Discover Cambodian cuisine in this resto-bar located in Verdun. Located on one of the most beloved streets of Montreal, Street Monkeys is the perfect place to enjoy a dinner with friends or family.
Overall, reviews describe Les Street Monkeys as a vibrant spot offering inventive Cambodian-inspired cuisine with a strong emphasis on sharing plates, where many dishes and flavors are praised, from papaya salad and wasabi shrimp ceviche to stuffed wings, cod in coconut curry and other fusion twists. The service is repeatedly noted as attentive and friendly, and the bar program with cocktails earns frequent praise, along with a lively, colorful ambiance that is great for groups, dates, or casual nights out. A few comments point to small portions for the price and occasional inconsistency across dishes or noise level, and some diners note that tasting or fixed menus for larger groups can feel limiting. Nevertheless, the overall takeaway is a memorable, creative dining experience with high quality ingredients and thoughtful presentation, making it a go-to spot for exploring Cambodian-inspired flavors in a convivial setting.
Cerviche was strong wasabi but delicious. Messiah was delicious. Squid also great with side of rice. Fried tamarind fish was ok. We should've gone with the cod. Overall great experience.
Cambodian cuisine is rare in Montreal, but Street Monkeys pays great homage to it. We started with the wasabi ceviche, which was so delicious we were practically drinking the dressing by the end. The stir-fried squid was tender & flavourful, & the fried cod curry was saucy yet somehow remained perfectly crispy. The bone marrow was also absolutely decadent. This was my first time trying Cambodian food, & Street Monkeys set the bar high.
I really wanted to love this spot, but unfortunately I had such a mediocre experience. First, the folks here were very pleasant, & I acknowledge we did show up to eat relatively late. However, our food came out in the most erratic & illogical way. We first received our ceviche. It was very flagrant, which was fine because we like spicy & had read the caution note on the menu, but I would believe the note. Then, the rice, skewers, & Chinese broccoli came out. This would have been fine, but my partner is pescatarian, & the subsequent dish did not come out for another thirty minutes. I will note, I did enjoy it. As a result, the broccoli got cold. It also lacked flavor. Another thirty minutes after, the final dish came out. At this point, we didn't even want it.
Herein is the next major issue. We sat at the kitchen counter, & had complete perspective of the kitchen. We watched as the kitchen scraped what little bit of curry sauce was left in the container to make our last dish. It confuses me that a restaurant would have an open kitchen & not be mindful of their behavior while customers are observing. This is where it gets better. I watched as staff salted & floured raw fish & then touched bread & garnished dishes. There was one instance where the waiter fully dapped up (shook hand) of a customer & proceeded to sprinkle some cilantro with that same hand on someone's dish. I can respect the communal & chill vibe they're going for, but the staff ordering pizza & taking shots while customers wait for food, is just bad business. To top it off, the meal was $100. I didn't say anything because frankly I didn't think they'd be receptive based on the above. All in all, I would struggle to recommend.
Les Street Monkeys is a trendy little restaurant with chic decor & tapas-style Cambodian dishes.
If you're vegan, your options are limited, but you can still eat well. In the past they had grilled corn on the cob. Recently they had sauteed chinese broccoli, a mushroom & cabbage salad, tofu with noodles, & pumpkin & tapioca coconut milk pudding.
You have 2 hours on the dot until you have to make way for the next reservation.

We loved going to Street Monkeys with my friend, we shared a few dishes & everyhting was delicious. Cocktails were amazing too. An incredible experience overall.

A place to visit multiple times for sure!
Loved the beef skewers. The papaya salad had a nice crunch. The wasabi ceviche was definitely an experience, one you should at least try once!
Will be back to try more of the items!
