cooked as ordered. It was flavourful & tasty & I savoured every bite. The simple things done well are enjoyable indeed. I'll try to be back my next time in Montreal for sure. A good meal to start my culinary long weekend.View more
Food: Lobster spaghetti: Sauce is pretty good. However lobster tail have the texture of Rubber & claw is undercooked. Steak frites: salty, not much flavor otherwise Service: the guy is good, however this place is under stuff & i was going to tell him about the lobster issue but I guess he don't have time to come around. Also they charge tip on top of tax which I find crazy... Atmosphere: noisy- can't hear anything basically. Cramp in small spaces & trying not to knock over plates. Overall it would be okay for a 50 dollar restaurant but at this price point not worth it I would sayView more
