Food: bland & pretentious
Service: the waiter laughed at us because we asked for a slice of bread to be served alongside the ham.
Cost 90$ for ham, salad, radishes & a « tarte à la tomate » made of a single slice of tomato, a lot of cheddar & a terrible so called puff pastry. Definitely one of the worst restaurant of the city.
I've been to Le Vin Papillon twice now, & both times the food & service were excellent! I've been lucky during my visits that the menu was naturally very veggie-forward. The staff was incredibly accommodating & tried to adapt things for a vegan palate whenever possible, even if a few specific dishes couldn't be modified.
While in general I'd love to see even more fully vegan options on menus across the city, this is a fantastic place to start. Great atmosphere, wonderful staff, & delicious wine :)
Easily the best meal of the year so far. Yes, the ham is worth the hype but there were so many more incredible, & thoughtful dishes that aren't to be missed: radishes, calamari with nduja, & the carrot cake are musts. Special shout out to the bus boy Clyde who was wonderfully attentive & made the suggestion to order & save bread to soak up the delicious sauces.
Came here with a friend for dinner recently & split several plates, we did not order any alcohol (this is reflected in the bill price per person). We started with the asparagus - it was super fresh but the bread crumbs were quite bland; the ham & Parmesan (excellent but would recommend perhaps ordering bread to go with it); & the radishes (one of their specials) - these came with a scone & herb butter, which were all quite good). We also had the chicken sausages (a special) & the mushrooms (regular menu). Both were very good but the mushrooms do not really given summer - would not necessarily recommend for a hot day. We tried two desserts, the labneh & rhubarb cake. Both very good, labneh was nice & tangy, rhubarb cake had lovely textures but I would have wanted the rhubarb flavor to stand out more. We could definitely have ordered fewer plates & still had enough food. The terrace in the back where we sat was also very nice.
Our group ordered quite a few dishes to share, & every single one was a hit. I especially appreciated how many fresh options were available. When you're traveling, it can be difficult to find food that is both healthy & genuinely delicious, but this restaurant managed to do both perfectly.
I also have to give credit to the staff. My dad & brother leaned a little too hard into the'rude American' stereotype. Despite that, our server remained patient, professional, & attentive throughout the meal. If they happen to read this review, thank you for handling us with such grace!
The food was outstanding from start to finish. My personal favorites were the beet salad, which was as beautiful as it was delicious, & the rhubarb almond tart for dessert. I'm still thinking about both.
I would absolutely recommend this restaurant & would happily return the next time I'm in the area.
We tried around 4 dishes & nothing was really impressive. The bread costed 6$ & the carrot dessert 15$. Nothing extraordinary. Very expensive for what it is
I'm glad I finally decided to try this restaurant. The setting is moody with dim lights but the ambiance is lively. Perfect for date night. Amazing service from start to finish. The food was delicious. They've definitely perfected the art of vegetables. The'Chou de Savoie' & Betterave we're amazing. The fish was perfectly seasoned & cooked - I really love the sauce it was served with. The only negatives was the cold bread (I'm a sucker for warm bread) & the rhubarb pie was a little hard. However, they noticed that we didn't enjoy the dessert & fixed the situation promptly. Don't hesitate to try this location; it's a gem.
Absolutely unreal, not only food & drinks are great, but also people - both staff & guests. One of the highlights of Montreal!
