About us

Paris may be an ocean away, but the art of casual French bistro dining is not lost at Le Pois Penché in the heart of downtown Montréal.

The menu reads like a who’s-who of Parisian comfort food favourites, with beloved classics the likes of steak tartare and duck confit in mustard sauce alongside an array of spectacular seafood platters. Boasting one of the most interesting wine collections in the city, Le Pois Penché offers an impressive selection of imported bottles and wines by the glass.

This authentic French brasserie delivers fine cuisine in simple opulence: plush red velvet, checkerboard floor tile, crystal chandeliers, large paintings and a blackboard listing the daily specials on the wall. In the middle, a large bar; around it, busy waiters flitting to and from, outfitted in the traditional white shirt, black vest and apron. French bistro, through and through.

Le Pois Penché’s terrasse buzzes with animated conversation while its private banquet rooms reserve their splendour for group functions. Le Cellier, in particular, offers a sumptuous venue for events up to 70 guests, with vibrant Parisian settings by artist Pierre Pivet, a vaulted brick ceiling, and the restaurant’s prized wine cellars displayed behind sleek glass panels. Connected to the brasserie, Salon Chez Swann, in the boutique hotel of the same name, is ideal for groups of 24 guests or less.

Je viens de redecouvrir cet établissement au travers de sa table d'hôte du midi. Une cuisine avec de l'imagination, vraiment bien faite & délicieuse, pour un rapport qualité prix intéressant. Les bouchées à la reine aux escargots de l'entre étaient un bonheur : un plat qu'on aimerait aussi retrouver à la carte.

Très bon ! Resto typique pour le monde snob qui gagnent plus que que l'reste du monde, mais le staff est cap d'être terre à terre. Nourriture classique du type pour le ±60$, sans plus. Les plats 150$+ sont une autre classe & eux, impressionnent. Alex

Musique ambiante qui ne va pas avec le style chic du restaurant. Heureusement, ils ont accepté de changer. Le serveur n'a aucune expérience sur l'accord mets-vin. Ils a de la difficulté à nous conseiller Nous prenons une bouteille de bulles à 245$, mais impossible d'avoir le filet mignon en croûte de pistache, sur le menu St-Valentin, parce que l'ensemble de la table ne le prend pas. Nous étions 4. Mais, si nous étions assis à deux table différentes ça aurait été possible... Steak, tout juste acceptable. Tartare, bon, mais certainement pas le meilleur. Il y avait longtemps que nous voulions y aller. C'est fait. Y retournerai-je? Non. 430$ plus pourboire. Trop cher !

We flew from Toronto to Montreal to celebrate my birthday a few weeks ago. Stayed only 2 nights one of which had to include Le Pois Penché for dinner. It was amazing as always! Beautiful shrimp then we had the Steak Frites, the meat was so tender & tasty & the frites were heaven! Wonderful wine, beautiful atmosphere & superb service! Every trip back home I have to drop in its that special. Thx to LPP...Chantal

We randomly entered the place yesterday with my husband & sat at the bar. The food was great & the atmosphere too. The salmon tartare was AMAZING!!!!! The service from Clermont at the bar was THE BEST & one that we hadn't experienced in a very long time. Extremely friendly, social, helpful. Definitely we are coming back!!

Prepare yourself for a below standard of quality of food for the money, I had a NY steak with fries & mushrooms for $75 that you would get the same at Denis restaurant in my opinion, the bread was amazing! The service on the other hand, was brutal, severely short staff, we waited for an hour for our bill.

This is a pricey option for a brunch, the food was quite good but I would dare to say that the unique dishes are way tastier than the traditional ones. The viennoiseries are okay & the ambience is really calm. I would recommend it if you want to have a nice family brunch.

Pleasantly surprised I was on a business trip & stayed in downtown Montreal. Looking for dinner & stumbled upon this place. The staff were extremely friendly & knowledgeable. My server recommended caviar with oyster which was a great deal. It was insanely delicious! The module frites was good too. I loved the ambiance, the service & the food. Definitely coming back when I'm in the neighborhood next time.
