Review Summary

L'Express is widely celebrated as an iconic Montreal institution that offers an authentic and timeless Parisian bistro experience. Guests frequently praise the consistently delicious classic French cuisine, highlighting standout dishes such as the duck confit, steak frites, bone marrow, and the signature Ile Flottante dessert. The welcoming atmosphere is often described as vibrant, cozy, and elegant, perfectly complemented by a professional and attentive service team. Many diners appreciate the unique touches, such as the complimentary jar of gherkins and mustard served at every table, as well as the extensive and well curated wine list. While the popular, bustling dining room can become quite loud and tables are closely spaced, most visitors find that the high quality of the food and the charming, energetic vibe make it a must visit destination that provides excellent value for a memorable dining experience.

Nice experience. Very prompt service. Price is very fair. Food is generally good. Duck confit a bit salty though.

A small place that we almost missed even though we used Google maps to find it. But well worth tracking down. This place is a tiny bistro with a beautiful decor amazing staff & the food is out of this world. We tried the sorrel soup & then they also had a gazpacho that was seasonal that was amazing. The chicken pate was to die for. & then we shared a duck confit. That was some of the best duck I've ever had in my entire life. Hidden gem in St. Denis that you must try.

First, we called for a table in the morning & they said although they were booked they'd make room :). That's nice!
Room has a lovely ambience, casual but elegant. Wine choice was lovely, assisted by friendly server. The celeriac was nice, vinegary & crunchy but needed another fatty dish to offset. Confit duck was basically perfect. Yum. Daughter's steak was good, quite rare but tender, but the frites fell short. They were missing crisp & seemed like they'd been sitting. Poached salmon with chervil mash was outstanding. Overall a really good meal, with great service.

Two friends & I had our favorite lunch ever here! The service was exceptional & atmosphere really enjoyable definitely recommend the duck confit, the bone marrow, the sorrel soup, & especially their signature dessert, Ile Flottante!

Incredibly noisy, so loud it was hard to have a conversation. The duck confit was absolutely fantastic, but the steak was a huge letdown. For a Michelin Guide French restaurant, I expected so much more. I've honestly had far better steaks at average restaurants around the city.

We were forced (in a good way) to be here by our uber driver & we're so glad he did that!

Montréal version of French food they say. They have an amazing menu but we were looking for something light so went with the Fish soup which was a banger!

Duck confit & tartare is very much recommended here.

Waiting to be back soon to try more🤌🏻

On a recent visit to Montreal, this was our favorite dinner. If you're a foodie, go. If you're not, you can go too. I was told the quail was a long-standing favorite. I can see why. Three birds with a smoky, sweet, perfectly balanced sauce & wild rice. The duck confit was as good as you'll get in a bistro, even in France. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender & the skin was brown & crisp. In other words, perfectly cooked. I feel I should ding them because of a lackluster croque monsieur I had earlier for lunch, which was a step above a good grilled sandwich. I did say a good grilled cheese sandwich, so it wasn't bad. Just disappointing. The service is efficient & the staff is friendly. Book early, at least a week in advance.

Had an amazing late-night meal here with a group of friends, everything was top-notch & very reasonably priced. We got extremely drunk & extremely full. Would recommend to anyone.
Go for the quails, duck confit, & every dessert on the menu.
