About

Le Trou serves artisanal, hand-rolled bagels that prioritize traditional boiling techniques to achieve a distinctive, chewy texture and a lightly blistered crust. This establishment focuses on creating substantial sandwiches utilizing high-quality cured meats, fresh produce, and house-made spreads layered between freshly toasted bread varieties. A robust selection of caffeinated beverages complements the menu, with a focus on balanced espresso extractions and precision pour-over methods. The interior design emphasizes industrial minimalism, featuring functional seating arrangements that prioritize efficiency for quick consumption. Dedicated preparation spaces ensure that every item remains consistent in composition and flavor profile. By refining the intersection of classic bakery staples and modern sandwich craft, the venue establishes a clear identity centered on reliable, high-volume food production and technical mastery of dough fermentation processes.

Review Summary

Le Trou is widely celebrated for its fresh, authentic Montreal style bagels that feature a perfect balance of a crispy exterior and a chewy, soft interior. Many patrons praise the high quality of the ingredients used in their sandwiches, particularly the smoked salmon and breakfast deluxe options, often describing them as some of the best in the city. The atmosphere is frequently described as warm, cozy, and welcoming, with many visitors highlighting the friendly and attentive nature of the staff. While the shop is compact and can become quite warm due to the on-site baking process, the overall consensus points to a delightful experience for those seeking a delicious, freshly prepared snack or meal in a charming neighborhood setting.

Granted it's Saturday morning peak time, it took me more than 30 mins for two bagel sandwiches & a filter coffee; & people who have ordered before me have gotten their orders faster. No explanation for why it was so late; it was a frustrating experience to say the least. I'd give zero star if I could.

Love this little bagel joint. Fresh daily. Obsessed with the Everything Bagels. They're sandwiches are great! Love the atmosphere. Enjoy that they regularly add new items to the menu. I met Raphaelle in December & she was kind, inviting & goes above & beyond for her customers. She has great new & refreshing ideas & she is very passionate. I recommend this place 100%.

Good neighborhood bagels with that fresh, Montreal-style vibe - especially if you're grabbing them to go. The bagels I took home were really good later on, so we got to enjoy them for a bit longer.

That said, the menu is pretty limited, & I felt like the sandwiches were overpriced for what you get (tried the smoked salmon, breakfast deluxe & classic sesame & cream cheese). There wasn't enough toppings to justify the price, & by midday some key ingredients (like tomatoes) were already gone. Service can be a bit slow during busy times too, so be prepared for a wait if there's a line.

Overall solid bagels & a nice local spot (parking is a big plus!), but there's room for improvement in value & consistency of toppings/service.

Not so hidden gem. Bagel sandwiches are affordable & super tasty. Caters for vegetarians as well. Would 100% recommend.

Cute place for bagels in Griffintown. Bagels & sandwiches were delicious. More of a put-together kind of bagel place if you know what I mean. The staff was lovely. No AC so tough sitting inside on a hot day.

I went to the place due to its good ratings & they did not disappoint. They have a good selection of different bagels & sandwiches they can prepare. You can get meat or veggie options so that most people can eat here. If you like to stay inside or sit outside in the sun, they offer both. If you wanna walk a few meters you can also enjoy your food in the park nearby. Keep up the good work.

Ok, real review time.. I don't write many reviews but reading the insane posts here, I had to set the record straight.. The SESAME bagel is nowhere near a "montreal bagel".. I didn't try any of the "sandwiches" which may be fine, but we're talking bagels here.... Sticking with a pure montreal bagel, this doesn't cut it. Take the trip to st viateur, Fairmount, bagel ouest in ddo or even kettlemans in a pinch. This was the second time I got bagels after being dissapointed with texture & taste when they opened. They may look like our bagels but they have the insides of a new York bagel. I knew the second I picked one up. That's fine if you like that, but it ain't what us bagel purists are about.. Please don't consider the SESAME as a representation of a "real" montreal bagel.. It's a hybrid at best.. Also, strangely the only bagel shop I've been to, to give 12, & not 13 (bakers dozen) when you buy a dozen...
