About us

Paris may be an ocean away, but the art of casual French bistro dining is not lost at Le Pois Penché in the heart of downtown Montréal.

The menu reads like a who’s-who of Parisian comfort food favourites, with beloved classics the likes of steak tartare and duck confit in mustard sauce alongside an array of spectacular seafood platters. Boasting one of the most interesting wine collections in the city, Le Pois Penché offers an impressive selection of imported bottles and wines by the glass.

This authentic French brasserie delivers fine cuisine in simple opulence: plush red velvet, checkerboard floor tile, crystal chandeliers, large paintings and a blackboard listing the daily specials on the wall. In the middle, a large bar; around it, busy waiters flitting to and from, outfitted in the traditional white shirt, black vest and apron. French bistro, through and through.

Le Pois Penché’s terrasse buzzes with animated conversation while its private banquet rooms reserve their splendour for group functions. Le Cellier, in particular, offers a sumptuous venue for events up to 70 guests, with vibrant Parisian settings by artist Pierre Pivet, a vaulted brick ceiling, and the restaurant’s prized wine cellars displayed behind sleek glass panels. Connected to the brasserie, Salon Chez Swann, in the boutique hotel of the same name, is ideal for groups of 24 guests or less.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Le Pois Penche on Friday 11/1/24 based on a recommendation from my hotel Le Nouvel Hotel. The quality of the food, the hip atmosphere, & the service were all exemplary, so much so that I went back Saturday night as well. I was seated Friday at the Oyster bar & had the pleasure to meet Julien a talented Oyster Man & amazing ambassador for Le Pois Penche & for Montreal in general. Julien described the available oysters in culinary detail & presented an artistic & delicious plate of oysters along with suggestions on accoutrements to complement the various oyster flavors. We'll be awaiting your oyster video Julien... My server Marwa was attentive, helpful, & pleasant. Based on my superb experience Friday, Marwa helped me book a reservation for a return Saturday with my daughter. On Saturday Julien thoughtfully introduced my daughter to raw oysters since she had never had them before & she loved them. After a delectable course of oysters, we dined on tomato & onion soup before moving on to a course of NY steak with mashed potatoes & mushrooms based on great suggestions from our premier server Marwa. She also suggested some fine wine to complement our meals. We both can't wait to return to this fine restaurant to experience the food, great atmosphere, fellow diners, & especially the superior service!!

The duck confict is very good & the onion soup was excellent. The meat of the hanger steak beef isn't soft, but the sauce is great. The dessert was delicious.

Food is good, but nothing to write home about. Service is very good, but they don't ask about any allergies. I got my food covered in cream (duck) & it did not say on the menu that it has cream. I had to wait while my other party was eating. Duck was great, tartare was lacking flavor & texture. Escargot were amazing. Bouillabase sauce was just ok, but the seafood was super fresh & made well.

Review of Pois Panache, Montreal I recently had the pleasure of dining at Pois Panache in Montreal, & I can confidently say it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I walked in, the ambiance set a warm & inviting tone, but the real stars of the evening were oyster Chef Julien & server Clément. Let's talk about the oysters. Oyster Chef Julien has truly elevated the oyster experience to new heights. The standout dish was the oysters topped with pomegranate, which were, without a doubt, some of the best I've ever had in my life. The freshness of the oysters perfectly complemented the burst of sweetness from the pomegranate, creating a delightful harmony of flavors that danced on my palate. Each bite was a testament to Julien's skill & passion for his craft. As for the service, Clément was exceptional. His attentiveness & genuine enthusiasm made the evening even more enjoyable. He was knowledgeable about the menu & offered excellent recommendations, ensuring we made the most of our dining experience. Clément's warm demeanor & professionalism added a personal touch that made us feel truly valued as guests. If you find yourself in Montreal, make sure to visit Pois Panache. With outstanding dishes crafted by Chef Julien & top-notch service from Clément, it's an experience you won't want to miss. I can't wait to return for another round of those incredible oysters! We had the best meal & the best service out of any place we visited in Montreal hands down. Our server Clément was exceptional. We were lucky to get a table on very short notice, the reso was for 5 but in didn't matter in the least. I had the Duck Confit & my wife had the Lamb. Both were exquisite. I highly recommend Le Pois Penche next time you are in Montreal.

Really happening place on a Thursday night. The interior is fun & has a very vibrant vibe. The live singer was fantastic, he sang lots of nostalgic classic oldies. Food was amazing!

Extremely limited vegetarian fare. Granted it's a French restaurant, they aren't known for veggie cuisine, but to charge that price for cauliflower soup( delicious), & then a baked cauliflower seems overly um, uninspired, like I'm an afterthought. The service was great, but slow. The coffee came cold. I never got the 2nd drink I ordered & the first drink took 35 minutes to get.

Remarkable food & wonderful staff! We started out just wanting oysters & a drink. But everything was so nice that we decided to stay for dinner. So glad we did. The Alberta lamb sirloin blew my mind! Amazing! My dinner companion felt the same about the duck. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for & then some. Perfect for a special occasion.

i had a wonderful dinner at le pois penche. was greeted warmly when i came in, the service was great & i loved chatting with the oyster specialist at the bar. the food was great high quality classic french, i had the delicious french onion soup & a buttery duck confit. you can tell the chef cares about what goes out! the crème brûlée was amazing, you can taste the high quality vanilla- it's fun to get the flambé with it as well. the ambiance is great, love the soft lighting & red velvet chairs!
