Birthday dinner. Hard to get reservation, thanks to the concierge at the Embassy Suites for snagging us a rez.
Little bit of a rocky start on a very busy Saturday night. But the staff was attentive & made it right - all went well from there.
The tomato bread appetizer was delicious, a French Canadian bruschetta dish! Also tasty was the tomato dip & bread that came while we were waiting to get our table sorted.
Cod croquettes next. Very nicely done with a nice aioli'sauce' dressing.
The Paella with seafood & chorizo was a nice portion to split & very tasty, the rice done perfectly. & the little lemon water cleansing bowls were so amazing for the fingers!
Finished with a creme brulee' that was also delicious. Very crisped sugar topping for sure!
To really make things special, the owner made several visits to our table. Definitely knows how to treat his clientele, must send a shout out to him.
He went out of his way to really make us feel special. Amazing guy.
Food was ok. Nothing special. Pasta of the day was spaghetti in creme sauce with shrimps Calamari & mussels was ok.
Vegetarian sandwich was nothing to erite home about.
J'aimerais particulièrement souligner les points suivants ;
The food was so good that we were surprised that there was no other customers at the time of our visit in the afternoon. Great interior, great food, great staff.
We totally demolished the first tray of baguette so we were offered a second tray. We ate too much bread because the dipping sauce was soooo good that I could not even finish half of my paella after😂.
Food was presented well but not very good especially considering the high prices. Shrimp main dish was $45, contained 4 shrimp served in a sauce, & were unpeeled & not deveined & overcooked. Vegetables on each dish were bland & not cooked with any attention to flavor or texture. Very hot & crowded where we sat. Strawberry almond arugula salad surprisingly included a lot of diced tomatoes, & strawberries + tomatoes do not go well together at all. Service was friendly but with several mistakes. Overall not a good experience.
For me, the service was better than the food. For appetizers, we tried the seared scallops with creamy pork chorizo sauce & the grilled octopus which were both good. For my main, I tried the beef cheeks & was disappointed with the flavours - the sauce was underwhelming, & the vegetables were a bit soggy & under-seasoned. I felt like a bit more attention could be given to the preparation of the dish & the flavour of the sauce could be refined.
Absolute tourist trap. It's a shame because the space is lovely & the servers were very nice but there's just no possible way of justifying these prices. $40 for a few hunks of pork, sauce, a couple mushy lukewarm vegetables & a handful of reheated home fries. There was a bunch of dirt on one of the potatoes & I got a big mouthful of sand & grit. It's not like all the food was terrible but none of it was impressive. We paid $300 for one app, three mains & a couple drinks. It's a price I'm more than willing to pay for dinner if it's really well executed. It's also food (not counting the potato dirt) I'd be happy to eat for half the price. Unfortunately the quality just doesn't measure up to the bill.
We went to Pyrenees just by searching on google for a Spanish restaurant. I ordered 12-hour braised lamb that night. I can tell you it that it was one of the best lamb meals I had ever had. So, we went back next time for lunch. This time I ordered lamb shank from lunch menu. Again, it was amazing. Lunch menu was more affordable. For lunch, soup or salad, & coffee were included. I chose soup & coffee. My friend tried salad & coffee. They bring French buggets & some sauce at the beginning. In general, I totally recommend it.
The vegetarian lasagna tasted good though perhaps slightly too creamy. It was a good mix of sauce, cheese, & vegetables. The salad that accompained was perfectly dressed & allowed the vegetables to really show for themselves. The orange sponge cake with dark chocolate sauce & raspberry sauce on the side was a tasty dessert. The cake was soft & moist. You could really taste the orange but it was not overpowering. The dark chocolate sauce provided a good balance between the citrus of the orange & bitter sweetness of the dark chocolate. Would recommend
