Le serpent, an institution since 2013
Le Serpent opened its doors spectacularly on December 23, 2013 in Griffintown. Located in the Darling Foundry, an art-dedicated space, its name was borrowed from the former foundry, from the time when a massive pollution control duct crowned it. Today non-functional, this industrial artifact remains very present in the building’s architecture and the neighborhood’s urban landscape.
Founded by Hubert Marsolais and Claude Pelletier, also creators of Club Chasse et Pêche and Le Filet restaurant, Le Serpent offers a menu with strong Italian accents in a contemporary brasserie spirit, with a strong personality and equipped with a unique, high-quality wine list. The team of associates is brilliantly completed by chef Michele Mercuri and sommelier Philippe Boisvert. Designed by architect Annie Lebel of atelier in situ in collaboration with Hubert Marsolais, Le Serpent enhances the industrial qualities of the space. Contemporary arrangements that contrast with the building’s raw and refined aspect, offering about 80 seats and a bar that can accommodate a dozen people. Wishing to be an accomplice to all occasions, Le Serpent is open in the evening from Tuesday to Saturday. Exclusive caterer for Darling Foundry events, Le Serpent also welcomes groups of different sizes.
Le Serpent is also a collector and integrates major contemporary artworks into the restaurant space that dialogue with the Darling Foundry.

There was an incident during the finger where a loud speaking young musician celebrity started a zoom call next to our table which was highly disruptive of a dinner ambience. We raised it with them & they got aggressively defense. That was unpleasant & the restaurant was in a bind of accommodating both guests. In the end the loud musicians left & the hotel management apologized for the situation & provided us with a service dessert as a token. The staff was very diplomatic in navigating this situation.
We had oysters & stuffed quail as our main. The food was absolutely next level delicious & the service was outstanding. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Had a great experience at Le Serpent! Food was excellent. Super fresh ingredients & flavours were well thought through & presented well,
They lose a star due to service. I found the service to be exceptionally slow. It felt like there was not enough staff to accommodate the floor.
We enjoyed our evening, a bit pricey but good food & good service
It looks very unassuming from the outside … but trust me … once you make your way inside , the modern industrial ambiance is quite welcoming. The service was fantastic. Our server recommended several options of wine to pair with our dishes. Each dish had its unique flavour pairings. The portions were somewhat small for the appetizers, but the taste made up for it. Lovely experience.
An iconic restaurant in Griffintown, both location & vibe. I personally don't enjoy the warehouse/industrial vibe, but it is for some people.
What's certain is that the food is impeccable & stunning. The ingredients are fresh, from pasta to seafood going through seasonings & vegetables, you get an explosion of taste with every bite.
The place is brimming with staff for proper & quick service.
5/5 overall score, the lower stars are just my personal taste which doesn't apply to everyone.
Delicious food - had the grilled octopus as entré & the special "caramel bonbon" pasta stuffed with braised beef, fois gras & ricotta served On panais purée with hazelnuts & crispy kale & add on of truffles as main course. Excellent service from Laure. Cool modern industrial ambience.
Extremely overpriced pasta & quite small portions. Service took one hour for our 2 pasta dishes to arrive. Fancy presentation & nice setting though...
This is a revisit to Le Serpent. All the appetisers are delicious, especially sauces for the oysters & also the cooked oysters. Wine are priced reasonably. No corkages allow here is a disappointment. The pastas were not as good as I remembered but still pretty good. Overall very good. Highly recommended
Went there for an office party. Food was good, overall setup was welcoming.
My ultime favorite restaurant in Montreal. The food, the wine, the cocktails, the service, the mood. I love everything about this place
