My first true smash burger moment happened almost by surprise during a summer walk through downtown Montreal with my daughter, & I can still feel that excitement. The burger showed up wrapped in paper, no drama, no buildup. Then came the first bite, & everything clicked instantly. The patty was thin with boldly crispy edges that snapped before giving way to a juicy, intensely beefy center. It was pure, comforting, & completely addictive. In that single bite, my idea of what a burger could be changed forever. I did not realize it at the time, but that moment sent me chasing that same feeling, & it kept leading me back to L'Hamburger.
What truly sets L'Hamburger apart is its confidence in doing less & doing it better. There are no distractions, just skill, heat, & balance. The patties are smashed hard on a blazing flat top, creating that irresistible caramelization without weighing you down. The buns melt into the bite, the toppings feel familiar & perfectly portioned, & the sauces lift everything without stealing the show. Then there are the fries. The portions are unapologetically generous, to the point where I sometimes laugh & wonder if the hamburger has quietly become the side dish. Piled high, golden, & crisp, they are made for sharing, yet somehow always disappear faster than expected.
Over time, L'Hamburger has carved out a permanent spot in my personal Montreal food story. It is where I go when I want comfort with excitement, simplicity with soul. Nothing feels skimpy, rushed, or overthought. From the towering fries to the perfectly executed smash burgers, every visit leaves me full & genuinely happy. Familiar, crave worthy, & consistently hitting all the right notes, L'Hamburger is the kind of place that turns a casual meal into a small celebration. Take your taste buds to L'Hamburger. Patties are smashed beautifully & are well seasoned. Their house sauce is also tasty.
Cons:
The bottom bun was COMPLETELY burnt & the burger tasted like carbon.
I give them the benefit of the doubt, because I ordered off of Uber Eats previously & was very happy with the food. Today must have been a busy day, but nonetheless I don't see why they couldn't toast another bun once they saw how burnt this bun is.
We got two cheeseburgers, & both of them had burnt buns like this!
We were hungry so we ate both burgers, but I must say I am very disappointed.

If you're craving comfort food done right, this place absolutely nails it. The smash burger is perfection - crispy-edged patties with that beautiful caramelized crust, juicy in the center, melted cheese & the house sauce drips down just enough to make it messy in the best way possible. The toasted potato bun holds everything together without falling apart, & every bite has that ideal balance of crunch, flavor, & melt-in-your-mouth goodness.

Quick & friendly service. Good spot for smash burgers - meat was cooked fresh, crispy, & flavourful. Poutine portion was huge - good cheese & sauce, & fries were crispy & perfectly salted. Several high stools inside to dine in, otherwise there are picnic tables outside for warmer days.

I ordered the cheeseburger (with the house sauce) + a poutine & they were both delicious! The service was great also; extremely courteous & it looks like they love what they do - now I just have to go back to try the milkshakes!

Very solid smash burger & very good fries. House sauce is tasty & the bun was very pillowy & light, very delicious. Very generous portions. Staff was super friendly & price was on point. Gladly go back again.

Tonight was the second time I visited & it was just as delicious as I remembered. Its everything you want in a cheeseburger. Juicy, flavourful with crispy edges, thinly sliced pickles & dripping in their house sauce. Poutine was good, the fries are crispy & perfectly cooked. Service is top notch. Can't wait to go back!

Beau petit endroit pour un smash burger simple, prêt rapidement. Le burger est bon, frais & la sauce ajoute une touche spéciale. Les frites sont fraiches & généreuses, on peut en commander une pour deux personnes.
Ils ont des milkshakes, mais nous n'avons pas essayé.
Deuxième visite & les deux fois ont été agréables.
Tables de pique nique devant le resto & quelques tabourets à l'intérieur.
